Is bankruptcy of the USA and most of the rest of us the last act of the failed Dumbya Coup?
The latest is President Bush's just-announced call for $145 billion in tax relief aimed at preventing a recession that is actually already here. The intent of the plan is simple: "Letting Americans keep more of their money should increase consumer spending," the president said. Bush said Congress should take steps to implement a stimulus plan as soon as possible. As you can see from the stock market's response, the plan suffers from being too little, too late. After years of turning a blind eye to economic imbalances that have thrown thousands of people out of their homes and jobs, Bush now offers the economic equivalent of a Band-Aid. But he's not alone. Members of Congress, presidential candidates and Fed governors have all made promises in the past two weeks to turn the federal piggy bank upside down to ward off the ill effects of a recession.

- The "last"??? No, we still have almost another year to go. Wait for a last minute "October Surprise"...
- GWB is just the biggest idiot in a long line. This isn't the final count, but it's a spike. Having said that, hold on, it's gonna suck for a bit.
- Wow, that was great, did you cut-and-paste it from the New York Times? Try using some real economic data next time.
- North American Union...and Transaltlantic Union in 2014
- most of the people I know are lower middle class or working poor not a single one of them has lost their job or their home due to anything bush did or did not do just because you keep repeating it does not make it true
- Could you imagine how things would be if he offered the same amount of tax relief dollars to America's middle class that he has spent on his stupid war? Under his proposed plan, will people spend the rebate on new purchases, or use it to pay their bills?
- you're right. we should triple taxes when things are tight. yeah, that will boost the economy!
- none of this would be happening now if he hadn't waged a pointless, unnecessary war to get revenge for his daddy. we are going bankrupt. he keeps spending money we don't have.
- yes and no. bankruptcy...in a confidence killing kind of way, yes. failure...when one considers their goal is to eliminate effective government and capitalize on existing fissures in the electorate; i would say they have been very effective.
- I'm not bankrupt. You should take personal responsibility for yourself. Those who lost their homes signed a contract and put themselves in that situation. Common sense dictates that if you can't afford something you don't buy it. That's not Bush's fault. Why is it Bush's fault when the economy dips, but not when we have record high Dow and NASDAQ. You can't have it both ways.
- Great question If a new president gets in whether Dem. or Rep. I hope he/she has the brains to turn the economy around-stop that ridiculous so-called war and stop trading with Mexico and China who are both corrupt and smarten up on the real issues of the country-taking care of our own!! Katrina is a blight on the face of America thanks to the mind numbing dis interest on the part of Bush! (and his co-horts) I am Canadian and I want the 2 countries to be at peace with each other-right now we have to get passports to get into the States-I think that is apalling after 100's of years The problem is too many criminals are being allowed into Canada and the U.S. Canada is worse for this! Our laws are terrible and wishy washy I give up sorry this is not an answer but a blog! Lol
- Thank god for armchair economists like you.
