Can a student loan be waived?

A recent business show on TV stated: if a student accepts employment with the Federal government upon graduation, his student loan can be waived. Is this correct?

  1. Ermm... You can get credit against a Perkins loan in a couple different ways, but think more like teaching in a low income area. But Stafford loans would make the bulk of your debt, not Perkins.
  2. I remember something like this, and as I recall it depended on what kind of loan it was and if they meet the other criteria... i think you had to be employed for several years before any benefits would kick in. Here is a book... look in the back about the different ways to get a student loan forgiven.
