where does your state stand on illegal immigration?

here in oklahoma they are starting to get tough on illegals and admitting that they have let illegals have goverment assitance. Frustrated with the federal government's response to illegal immigration, Oklahoma is poised to become the next state to pass a tough law targeting illegal immigrants and the businesses that employ them. A sweeping measure moving through the Legislature would deny welfare benefits, in-state college tuition rates and numerous state subsidies to those in the country illegally. It would also empower police to detain illegal immigrants and require businesses that do work for the state to prove that their employees are legally in the country. the leader of the Oklahoma effort said he was tired of waiting for Washington politicians to fix a problem that costs his state millions of dollars a year. "Illegal aliens will not come here if there are no jobs waiting for them. They will not come if there are no taxpayer subsidies. And they certainly won't come if they certainly won't come if they know they will be physically detained until they are deported," said the bill's author, Republican state Rep. Randy Terrill. "Oklahoma is obviously not the wealthiest state in the union. We can't afford to become a welfare state for the rest of the world." The legislation passed the Oklahoma House of Representatives 88-9 last month. about time ! http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/asection/la-na-oklahoma3apr03,1,109614.story TU MADRE you sound worried . and dont worry about my mom she wouldnt go there !

  1. We're trying to pass a similar legislation package here in PA, appropriately called "National Security Begins at Home". I don't think I need to remind anyone that Hazelton is still standing tall under America's REAL Mayor, Lou Barletta!
  2. Well, here they talk a lot about getting stricter laws passed but just the other day my wife had a social services appointment and she reported that she sat in the waiting area for about two hours and was the ONLY non-hispanic female during the entire waiting period, about 25 to 30 ladies she estimated. But, there has been a few laws passed that make it more difficult for illegals to get a drivers license or state issued I.D. cards. It also impacts all citizens who are trying to get the same documents. New regulations on what is acceptable as proof of citizenship, residency and proof of insurance are all part of this new legislation to combat illegal immigrants from getting state issued I.D.,s as easily as they were used to in the past. It hasnt stopped them from driving, and it sure hasnt given law enforcement officials the initiative to take any action , but thats what this state has done so far, I am working to get more done by our lawmakers and representatives this year.
  3. I am in California. Nuff said about that.... But last time Nunez tried to get a referendum through the legislature to support comprehensive immigration reform, the Republicans filibustered until he withdrew it, and Arnold's health plan which would give illegals health care until they make a traceable income of $60,000 per year (instead of the current $40,000 per year) is so unlikely to make it that he is trying to characterize moneys employers and hospitals would have to pay as "fees" rather than "taxes" to avoid the Republican minority 'veto' on funding and taxation issues. Also, Tom McClintock, our Lieutenant Governor is coming out strongly against illegal immigration (he always had) and I think Arnold will find a bit of a surprise in the next Governor race. Unfortunately this is more than 3 years off.
