combining philosophy and french...mayyybeee?
I'm currently in gr.12 and have decided to pursue a major in philosophy. However, I am also considering french and political science. Here are my current ideas: Major in philosophy, minor in french medial in philosophy and french medial in philosophy and political science Major in philosophy, minor in political science I want to become a lawyer, but I want to keep my options open (maybe a job in the CIA!, or a government job). I currently live in ontario, canada. What do you think would be the best preparation for postgrad? Do you think french is even worthwhile? What is university like first year (and other years) anyway? I heard it was brutal.....

- For eventually getting into law school check out: http://www.danpinello.com/LawSch.htm And yes philosophy is a good major. My observation from attending university is it is very common and perfectly natural to change your mind about your future career as you complete your undergrad studies. I did it and tons of people I know did it. So my advice is take whatever your heart tells you, leave what to major in as late as possible and at the end of your undergrad studies decide on your future direction and the road to get there. Understand however a generalist major like philosophy will not qualify you for anything in particular - if you do that you are almost certainly looking at further postgraduate study. It is however an excellent foundation for whatever you may wish to study later. I am doing a Masters in financial math at the moment and am taking a breather to do a graduate certificate in philosophy for that very reason. University in what you make of it, for some it may be brutal, for me it was fun. Your chances of doing well increases if you have done some college level study. So in your senior year enroll in some subjects at your local community college - it will give you valuable experience - and AP as well. Thanks Bill
