my mothers house?

well......... my moms house is falling apart. First of all, the roof is completely useless anymore, who knows how old it is, all i know is it does not do it's job,no gutters. No insulation except for a few walls in the house which you can only see because of the holes in the walls. The bathroom... has 13 pots on the ground to catch the water dripping from the ceiling, along the window is black mold also around the shower and bathtub.the toilet seems like it could fall threw the floor if you sit on it.. mabye one day.a mushroom sprouted up on the floor one day.. I may mention there is actually no ceiling in the bathroom just the roof, with parts of insulation hanging from it. The basement has 2 feet of water in it from all this past rain, which covers the water tank and pilot light so she has no heat or hot water. is there any kind of OHIO government grant that could help her? she works but she does'nt make that much money and with this garnishment going on, she could never afford anythin and the basement is covered in black mold actually theres more problems that i cant even think of..electrical is out is one side of the house due to water leaking into the fuse box........... no insurance.......... :(

  1. Try contacting your city's housing authority, they usually have programs to help repair and make homes safe again, if finances are an issue. BE careful with the mold, dangerous stuff. Good Luck
  2. Get the government involved and your mom's house will be condemned. Not an option. It sould like the house is a total loss, and is dangerous to boot. I cannot see any option besides tearing it down and selling the property for the value of the land. Unless, of course, you can get the attention of the folks at "Extreme Home Makeover". Ty Pennington to the rescue.
  3. Go to the bank and see if you qualify for a home equity loan, You can use the money to do a total remodel of your choice. The local extension office may know of gov, grant and the HUD office may qualify your mom for a new home, There are lots of choices out there so don't give up on a dead end just keep digging, speaking of which, you may have to do some of the work yourself. Check with fema and the Human resource office(welfare)
  4. Sounds really bad. Burn the house down and claim the insurance.
  5. Contact the Community Action Agency in her county. They will steer you in the right direction. Ohio has at least one state re-hab program that I know of (CHiP), and I believe it's run out of the OHCP office (check the state web site). Her local Community Action Agency office will also be able to assist with her home heating bill and possibly a furnace, hot water heater, and insulation. The state web site also has the contact information for all the CAA's.
