Local state/govt crackdowns not the answer???B.S.! I say they ARE the answer, how about you?

State immigration crackdown not answer 'What we would like to see is a comprehensive immigration reform' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: November 7, 2007 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2007 WorldNetDaily.com Crackdowns by state and local governments on illegal aliens won't solve the immigration problem in the United States, according to a spokeswoman for President Bush. "We can understand that they want to increase enforcement, and that's what the president called for in his comprehensive bill," Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino said. She was responding to a question from Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House. He asked: "Oklahoma's House Bill 1804, just passed and signed by the Democrat governor, has been described as 'the toughest state-level immigration reform bill in the nation' by Republican representative Randy Terrill. And my question: What does the White House think about this bill?" "What we would like to see is a comprehensive national immigration reform bill," she answered. "We think it is difficult for all 50 states and localities and jurisdictions and counties to have a cohesive immigration policy when everyone is doing their own laws." (Story continues below) The law, signed by Gov. Brad Henry, is intended to discourage illegal immigration. He deprives illegals of state identification and demands that all state and local agencies verify citizenship status before authorizing public funds be spent on benefits for them. The League of United Latin American Citizens offered its criticism, along with other immigration groups, saying setting such regulations is within the authority of the federal government, not the state. The legislation was passed by overwhelming majorities in the state Legislature, but Henry said "until the U.S. Congress enacts a comprehensive, national immigration policy, citizens will see little progress." House Speaker Lance Cargill, a Republican, said this law is important because it assures people that Oklahoma is upholding the law. "Our citizens deserve nothing less," he said. Officials estimate about 100,000 illegal immigrants live in Oklahoma, and could cost state taxpayers up to $200 million in benefits and other resources each year. The law requires verification of legal status in order to obtain public benefits, or in many cases jobs. It also limits state driver's licenses and ID cards to citizens and legal immigrations. In a second question, also related to immigration policy, Kinsolving asked: "Agence France Presse reports thousands of illegal aliens coming into the U.S. every year could include terrorist spies and those with communicable diseases, largely due to the under-staffing and low morale among Border Patrol agents, according to our GAO report. And my question: How does the White House believe the morale can be improved with such agents as Ramos and Compean still in prison – " "Wow, what is the question?" said Perino. " – for doing what they believed was defending the nation's borders?" Kinsolving finished. "The president has made a pledge and he is making good on it to double the number of Border Patrol agents that are working for the government. We are well on our way to making that happen. I think we have about 18,500 now; we're on our way to getting a full 20,000, and that should help because I know that they're overworked and they work very hard," Perino said. Former Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos are serving prison terms of 11 and 12 years for shooting at and wounding a drug smuggler who had brought one third of a ton of marijuana into the United States, but abandoned it and fled back into Mexico when confronted by the officers.

  1. If it were left up to the states there would be no illegal problem. Time to do like Oklahoma and run'em out.
  2. With our inept sellout Gov for illegals the States have my vote>Free Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos>They were no guilty for doing there jobs>
  3. Absolutely the best way. There would be no jobs left for illegals, and watch them run. It is ridiculous that the Gov has ignored the triumph of the OK crackdown. Make the US not attractive for illegals. Start from the inside. I'm going with the states.
  4. Currently they are the only game in town. Give us a better, enforcable program we know WILL be enforced, and passive barriers as well as other elements we know will vastly reduce inflow, and we can consider it. So far, this is all we have. And we can't afford the status quo.
  5. May not solve the problem but it's the Place to Start!!!! Vote your representatives out of office! They're not doing their jobs.
  6. I say it's tea party time - we don't need those creeps in Dc who are destroying my country!
  7. The League of United Latin American Citizens offered its criticism, along with other immigration groups, saying setting such regulations is within the authority of the federal government, not the state. Who cares what these dip shi** have to say? and why do we bother to print it? First of all this country was founded on the principal of Individual States rights. The founding fathers were very careful in that regard. The Federal Government was only to be a framework within which the States would operate. States have every right to enact legislation and enforce that legislation. They can enact any law that is not contrary to federal law. This nonsense that illegal immigration is only a federal problem and only the feds have the right to enforce the law is just plain ludicrous. You have to address the problem where it exists, which is in the local communities of the State.
  8. Every time I hear or read the rhetoric of pundits (political or otherwise) of illegal immigration which browbeats the American public into feeling ashamed of our voting preferences, I don't know whether I am angry or amused. Lulac, Casa de Maryland, et al are masters of insubstantial argumentation. Let's see... We, the American people, should feel badly because we are expressing our opinions through our State Representatives. Why are these merdivores squawking about American citizens exercising their God (however you view "God") given rights AS citizens?? We are not their freakin' puppets. And we will not give up this country without a fight.
  9. agree w' lonewolf
  10. There is no doubt that Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos were screwed over by the system...... neither a conservative nor a liberal should be faulted. As for Illegal Immigration in the USA I think that we would be better served as a society if we: 1) Go after the corporations/companies that entice the illegals to come over in the first place. Say, with fines of up to $10,000 per 'illegal' that is caught working or is verified to have worked in their name. (Remeber, these are the same corporations that are happily sending YOUR job to India or China! to save tens of millions of tax dollars that they no longer have to pay here in the USA!) 2) Encourage every single person that is in this country at this time 'illegally' to come forward, with no fear of being arrested or deported but to be willing to verify their identity and begin the process of becoming a citizen, while I'm no fan of fingerprinting to verify your ID, but short of the use of DNA (very bad idea) will likely be the simplest way to do this. 3) Find a fair fine amount that these 'new' citizens would then pay over say, five years, say $3000 (or roughly $1 per day over the five years). Yes, there are some that send money back home but if the whole point to do that is to get the rest of the family to America, logic says that most of that money will end up back here anyways. And contrary to what your average MinuteMan might tell ya, the illegals actually do pay taxes, maybe not income tax but everytime they buy something. 4) Get corporate money out of politics!!! How can we as Americans go around claiming to be a democracy when corporate money does more for their ends than 1.3 million of us little guys marching in DC at the same time! 5) Eliminate the NCLB law and keep corporations & religion completely out of schools to allow every American kid the ability to be educated enough to critically think his/her way through life! (Religion is for home and Sunday....NOT SCHOOL!)
  11. The problem is their view of Compressive Reform is AMNESTY
  12. there are racists on all sides but everybody like intermediaries are trying to keep everything cool before it comes to a boiling/fighting point. I think the real problem is the economy but that just my opinion. economy is going down the shithole and the people suffering are the bkue collar workers. tell your kids to stay in school and be the best or else they gonna have to compete for the same jobs that poor class people want.
  13. states, counties, cities CRACK DOWN AND SEND THEM HOME!!! I AM TIRED OF KISSING THE ASSES OF THE ILLEGALS THAT THINK WE OWE THEM ANYTHING. they are here illegally and we owe them nothing!!! in any other country in the world, if you are asked for a passport you had better come up with one on the spot! none of this crybaby bs will get you out of it. no papers you are in jail immediately!!!!!!!! why should we be different???
