Security Clearance for Past Marijuana Use?
Early on in college, I used pot 4-5 times. This was about 4 years ago now. I have stellar grades, great credit, and not so much as a parking ticket on my record. I'm applying for an intern job just for the summer with a federal agency that requires background checks and made me fill out the SF-86. It isn't the DOJ, DoD, CIA, or any agency thought to be dealing only with the national security. What are my odds here of getting the clearance? It's kind of late, so I'm hoping I get the interim (nothing else will turn up when they do the full investigation). Should I start looking for another job this summer? Thanks.

- No clue.
- They wouldn't know about your use of marijuana if you hadn't just told the world about it on Yahoo!.
- just keep that to yourself, pot cant be traced in your system after that amount of time.
- Most people with security clearances have tried marijuana before they applied for the clearance. The key is to tell them about it. They dont care as long as it was expirimental and isnt going to happen again. Also, if you dont tell them and they do find out, there goes your chance of getting a clearance. Honesty is the best policy when it comes to clearances. Good Luck
- A background check is only looking at who you say you are.. graduated from the h.s. u listed, attend/graduated from the college listed, they do pull up work records, so on and so forth... but if you were never charged with any type of possesion charge or anything than there should not be a problem, be honest with them though. More than likely most of the people there have experimented with a controlled substance, and they work there. Don't sweat it and just be honest... good luck..
- I am in the government world and have a clearance. Need to know something on EQIP did you say yes to using illegal drugs if yes, you won't even get an interim. If you answered no and have no climinal background and your credit is good you will get a clearance. Here is some very advice, don't be asking questions like this online, big brother. Find someone you trust to ask in person.
