  1. It's not impossible, but usually native English speakers are preferred with a university degree. If you are fluent in English, have a degree and are decent looking it's worth a try. Appearance is everything here. These are good sites to search for ESL jobs: www.eslcafe.com www.pusanweb.com Good luck!
  2. There have been some recent reports that the Government may loosen up the standards for p'nay to come teach English. The reasons given are the numbers of Koreans that go to the Phils to study English, the difficulties many school have with Westerners (because of the expectation of a higher living standard), and the lower wage that Filipino workers are willing to accept. Anyway, I would apply. It is worth a shot.
  3. listen to the previous answers. but also remember that this month the korean government is implementing new requirements for foreign english teachers (criminal check, health check, drug check, interview w/ a korean consulate official in ur home country, etc.) to get a visa. i dont think that the govt has thought thru the added requirements and it could potentially turn off future esl teachers. so if they dont change it and the numbers of foreign esl teachers in hagwans, public schools and universities go down...what will they do? if they dont change the strictness of the requirements, possibly they could open up those opportunities to applicants from countries that speak english but arent recognized as a 'native english speaking country' such as the philippines. so i would say do it. if they turn u down...they turn u down. but u have to give it a try and put ur name in the hat.
  4. NO. It is not possible to teach on a Philiippine passport at the moment. E2 Visas for English teaching are only granted to passport holders from UK/Ireland/South Africa/NZ/Australia/USA/Canada. No others. Yes the government are considering changing the rules but it isn't happening anytime soon, until the new visa rule implementations are in place and working. My wife is Filipina, we couldn't even get her a tourist visa, even although I am an E2 visa holder. So I brought her to Korea on an F3 visa (accompanying spouse). Yes, she works, but it is illegal. She has as fluent English skills as me or anyone else. But she can't land a job teaching English legally.
