  1. they must be paying you underneath
  2. FICA/MC are payroll taxes, which indicates that you are being paid as an employee and you would receive a W-2 at year end. If no federal or state income tax is being withheld, that's not good. Unless you are making very, very little, they are supposed to withhold based on the W-4 you submitted when you started. Check with payroll. If they have you as 'exempt' change it pronto!
  3. FICA is another term for Social Security and Medicare taxes. Your income must be low enough that no income taxes are due based upon the number of withholding allowances you claimed.
  4. No, not the same at all. FICA stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act. FICA [also called payroll (or employment) tax] is imposed by the federal government on both employees and employers to fund Social Security and Medicare—federal programs that provide benefits for retirees, the disabled, and children of deceased workers. It is *not* the same as Federal and State Income tax withholding. You should have been asked to fill out a Form W-4. On the W-4 you would state how many deductions you are claiming and the employer would then calculate how much to withhold from your earnings. The amount withheld is then sent to the Federal and State governments in your name as advance payments on your eventual tax liability.
  5. fica is social security.you need the rest out also..........
  6. No, FICA is for social security and medicare, not income tax. If you are making enough that you expect to owe any income tax, check what you put on your W-4, and be sure they are using the number you put. If you have a payroll department, they should be able to explain it to you, otherwise talk to your boss. Either you are under the limit to have to pay tax, or you filled out your W-4 wrong, or they've done something wrong. If it's wrong, you need to get it corrected since otherwise you could have a huge tax bill when you file your return. If you filed "exempt" on your W-4, they wouldn't take out income tax, since by doing that you'd be saying you won't owe any tax.
  7. FICA is social security tax. What did you put on your W-4 (withholding form)? Better double check it.
