Can the US government fire Police officers?

Can the US government see a police officer is not doing his job correctly and fire that officer? Or do the state and local governments decide that issue?

Public Comments

  1. They can initiate an internal affairs complaint against the officer with the officers agency. But the officers agency would have to do the firing....
  2. Unless they are a US government employee, no they cannot. It's ONLY open to whomever is running that department.
  3. Only the federal agents... Police fall under their jurisdiction.
  4. No, the US government can't do that. Just like a police officer can't fire a member of the US government.
