Social Security benefits for local government workers?
I emigrated here from the U.K. ten years ago. I worked in the private sector for two years, prior to moving into local government employment, where SS taxes are not stopped from my pay. If I remain in government employment, I am not going to accrue the 40 credits required for SS benefits upon retirement. Can someone please explain what SS benefits I will NOT be entitled to, and how government employees can overcome this? The SSA.gov website is not particularly helpful in explaining this, so anyone's personal knowledge would be appreciated
