Do federal and state (Texas) agencies check credit with job applications?
My bf has some glitches on his credit report, but wants to apply for a government job.

- Nearly ALL companies.. private AND public, do credit checks on potential new employees.
- Its going to have to be something bad. They usually check credit for fraud. Other reasons a company will look at is your risk. Example somebody that has 30 collection companies after them are less likely to steal from a company that has zero. Having a few lates shouldnt be a major issue. I have hired for many companies. Its not really your credit, its what we are looking for, patterns ect. I do mortgages when somebody comes and gets a mortgage I should ask, when was your bankruptcy? Not if they had one. It will be an issue, but probably not a major one.
- State agencies in Texas do NOT check credit reports. They do pre-hiring drug testing (all agencies) and criminal background investigations IF the potential employee is going to be in a field that requires same (e.g., handling money, state police, corrections, hospital worker, etc.).
