Cashing a check in anothers name?

I'm going to try to make a long story short. At the begining of the month the bank always takes out 350 dollars for a loan of my BF's. This month something flu bared the computer and they accidentally took out 3500..needless to say that depleted his account. The banks fixing it but because of the amount its going to be around 10 to 15 days. Well we have a 3 months old, I don't work and haven't worked since college we cant wait 15 days for money. Hes on parental leave and I have his government check here signed and addressed.Hes started his new job today but it entitles him to be gone for 5 days at time. Not realizing till 11 o'clock last night that he forgot to go and cash it so there was money here for me. My question is can I cash his government check? - I do NOT have access to his Bank Accounts - I do not have a bank account of my own ( dont ask, long story) - We live in Ontario Canada.

  1. You can deposit the check into his account for him, but if your name's not on the check or on the account, the bank won't give you any money for it. The only solution would have been for him to write you a check against his account. You probably could have deposited the government check into his account and then cashed the check that he wrote you -- but since you say he's gone now for five days, it's probably too late to do that. Don't either of you have parents you could borrow from until he gets back in town?
