How come my federal taxes are messed up?
Alright heres the deal im 17 live in michigan and i need to know how much federal taxes i have to pay because i got my W2 and my job has not been taking out like any money for federal taxes but alot for social security and state taxes. I claimed 1 on my taxes but they still should pay the majority of my taxes i dont make much either about 40-50 bucks every 2 weeks. My total wages were about 2,000 dollars this year and they only took like 30 dollars for federal taxes

- Nothing is "messed up." Your income is low enough that your tax liability is $0. You'll get that $30 back when you file.
- On your w-4 you should claim 0 exemptions because you're most likely a dependent of your parents. If your parents are claiming you here's what you owe: 0 tax liability. Even if they don't claim you (which they should for some tax mullah) you'd still owe nothing.
- Yes because you earn such a low weekly amount they take little or none out. That is normal, as I used to do the books for a community pool and some lifeguards or concession help earned so little the charts I used for deductions would show to take out 0 that week.
- Why do you say they're messed up? They'll take out 7.5% for social security and medicare - everybody pays that. They won't take out much of anything for federal income tax because you won't owe much of anything. If you only made around $2000 for the year, you don't owe any federal income tax, so you can get back the $30 they took out if you file a return.
