US Government Employment policy on Tattoos? I plan on working for the state department when I graduate college, and was wondering if anyone knew the US Government's official policy, if there is one, on having tattoos? Is it just common sense and cover them up?
Who here believes the US government actually WANTS illegals to overrun the country? Think about this: 1. Documents: Illegals have made a HUGE undergrown industry of the wholesale forgery of any and all US governmental documents. In this day and age, why don't documents such as Social Security cards have a hologram or other impossible-to-fake feature on them? The government has actually REFUSED to do this, saying that it would be too expensive. I guess 50 billion dollars for public assistance is cheaper? 2. The border: We all know about this. The government refuses to do anything to secure it. Tell me why it takes two hours to get through airport security in the name of 'national security', yet 12 MILLION illiterates can walk here? 3. Welfare: Seriously, how hard is it to simply check to see if an applicant is legit? If they can't speak english, do you honestly believe they are anything but illegal? Why are WIC forms printed in spanish??? 4. Employment: Why did Swift not get ONE RED CENT in fines or penalities for having EXCLUSIVELY illegal labor?
Overseas employment for US residents? An overseas company is going to employ me in their J/V company in Indonesia. I wish to know: 1) Once I have the contract, which dept should I apply and register for overseas employment? 2) Also which dept(s) I need to report so that they will grant the permission of my returning to US (I am freshly immigrated to USA but I already have my green card and SS), say, for holidays, etc? 3) I believe I have to pay the tax to US government from overseas, therefore what formalities? and how can I transmit my salary to my family legally?
Is the government lying to us about crime, unemployment and inflation? The federal government says that things are great but the people on the Internet say things are terrible. Who is right? The government says inflation is low by historical standards, but prices are rising like crazy. The government says that unemployment is only about 5% and that is near full employment because most of the people not working really do not want a job. But it is nearly impossible to find a good job. The government tells us we have very low crime closer to 1950s levels and everything is fine but parents are afraid to let their kids leave the house. What is the truth?
Holiday Pay for Employees of Federal Government Contractors? I am employed by a company that has a service contract with a US government agency. I do understand that in the private sector in general, to offer or not to offer holiday pay is completely up to the employer; is not mandated by law. But what about employment under a government contract? Is the McNamara-O'hara Service Contract Act applicable here? Can you point me to any authoritative resources one way or the other?
Unemployment survey by the US government? What questions does the US government ask (on the phone) when they are doing an employment survey to find out about the unemployment rate. A full list (or link) would be very helpful. Thanks!
Where did the US get the money to run the war? The 40s and 50s were the era of unprecedented economic growth in the US economy. The reason for this was because literally everyone gained full employment in the US during the second world war. The US military industry was running full steam in its effort to produce war machines for the war. However, where did the US government get the money to run the industry, order the machines and pay the workers? Where did the money come from?
Did you know that the unemployment figures that the US government uses are false? or at best misleading? Most of their info on unemployment is drawn from people receiving unemployment benefits in their states. Many people never QUALIFY for these benefits or as in Texas the former employer can actually BLOCK a person from receiving these benefits. Also if you do not find a job before the benefits run out, you are no longer considered unemployed - you are "no longer in the job market". Unemployment figures sited by conservatives are FALSE. Has anybody in Yahooland moved from the unemployed count to the false "no longer seeking employment" count? proud2b - sure McDonalds is hiring all day long. Many of the newly created jobs can not support a person. You may be able to find a job any time you like. But that does not apply to everybody. I know many people who who went many months being unemployed due to their age, medical conditions, background etc. All illegal (or unethical) but business has subtle ways to get around these laws if they choose to. I too am proud to be an American. I just believe we can do much better than we are currently doing. I don't know the correct unemployment figure is. The problem is neither does our government nor do they care. The unemployed don't tend to vote. proud2b - sorry but I am not a Democrat. I am not "leaking" info to get any Republicans booted. You have "assumed" my political affiliation - you know what they say about when you assume?! Those unemployment figures you stated are FALSE - they may be the best the government can come up with - but they are still FALSE. MaeWest - hi, great ID. No I am currently employed. Today is my day off but my employer is having a party & handing out bonus checks later today so I will be heading to work shortly. I am incensed at the method of information collection our government uses to collect unemployment figures. Since their data collecting method is extremely faulty, the percentages given can only be incorrect. Our government needs to do a better job & certain politicians need to get off their high horse quoting faulty data that makes them look good. fatboysdaddy - you will notice that I have chosen not to use the terms conservatives or liberals or Democrats or Republicans. Although different administrations have chosen to use different parameters & methods of data collection, any/all politicians are spreading bad data if they use the current unemployment figures. proud2be - I apoligize for MY assumption/misreading of your post. However now I see you have posted your 20 years experiance in an area that may make you less than open minded on this subject. I don't know for sure but is it a possiblity? Also anybody that assumes that an unethical company will not abuse any law is living with their heads in a cloud. I have worked for two such companies myself. Most of these companies know exactly how far they can push the law. How could a prospective employee possibly prove he/she was NOT hired due to their medical disability? They just never hear back from the interviewers. proud2be - on the subject of age discrimination. I personally seen three different pre-employment applications that required information that could easily be linked to age - ie years attending high school etc. One openly asked for age in a "voluntary" survey that was included with the job application. Don't tell me it doesn't happen - I have personally seen these forms. Luckily my employer believes in "diversity".
What are my options if I settle in the US if I travel there on a Student Visa? I'm planning to travel to the US later this year to study Engineering and assuming everything goes ok and I decide I want to settle there, what would be my options for doing so? Would, for example, I be able to get an employment based Green card if I was able to find a job? I've been looking on various US government websites and I'm struggling to make much sense of it all.
Federal employment opportunities for green card holders? How difficult is it for legal alien green card holders to gain employment in the US federal government? I plan to emmigrate to the USA with my American wife and have been searching for jobs. A lot of jobs state eligibility requirements such as "Applications will be accepted from United States citizens" or "Current Agency employees " Is there any route for green card holders?
Does anyone know of any resources for obtaining employment in Colombia? I am finding myself wanting to move to Colombia--live, work and whatnot. I am wondering if anyone knows of any resources in which an American could obtain employment in the agricultural / production sectors before packing up their bags and heading down there that doesn't involve the US government or the education system. Big thanks and rude/smartarse answers (that will inevitably come) are tolerated but it would be just that much better if someone could help me out. -JW
Improving the employment situation in the US? Right now world markets are looking for improvement in the US employment situation. I am thinking it would be a good idea if the US government allow unemployed people to hang onto their unemployment benefits for 6-12 months while taking a low paying job. I have heard there are a good number of low paid jobs available, but nobody wants them simply because it ends up costing more to go to work. Do you think this is a good idea? Obviously there would be a limit to how much someone can earn in total in a scheme such as this. I think falling unemployment numbers in the US will give the world a much needed confidence boost right now
Should the US Justice Department investigate the DNC & Howard Dean? Perhaps this is a great, living lesson in US Government -- should our "fair and balanced" Judicial System address the legitimacy of the DNC's selective employment of state primaries? Would the Dean and the DNC throw away all the Democratic votes from Michigan and Florida if their presumptive candidate hadn't lost those states? Good points! but.... 1. What about write-ins 2. A candidate not investing campaign resources into a state should not preclude the legitimacy of the people's voting. That's Obama's problem, not the little people's problem. Gamoonba -- OK, but shouldn't the party nevertheless remain beholden to the spirit of the Constitution?
If given a choice while living in the US, what benefits, if any, does US citizenship offer? I already am a US citizen. I already know citizenship allows one to hold certain public offices, as well as government employment. This may be little motivation, however, to many immigrants, especially illegal immigrants. Why then, would anyone be motivated in our current society to work to become a US citizen? ...so they can pay taxes? ...so they can be drafted, if necessary? In my opinion, non-US citizens have access to our public schools, our Emergency Rooms, our stores, etc. For all I know, they can even procure a driver's license and get officially married here. Meanwhile, the citizens pick up most of the bill...or suffer when public institutions close, like hospitals. And we justify this, because our fruit and vegetables cost less to pick? I think we have belittled the value of US citizenship, and made it irrelevant. And, now, I think we lack the resolve to restrict public services to non-citizens, or make them pay for it. And your thoughts are? What do I suggest? Well, I'm not a lawyer or politician. However, the solution should involve both penalties AND incentives. I think we ought to monitor companies for hiring illegal immigrants and levy stiff fines, much like the FEC monitors the financial industry. Business changes based on money...the fines need to be stiff enough as to create an incentive to hire higher paid citizens. Hospitals should not be required by law to see illegal anythings...if they do, they do so at their own financial cost. Things like that. We ought to make people want to become US citizens. Also, we should streamline that antiquated and expensive process. There is no reason it needs to be so complex, lengthy, and costly. I would rather have hard working, legal, tax-paying immigrants than folks streaming across our borders under the cover of darkness.

5 USC 3110- Government organizations and employees? I am trying to find policies to US Employment. I was given a position, but it was them withdrawn becuase I would indirectly be working under a relative. Currently, there are realitive working under one another in the same office, so there has to be exceptions to 5 USC 3110. Can anyone help me? Wartz: Yes, I have read that... but if they have made exceptions for someone else, there has to be and extension somewhere that says you can. Right? Unless they were violating policy.
What Is The Duration For Green Card Processing? I am a Green Card holder (through EB4, long-time employment with US Government abroad) I filed for my 2 children who are currently F-1 students . 1. How long does it take [filed in March 2008] before they can receive their Green Cards? 2. Where can I monitor the status of the applications? Thanks for responding in a responsible manner.
Why not use the senior citizens in government support jobs? In this "Depression" our government: (US) is afraid of the retirement costs of the "baby boomers" why not give the baby boomers preference in hiring as they have for disabled, hispanics, soldiers, two or more races, blacks etc? Do we really need or, want "preferences" i.e. Afirmative Action, Equal Oportunity Employment incentives anymore?

Who many college educated workers are interested in a government job ?? thank god not too much : take a look? , the government is having a terrible time recruiting employees. Only 16% of college-educated workers say that they are interested in a government job. Among those without a college degree, there is twice the level of interest. Among people currently employed, those with managerial or professional occupations show a low interest level of 17%. Among those who want work to be challenging and enjoyable, only 9% thought a government job qualified. And, interestingly, among those who say they want to make a contribution to society, 90% said that non-government work in the private sector, whether for profit or non-profit, is the way to go. Now, what this means is that the smart set avoids government. Government work might still be attractive to people with fewer economic opportunities, but they are entering it for reasons that are not ideological. And for that reason too, they are less loyal to the public sector and glad to bail out if something else comes available. Most people view this as a very bad trend. I would only say that it is a significant trend, especially considering that in the heyday of government central planning, government sought to attract the best and the brightest. Often it did. Now, one might argue that if government were doing what it should be doing, this would be a good thing. But if government is doing many bad things, it is certainly not a bad trend for it to experience a brain drain. It is always a tragedy to see smart and entrepreneurial men and women be attracted away from productive employment in the private sector toward a position of power in the public sector. It makes us poorer to have the talents drained away from wealth creation toward wealth destruction. As for the very few good people in politics — Ron Paul is the great exception that proves the rule — they are true public servants only insofar as they work to diminish government power rather than increase it. So long as government is large and overweening, we are better off with a public sector that cannot attract the best and brightest. They should stay put where they can continue to expand the range of goods and services offered within the market framework. It is the market that provides us the means necessary to improve our standard of living, and the tools we need to maintain some degree of independence from the state. We often rail against incompetence in government. But before we go too far with this language, we need to consider that competence in government may be a far worse fate. We don't need genuinely competent antitrust enforcers, drug and food regulators, tax collectors, money manipulators, labor-law interventionists, gun grabbers, and environmental police. As H.L. Mencken said, we should be thankful that we don't get all the government we pay for. To be sure, we are paying far more today for government than ever before. Consider the real annual growth rate of total government outlays by presidents. Under Nixon, it was 3%. Under Carter, it was 4.1%. Under Reagan, 2.6%. Under Bush's dad, 1.9%, a figuring owing to the cuts in military spending. Domestic spending soared. Under Clinton, whom we all denounced as a socialist, it was 1.5%, the lowest rate in the postwar period. And under the present Bush, who promised less government? The real annual growth rate of total government outlays has been 5%, which compares to Johnson-era spending. The old rationales for government growth may have been discredited in the public mind. But they are alive in Washington, among the special interest groups, and among the media.
Vote for the candidate who promises to expand powers? In the 2008 presidential elections, would you vote for candidates who want to expand the powers of the government? People are not informed and educated enough. The government knows what is best for us. It has all the resources to make informed decisions for us. The government should basically provide everything we need - from healthcare, education, employment, social security, economic growth etc. The USSR was based on such a model. The standard of living there was pretty high, although it collapsed due to the financial pressures of the arms race. Thus should you vote for a candidate who takes power from the common public and restores it to a centralised control for effective governance? And who would he/she be?
US Government Economics Exam? I took a US Economics Exam at the Tip O'Neill Federal building in Boston in 2003 and cannot remember the name of the exam, nor can I find any reference to it online. The exam was required for employment with an agency. Anyone know the exam I'm talking about? For the poster who's accusing me of having Alzheimer's disease (by the way you're hilarious, it runs in my family and it's sad), I was in college, applying to hundreds of jobs, signed up for this required exam about a week ahead of time, rolled out of bed and took the exam hungover. I got a 90 out of 100.
US and Canada, what is the truth? Is it really true that the USA is the reason why Canada's economy and employment rate is going down? The government said that the USA is dragging us (Canadians) down because of their economic problems. The USA is on a downward spiral to nowhere, and will drag us down with them. [Please rate this question so many people would answer this.] Thank you so very much for your time.
Are u the average american the media and US government talk about? I tend to notice ever time i'm either watching the news or hearing something about what congress is going to do to help the average american I start to wonder what average american are they talking about. based on so many factors i can't figure it out 1. Ever state tends to have different levels of unemployment / employment 2. incomes range so much it really depends on your profession 3. since our country has a vast population your either single, married, or some mixed ratio involving kids or no kids 4. Rent tends to vary from city to city, state to state I look forward to any answers you can come up with and i know i'm not one of the average americans i hear the media and government talk about
What is net salary for a US worker in Mexico? I need to send my compensation requirements to company in Baja, Mexico. I need to understand the Mexican and US tax rates. Initial findings have indicated that a US citizen on an FM3 visa would pay approximately 30% income tax to the Mexican government with no double taxation. As far as US goes, to qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion we would need to be out of the country for 330 days within a 12 month period (starting May 1, 2007). The plan is to be eligible for FEIE making the first $82k of the comp tax free. What would the net compensation be - including any California state tax liability - on $200k gross earnings? Please explain your formula as I need to clear $50k per year after expenses. Also, what advice would you have in terms of legally optimizing the opportunity here? Is there a particular compensation structure that we should be pursuing? Perhaps being contracted as a US consulting company vs. employment? Many thanks!
The government does NOT represent us any longer? At what point do we pull the Guns off the rack? G. Washington, J. Adams, B. Franklin knew when. They only paid a 3 % tax, and they were willing to die to change it. We pay 50 to 70 % of our pay for taxes. (income tax, employment tax, sales tax, utility tax, etc., etc.) Before we had these taxes we were the richest country in the world w/ 'Zero' debt. Now China buys most of our debt and owns 'lots' of America. Yes, it is true, we owed France at the end of the Revolution however we weren't the 13 united states of America at that time. That debt was being paid until France over threw their govt. When America had Constitutional $, we had virtually 'zero' inflation on wholesale prices. What cost a buck in 1780's cost about a buck in the 1920's. If you look at a 20 $ bill printed in the 1920's , it's a promisary note' that you can go to the treasury at get a $20 gold piece. Take that same promisary note to the Treasury today - and they virtaully say 'F U' and will only give u a worthless $20 bill of today. So much for the U.S.'s promise to pay. It makes Zero difference who u vote for (aside Dr. Ron Paul). The dems & reps refuse to do the will of the people. U know it, I know it, they know it. When I say 'represent us' - I mean they simply represent the U.N. and major corps - not America at all.
What will happen after the US economic recession? We're in an economic recession - high unemployment, increased cost of gas, government stimulus program, etc. I know the characteristics of being in a recession, but what happens after? I've read several CNN news articles, but none of them will provide me information about whats going to happen. Can someone explain ... (I know it's unsure what will exactly happen). Will employment rate go up? Will more people want to build and buy houses? Gas prices decrease?

How thorough of a background check will the US government conduct? I have to fill out the "Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions" for a job I've been hired for with the VA. It seems like they want to know an awful lot of information considering they have me starting in just over a week. I don't see how it's possible to verify this information in that short time frame. Will they actually investigate all of this? My employment history, my education, my criminal record, will they contact all of the references I'm including? I'm sure it won't be super in-depth like an actual security clearance, but if they're going to be calling all of my references, I'd like to let them know first. (and before anyone asks, I do not have a criminal record or anything. I'm just wondering)

What are the legal rights of somone who is color blind? Color blindness or color deficiancy are not considered disabilities by the US Government, yet can prevent you from getting certain jobs, everything from firefighter to mechanic. Isn't that discrimination? I found a case where a man sued a police department and won because even though color blindness is not a disability, they treated him as though he was disabled, but can that apply to any job? If my husband is trained as a firefighter in one state, and moves to another that requires him to have normal color vision, how can he fight that to get the job? And how is it legal for a self-proclaimed "equal opportunity employer with regards to affirmative action and disability employment" to reject you solely based on your ability to percieve as many colors as someone else?
Illegals facts on employment in the US!? UNEMPLOYMENT At the time of this writing there are over 7,500,000 unemployed Americans who are actively seeking jobs, many of which are taken by the more than 12,000,000 alliens currently in the United States. Our brilliant politicians have established a minimum wage of $5.15 and hour, which becomes approximately $50 a day with various government fees. Minimum wage jobs go to illegal immigrants who will do them for $2 a day. Is the problem really that Americans are lazy and don't want to work as defenders of illegal immigration say? The facts are: -Companies will have problems with the federal government if they pay less than minimum wage to citizens or legal immigrants. -The federal government does not actively enforce laws against hiring illegal immigrants for well under the minimum wage. -Illegal immigrants live in squalid conditions, often 4 or more to a room supported by churches and other organizations. If Americans worked for $2 a day they would be homeless. Are Americans not willing to take these jobs? Are Americans not willing to work for $2 a day? Are Americans not offered these jobs because of minimum wage? Minimum wage does not guarantee that Americans will have a minimum income when others work for less. It guarantees that millions of Americans will be unemployed. The federal government allows employers to violate immigration laws, tax laws, and minimum wage laws. Politicians, including George Bush, routinely refer to illegal immigrants taking "jobs that Americans don't want". American citizens collect garbage, clean out bed pans, and clean toilets. They used to work as cooks and dishwashers in restaurants. Politicians fail to explain exactly what jobs Americans don't want when the unemployment rate is over 5%. The fact is that an employer must pay minimum wage, and often other fees, when hiring a citizen or legal immigrant.
Does the Canada Employment Amount on Canadian tax returns apply to self-employed persons? It doesn't look like it, since you have to put the amount on the spaces which are designated for earnings with T4 slips , and other employment income. Yet further down, there's the little chart for the self-employed. Oops, it looks like the government forgot to include us! So they evaded the real question, and the answer is "No". It's not fair, is it? Self-employment, is after all, employment, and we should get that credit like every other employed person. The self-employed should raise a protest about this to our government. What about all the farmers and fishermen? The lose out too, don't they?

Does anyone know the TOTAL EMPLOYMENT in the US with the % PUBLIC and %PRIVATE sector? For example, the total US workforce in 2005 was _____. This breaks down ____% private sector, _____% Government (of some type). Even better would be "Government" broken down by Federal, Military, State, Local, etc. If I could find historical figures, that would be totally ideal! In this manner, I will be able to show employment trends and from where the jobs are coming. ---- I am NOT looking for an unemployment rate. Everyone knows what this is. I AM looking for something much deeper. That is the total number of employed by Public and Private sector. For Example (made up numbers)- 2007: 193,000,000 employed with 18.4% public sector, 3.8% military and 77.8% public sector. Something like that. Again, if anyone knows the source where I can find this data for other years, that's ideal
since the 1940s; which is TRUE about new US immigrants listed below in the majority of? a. As illegal and migratory workers have consistently been shown over time to contribute to the national economy, they are never a threat to city and urban life, the economy or governments b. As these groups are documented workers and have been shown to attend and complete US educational systems, they are welcomed by the US government as new immigrants c. As illegal aliens and legal heads of households bringing several family members over latin American borders annually (the majority of new immigrants), they are usually poor with large families and are an economic drain on local, state, and federal governments as this group; low income status requires them to seek social and health services they cannot pay for themselves (or are paid for by legal employment) d. New immigrants to the United States usually find good paying jobs in America as skilled laborers and professional (as most of the heads of households belong to an educated class) and with this comes health benefits.
Is the Labour government peddling a complete pack of lies about employment, inflation and housing ? It wouldn't be the first time Tony Blair and his loopy men told us complete falsehoods for their own purposes - the inflation figures of 2.4 % do not tally with money supply growth of 14% to August. Unemployment is nearer five million than whatever rubbish they are fabricating this time and housing figures are compiled by groups of people (ie building societies, banks, estate agents and politically pressured state sources) who have a vested interest in keeping the housing boom going. Meanwhile the replacement to 'bankrupcies' the IVA or Individual Voluntary Arrangements have mushroomed from 2,000 in 2002 to 40,000 in 2006. Are we being systematically lied to by the Labour government ??? The main problem emerging for the UK is the growing levels of unemployment and concealed unemployment. The jobless totals have been rising for the last two years. The number officially out of work stands at 1.68 million. If you factor in most of the people on disability benefit who would like a job and could do one, and those on other benefits like single parent benefit who would also like to find employment, we discover that there are a staggering 5 million people in the UK without jobs. The Chancellor himself believes that many of those on disability and single parent benefit should find jobs, and has developed elaborate programmes to bring this about. He is proving, yet again, that government programmes cannot overcome deeper seated obstacles to job creation in a modern economy. http://www.competitivechallenge.com/index.php/archives/policy-group-interim-report/#more-48 Also reference the Financial Times - 17 th Oct for IVA statistics. and Reuters for the increases in M4 money supply 13.8% increase to August
What are the requirements for spousal employment insurance benefits in Canada? My spouse and I currently work at the same facitilty, which is likely to be closed down within the next year. We are starting to look for work elsewhere (currently we live in a very remote northern town) and I am wondering if one of us finds a job somewhere else, what is required for the spouse to be able to get EI benefitis? The government website I checked out does not answer that question, but I know that there are programs out there so that the unemployed spouse may get benefits and relocate to where the employed spouse is. Does anyone have any experience with this?
How effeminate is the EU- now they want us to do what? "Brussels - Men must take on more household chores for their pay differential over women to disappear, the European Union's employment chief said on Wednesday in an appeal to all males in the bloc. The European Commission said in a report that women in the 27-nation EU earned 15 percent less than men, measured by gross hourly wages, against 17 percent in 1995, showing little progress on indirect sexual discrimination in the job market." A better solution- bloody run our economies properly and stop wasting money on government spending (especially immigrant welfare and bullshite EU bureaucracy and travel junkets) raising inflation and allow us to survive without the NECESSITY of dual incomes? Your thoughts? Typical Frankish limp-wristed socialism? KD- is my supper ready yet?
"No work list" - Electronic Employment Verification System (EEVS)? "What is the "no work list"? Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (S.1348) require every employer in the United States to verify the employment eligibility of their workforce of both US citizens and immigrants through a new Electronic Employment Verification System (EEVS) operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) This is colloquially referred to as the "no work list", as you would not be allowed to work if the EEVS deems you ineligible to work in the US." http://pressesc.com/01180347549_no_work_list I've just recently found out about the EEVS. All government powers are being centralized to the DHS. We are going to be a full blown Fascist country by 2009-2010. How many Americans do not know about the EEVS? "This is only to ensure that those working are legally able to work in this country. This would include citizens, people with work visas, or permanent legal residents of the United States (those who have legally immigrated to this country but are not citizens). What you fail to notice is that this type of system is already allowed under law but never enforced. Why do we have the IRS or SSA? To ensure that everyone working in this country is legally here. " Exactly, so why centralize power to the DHS and spend 400,000,000 creating a system that can be potentially abused and exploited? If you haven't noticed *all* government responsibility is going to the DHS. This completely undermines our current government's structure. Something like this can be used to permantly squash dissent. A simple Yes or No from the DHS will prevent an American from working. What if an American wants to leave the U.S.? He can't without the DHS approval since they also have a "No Fly List". "It is nothing more than a political ploy. The politicians in Washington want to show that they are "serious" about illegal immigration. The new immigration bill contains nothing that is not already law in this country. What we need is to enforce the current laws with regards to illegal immigration." I agree that the current laws need be enforced, but that isn't what is happening. Instead, new laws are being created that undermine freedom. Another bit of information about government power being centralized to the DHS is National Continuity Policy incase a national disaster happens. A DHS council is made that makes the Congress obsolete until the national disaster is declared over. The policy practically grants dictator powers. Congress or the media aren't even challenging the National Continuity Policy, which was signed May 9th. Does anyone know the hiring criteria for a data entry job at the US Post Office? I've passed the typing test and the civil service exam with flying colors, my eligibility status is "Exceptionally High" according to my test results, but now I have to do the interview. I don't do drugs, but I have a retail theft charge from about 7 years ago when I was young and dumb. I've had a steady job and school for 6 almost 7 years now, too. Now, they go out of their way to say "We understand adults have had problems in the past, certainly this does not bar you from consideration" but I'm wondering what my actual chances are with a high 80's test score and great typing test result? Do they scrutinize one indiscretion to the point of denying employment? I mean we are talking about the government here. Any answer from someone with experience with this (either you or someone you know) would be greatly appreciated.
What is the one thing you HATE the most about Malaysia? Something different for a change. We have been singing Malaysia’s praises all long. Let me start the ball running & quote you a few examples: 1. State controlled media - publishing only what the government wants us to know. Look at our newspapers controlled by political parties, printing permits controlled by government. 2. Racial discrimination - the long suffering Chinese & Indians. Quotas imposed in universities, scholarships, public sector employment, just to name but a few. 3. Reckless Malaysian drivers - Self explanatory :-). Why then do we have Ops “this” & “that” during festive season? And any reduction in road accidents? 4. Bahasa Melayu - at the expenses of English. Now that the goverment has woken up to the importance of English, isn’t this a bit too late? No enough suitably qaulified English teachers. These are the 4 items that I can think of, for now. What’s yours?
What will US citizens experience if the US reaches financial instability and becomes bankrupt? It seems like the warning are getting louder and more frequent, and they're coming from those in position to understand the nature of the problem http://tinyurl.com/ysrqpt . If the federal government becomes backrupt, what will life here be like? Will we experience violence and social upheavals like those in third world countries? What about employment, living conditions, quality of life, and other normal mundane things we take for granted? What will happen to our monetary system? What solutions are being explored to mitigate this problem? What steps can I take to protect myself and my family?
Do you think that there is a such discrimination in the United Arab Emirates? The US Equal Employment Opportunity commission (EEOC) was established by the title VII of the civil rights act of 1964 and began operating on July 1965. EEOC enforces the principal federal statutes prohibiting employment discrimination*. The US Federal laws prohibiting the following job discrimination: - employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin -protects men and women who perform substantially equal work in the same establishment from sex-based wage discrimination. protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older. - -prohibit employment discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities in the private sector, and in state and local governments; - prohibit discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities who work in the federal government. The U.A.E constitution stated that; Equality and social justice and the provision of security and equal opportunities for all citizens is the pillars of society. Do you think that there is a such discrimination in the United Arab Emirates? And if there is... What is the best solution to avoid such discrimination? Awaiting your comments. Should the British Government bring back National Service to solve its Youth problem? The rising problem of Youth crime does not seem to be getting better with ABSOs etc. One solution could be that every youth who is not in full-time employment or full-time education should undertake some sort of national or community service; similar to the programme in Germany so that they can start to learn a trade or give some service to those who are in need within the community. This way there would be more awareness and appreciation of others around us and, possibly, less crime.
I am on EAD-F1 VISA in US working for a company. I was falsely arrested by a police officer. Can I sue him? Can I file a civil law suit against the Cop or the County Government for false imprisonment and arrest without warrant? I an not a US citizen but on I am on Employment Authorization Card. My main questions was that people who are on VISA do not have right to sue against government officials ? or they do? Yes, there was no crime committed and then there are some false statements in the police report which can be proven wrong with physical eveidence that I have.
ESL employment for filipinas in South Korea? Hello...can anyone pls advice me if its possible to land a teaching job in Korea if one is a Philippine passport holder? Is there a chance for the government to issue working visas for us? thanks...
How To Help The Poor Mexican National? **his future is bleak, due to forces from their own country and ours which conspire to keep them in poverty forever * **5% of his/her entire country's economy is plagued by severe corruption which profits a few elite rich Mexicans and criminals such as drug cartels, many in government positions * **that's a whole lot of corruption * **in order to maintain that corruption which profits a powerful few, yet ruins the Mexican economy and leads to massive unemployment, the steam valve must be vented, and more than a quarter of the entire working class is actively encouraged by the Mexican government to find employment in the US...27% of his/her entire country's working class is gone, soley due to corruption's deleterious effect on the Mexican economy. Repatriation exceeds oil profits (16% of GDP) and is one quarter the US trade deficit. * **in the US these workers are met with open arms by US corporations who can deduct their salaries yet never pay taxes on the on their behalf, nor do the workers, who are underpaid accordingly. The boon for corporations is enormous, as well to the workers because they pay no taxes so they "send home" about as much as a regular US worker but far more than they could earn in Mexico. The worker uses tax-payer paid infrastructure and never pays for it. The corporations may lay off US workers who cost them more, cutting them off from benefits (Tyson). The corporations and illegal workers function within the infrastructure paid for by other taxpayers, benefitting them both. The impetus for corporations to bribe and lobby for an illegal work force is enormous. The "Z-Visa" had required illegals to only pay $500 every four years total in taxes, only $125 per year, renewable forever, what a bargain (for them and the corporations). * **in the US these illegals are greeted by politicians, bribed by US corporations and the Mexican elite and government, politicans who salivate over them becoming a new voting class The politicians mount an effective campaign to rip off US citizens to the tune of tens of trillions of dollars to maintain their own corruption and make the US tax payer pay for it all. Despite the endemic problems of incorporating 20 million non-English speaking workers (who would bring their families, so likely figures are 100 million), such as crime, health care crises, educational system overuse, crowding, effects on employment for US citizens, the inequity for others seeking citizenship legally...despite all, politicians launch a counterattack upon Americans, falsesly accusing them of bigotry (for shame!) for standing up to the changes foisted upon them. * **Back in Old Mexico, the majority of Mexicans stew in poverty. Bribed US politicians continue to send "financial assistance" to those already corrupt and enriched by their corruption. * The only solution for the vast majority of Mexico is to disallow salary deduction from business expensing for non-tax-paying workers, to send back Mexican workers who will pressure the government for change, and assist the Mexican government to mend its ways or financial aid will be terminated. (Harvard School of Economics figures)
Have YOU Ever Immigrated Outside the US? I would like to hear about the experiences of Americans who immigrated (legally or otherwise) to another country. I am aware of a large number of American citizens who immigrate illegally to Europe and Asia where they gain employment as hostesses, bar staff or English teachers. I also know an even larger number of Americans who immigrated legally to foreign countries. I am ONLY interested in hearing about the experiences of Americans who have immigrated. If you can't understand this concept, please don't answer the question. As a legal immigrant in Italy, I didn't receive a lot of support. There was no one-stop immigration office- instead I had to visit about six or seven different places. I paid my taxes as required and registered my offical address with the local police station. I was eligible for free Italian lessons funded by the regional government. I faced a lot of prejudice because many people believed English girls were "easy". What were your experiences?
Civilian Employment with Dept of the Navy? I am seeking a civilian IT job with US dept of the navy. Hopefully at US Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. Is it more than likely that I will be required to get a security clearance if I don't already have one? What if I was once turned down for the interim clearance due to having been in a therapy, and I left my employer (a private contractor in the federal gov) while my investigation was going on for a secret clearance. If by any chance, the navy considers me for clearance, I would have to tell what I did, but with a legitimate reason about having given up on going for secret clearance. Can something like that be an issue with civilian employment in the navy or any other federal government branch? Is it better that I limit myself to local government or private sector? I am currently an IT person in local government, and just that fact probably would mean that I can work in the navy if they decide to trust me with a clearance. I am kind of weary of this need for clearance in the federal government. Is getting clearance such a big obstacle? Is anyone else discourage to pursue federal employment due their issue with getting clearance?
Europe and the US compared? Some people compare the US to Europe on issues like nationalized health care, social programs, employment issues, etc., and generally say the European system is "better" in their opinion. Many of these countries also have compulsory military service, while few in the US (and even fewer of those who support universal health care, etc.) support a draft, much less compulsory service. Should expanded "benefits" from government also come at the cost of higher taxes AND required military service to the country?
Are illegals Immigrant take jobs from US citizen or US citizen are to lazy to work? Are illegals Immigrant take jobs from US citizen or US citizen are to lazy to work? on hard working demanding job? please dont judge me before you read attached article? where are our hard workig people? 'Guest worker' plan assailed GOP legislators rip idea to open office in Mexico STORY TOOLS Email this story | Print MORE STORIES 'Guest worker' plan assailed Ritter gives it right back to GOP critics of union stance Help wanted in Colorado — from Mexico Idea sounds 'real good' to Brighton farm family By April M. Washington, Rocky Mountain News August 25, 2007 Republican lawmakers Friday assailed a bipartisan proposal to open a recruitment office in Mexico to attract seasonal workers, saying it risks making Colorado a magnet for illegal immigrants. "This is sending the wrong message," said Republican Sen. Greg Brophy, a farmer from the Eastern Plains. "We need to be more creative than just opening up a state-sponsored employment office in Juarez. That's throwing in the towel and saying, 'Come on in.' " Rep. Marsha Looper, R-Calhan, and Sen. Abel Tapia, D-Pueblo, are floating a plan to recruit seasonal legal workers in Mexico to help Colorado farmers who are struggling to find help to bring in crops. The legislators initially called it a "guest worker" program, but only the federal government can grant visas to foreign workers. The proposal is intended only to help expedite existing visa programs, not create a new one, as some critics have said. The plan is preliminary, and talks just have gotten under way about introducing legislation in January. Senate Republicans called the proposal an attempt by Democrats to backslide from recent legislative efforts to stem the flow of illegal immigrants. "Unless the state is prepared to spend tens of millions of dollars to keep tabs on guest workers to make sure they don't overstay their visas, then this is a bad idea," said Sen. Josh Penry, R-Fruita. In truth, the proposal came from a Republican. Looper, a GOP House freshman, approached Tapia about co-sponsoring a bill. Looper could not be reached for comment Friday, but said earlier she urged her GOP colleagues to put aside partisan politics and do what's best for Colorado's agricultural market. Looper has been pressured this week by fellow Republicans to back away from the proposal. Rep. Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch, credited Looper for thinking outside the box, but argues that state-sponsored recruitment of migrant workers only would foster illegal immigration and further weaken attempts to secure the nation's southern border. "This goes a step too far," he said. "Sometimes you got to beat people back into the box. She has some high hurdles to get through before she gets to the border." Tapia defended the measure Friday as a creative and sound idea. He said neither he nor Looper is trying to lure undocumented workers or create a pathway to citizenship. Tapia and Looper have said that the state's crackdown on illegal immigration has caused migrant workers to bypass Colorado, leaving farmers short-handed. "We only want to expedite the current system," Tapia said. Looper and Tapia are hoping an office in Mexico can help Colorado farmers draw migrant workers through an existing federal visa program called "H-2A." That program has no cap on visa numbers, as some other visas do. However, employers must first find the specific foreign employees they want to hire, then have them approved by the U.S. Department of Labor. The state of Colorado and employers also would have to provide housing and transportation for migrant workers. washingtonam@RockyMoun tainNews.com or 303-954-5086 So what will be the solution? we know employer wont pay more, (illegal immigrant is the solution what you think?) or are you willing to pay more for your products?
What think of this plan to deal with Illegal Aliens? Us Americans? http://www.odom2008.com/Issues Under Immigration - to long to post here http://www.odom2008.com For a working Class President http://www.youtube.com/odom2008dotc... Border Security and Immigration Action Plan The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. We must secure our nation, because it makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left wide open and unlocked. Together, we the people must secure the future of the United States of America . It’s time for some common sense "Calling a illegal alien and undocumented immigrant is like calling a drug dealer a undocumented pharmacist." Securing the Border and Enforcing the Law: A fundamental responsibility of the federal government is to protect its citizens. Secure the borders that make it a nation in the first place and a nation must enforce its laws to remain a civilized nation. First of all, this problem is easy to be solved, and will be the first issue I address on day one of my Presidency, without excuses or politics of any kind. Guaranteed. 1) Zero tolerance for Illegal immigration nationwide. 2) No Amnesty: There will be no offer of any path to legal status for any illegal aliens. Amnesty undermines U.S. law and policy, rewards bad behavior, and is unfair to the millions of immigrants who follow the law and are awaiting legal entry into the United States. 3) I will stand behind our border agents. The two border agents currently wrongly imprisoned will be pardoned immediately. I will give our border agents access to whatever they need to make their job possible and keep our borders secure. 4) We are going to do something that every civilization has done since the dawn of time: Secure its borders! a) We will secure the whole border with a sense of urgency and setup temporary check points along the whole border every mile, and man them with National Guards troops with these rules of engagement and defend our border by any means necessary. b) Borders agents will help with patrols and man the points of entry with same rules of engagement. Protect American Borders. They will be backed up by more National Guards troops. National Guards will have final say on all areas. c) We will use any means of surveillance to provide air-tight borders until the fence is build on a rapid deployment plan. 5) Attrition and Enforcement: Reduce the number of illegal aliens through increased enforcement against unauthorized alien workers and their employers. Without illegal employment opportunities available, fewer illegal aliens will attempt to enter the country, and many of those illegally in the country now likely will return home. Self-deportation can also be maximized by cutting off all services to illegal aliens(no bank accounts,no social services,no ID's etc..), stepping up the enforcement at all levels from landlords to local law enforcement. Attrition through enforcement is a more reasonable and achievable solution, but this approach requires additional steps and airtight border security: As part of a common sense policy: I will ask all illegal aliens to leave in a National address. "To all Illegal immigrants, Illegal aliens, undocumented immigrants and visa over riders: Thanks for visiting America. Now it is time for you to leave. You are urged to return to your home country. You have 30 days from today to leave America. If you leave within the 30 days, you will have the ability, like any other, to apply for a visa or other methods of legal entry to the United States. If you do not leave on your own, accordingly with in the allotted time frame, i.e. 30 days, you will be put into a national database, preventing you from ever applying for legal status. It will be the mission of all American law enforcement, from local law enforcement to the federal level, to check immigration status of anyone for any reason, and deport all Illegal immigrants by any means necessary with no possibility of ever returning to the United States, even for a visit. I hope this clears up any misconception. There will be no more deaths of Americans because of Illegal immigration. There will be no more nonsense like "Illegal aliens have the right to be here", no Law suits etc.. American civil rights are for American citizens. Again, you have the right to leave and if you don’t leave within the 30 day period, your name will be put into a national database, you will face deportation and will be denied re-entry on any basics. That is the only form of Amnesty you will get from this administration." Triple the number of ICE agents handling interior enforcement. Move some of the border patrols agents to interior enforcement and any corruption at this level will be dealt harshly. It is time to end Sanctuary Cities by cutting off all federal funds to any community that offers Sanctuary to illegal aliens. Whenever possible I will prosecute those who put the policy in place. Relentless Prosecution and convict members of criminal alien gangs, such as MS-13 and affiliated gangs. Start Prosecuting employers who hire illegal aliens. Implement and expedite the real ID system and Employment verification system. It will be the responsibility of Employers to verify that they only hiring workers with proper documentation and that they are properly verified, no excuses. Sign executive order requiring the Social Security Administration to provide relevant information to immigration and law enforcement. Social Security Administration, DMV and INS have to share their information with each other to enusre no one falls through the cracks. These offices will be working with the same database. Make English the official language of the United States to promote assimilation and legal immigrants' success, and require English proficiency in order for any foreign person to be granted lawful permanent resident status. Eliminate Anchor babies, wet foot dry foot, chain migration and a end to NAFTA. This policy will result in a safer, more secure America for us, our children and our children’s children. Less crime and Gangs Less American deaths due to Illegal alien related crimes This will prevent any further rift in our nation on this issue, which should have been a common sense problem in the first place, not a political hot button. This will allow us to focus on Education and Health Care as big issue’s, since they are more complex problems. No KKK here, sorry to disappoint you, just a concerned American. Once again this NOT a race issue. But your you want it to be. Notice that there not one single reference to any race in this whole plan "Illegal aliens... Just another topic that the Presidential campaign creates to stray from the real issues in America" Real issue is security so we can focus on: This will allow us to focus on Education and Health Care as big issue’s, since they are more complex problems
A strange Way to Promote Freedom? debt, death and disaster? L.Rockwell Many people around the world, actually most people, have been convinced for some time that the US is being run by a power-mad lunatic. The video of the Saddam killing, which crystallized the extent to which extremist Shiites have taken over the country, has galvanized millions and confirmed the worst suspicions about what is going on in Iraq. How can anyone doubt it when the pre-occupation president is lynched by an angry mob shouting "Go to Hell" along with the name Muqtada al-Sadr, the radical cleric? Theocracy in Iraq, here we come, courtesy of US taxpayers. The US enabled not freedom but a coup by crazies. Every stated ambition of the US has been turned on its head. Instead of democracy, Iraq gets military domination prior to Islamic dictatorship. Instead of punishing and thereby discouraging terrorism, the Iraq calamity has radicalized a generation. Instead of bringing peace and freedom, the US has brought instability, bloodshed, and unending upheaval. Even if you believe that Bush was only pursuing a personal vendetta against Saddam, the US has managed to do what would have been unthinkable five years ago: made Saddam a folk hero for those looking for martyrdom in the jihad. Whereas many in the Islamic world once loathed his secularism, Bush's bumbling show trial and lynching have turned Saddam into an icon. Among those undecided about Bush's war, his speech on the evening of his "surge" of 20,000 more troops probably solidified their opinion. Consider his statement toward the end: In the long run, the most realistic way to protect the American people is to provide a hopeful alternative to the hateful ideology of the enemy – by advancing liberty across a troubled region. It is in the interests of the United States to stand with the brave men and women who are risking their lives to claim their freedom and help them as they work to raise up just and hopeful societies across the Middle East. In general, it sounds fine, more or less. So how precisely does Bush plan to advance this "liberty"? Why, by continued military occupation, threats, violence, martial law, and death, this time without caution or wincing. In earlier operations, Iraqi and American forces cleared many neighborhoods of terrorists and insurgents – but when our forces moved on to other targets, the killers returned. This time, we will have the force levels we need to hold the areas that have been cleared. In earlier operations, political and sectarian interference prevented Iraqi and American forces from going into neighborhoods that are home to those fueling the sectarian violence. This time, Iraqi and American forces will have a green light to enter these neighborhoods... He treats the problem in Iraq as if it were akin to pest control. Mow down the opposition and, mutatis mutandis, once and for all the opposition is gone. All who remain will be lovers of Bush-style freedom, which seems eerily like the freedom that we've been told that Saddam once guaranteed. That is to say, so long as you agree with those in charge, you are left alone (unless a mistake occurs). But if you object, your only choice is to kill or be killed. Apparently there is nothing force cannot accomplish. No one can be shocked that Bush has chosen the path of more force, even to the absurd lengths that he took it during his speech equating obedience with freedom. This is the path he set out on after 9-11 – an unrelated event which he again dragged into the Iraq equation – and the path he has stayed on ever since. He knows no other way. Teaching Bush about subtleties such as diplomacy and trade is like telling a box turtle to write a novel. It is just not part of his intellectual equipment. Bush knows how to order people to bomb things, so order he does. And yet the whole history of the world teaches that force has its limits, though you can always count on one great ruler in every age to ignore that lesson. Growing up, we were taught to sneer at Soviet leaders and third-world despots who believed that force alone could shape their world. Now we see our own US president fall prey to that delusion, not only in politics but also in economics. The day of the speech, an email sent to Republican leaders showed up in my inbox. It goes into more detail about Bush's plan, which has nothing to do with existing reality. But someone at the White House typed this, and there are probably a few who even believe it. Particularly intriguing are the sections on economics. For those who understand the failure of socialism and other centrally planned government projects, the memo is a very bad joke. But it does reveal the extent of the hubris of the White House. According to the Bush plan, Iraq is being told to "deliver economic resources and provide essential services to all areas and communities." Well, such a plan has been tried before, in places such as Russia and today in Venezuela. Thank goodness the US government doesn’t try this at home. You know exactly what you would get if the government attempted to provide all resources and services. The whole country would look like a military base, public school, post office, and urban housing project rolled into one. If that's not enough, Iraq is also being told to "capitalize and execute jobs-producing programs," "match U.S. efforts to create jobs with longer term sustainable Iraqi programs," and "focus more economic effort on relatively secure areas as a magnet for employment and growth." Oh and the US will "help" through "greater integration of economic strategy with military effort." At what point will the Bush administration wake up and realize that its effort is unworkable, that the costs are ghastly, that the best strategy is quick exit, three years ago? Well, the truth is that many people do realize this. The problem is that there is a huge machine running full speed and it is benefiting too many people. Tens of billions, hundreds of billions, are landing in the pockets of well-connected elites, and they want to keep the party going as long as possible. For those who are disgusted and demoralized by this administration's failure to think and act rationally, consider that the history books have already been written. Bush is wildly unpopular here and abroad. There is not a living soul who is willing to call the Iraq war a success. At the end of the day, all that he will leave is debt, death, and disaster. This is indisputable.
how do I work with government facilities? I got custody of my children. 7 years later after I was married to my 2nd wife my children were adopted by her. My ex-wife never did pay child support and never was asked to by child support enforcement. One of my children started rebelling and started running away. To keep her safe and off the streets I put this minor in foster care. I always provided for all my children and I also provided health insurance. At this time the best insurance is through my wife's employment. Foster care told us we needed to provide child support and we paid it A.S.A.P. 2 weeks later they garnished my wages and made me provide insurance through my work place. For this month I am paying double child support and double insurance for my child in foster care. This is taking away from my 4 children at the house. Can anyone help me?
Why do Democrats and Republicans ignore strengthening employee rights? All they talk about is strengthening the economy without going into specifics. Making money is not easy but most protections are just an illusion. The At-Will Employment Doctrine has striped all legal protections of ordinary US citizens and yet the only ones not scared are Republican Ron Paul with Democrats Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At-will , http://jobsearchtech.about.com/od/laborlaws/l/aa092402.htm http://jobsearchtech.about.com/od/laborlaws/l/aa092402_2.htm ALSO The US Constitutional amendments hardly apply to the US Private Sector and that is why many wealthy people want to privatize the US Public Sector, moreover, the regulations in the Private Sector are more lax thus is why the White House wants private and NOT the US Government Printing Office or GPO for contracts. All points-of-view are encouraged! I wrote about the US GPO as an example how the US Private Sector has laxed rules except when making money. The US Public Sector has more safe guard to ensure VERIFIABLE documentation and facts. Is immigration out of control? Anthony Browne says Britain is already overcrowded, and that pro-immigration arguments are almost all flawed. Something strange is happening when a left-wing government publicly accuses the BBC, riddled with institutionalised political correctness, -of can you think of a more wounding insult?- a “Powellite anti-immigration agenda”. The Pope publicly denouncing one of his cardinals as a Satanist would hardly be more surprising. It is not just cats of the postwar fractured Left scratching each other's eyes out; David Blunkett s intemperate outburst was in reality an admission that he is losing the most important political argument of the day. It is not only that Britain doesn’t want mass immigration but that, despite the government's attempts to persuade us that we need it, even parts of the BBC are finally waking up to see that there are real problems. If it s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, it must be Heathrow The fact that the BBC found the courage to reflect the concerns of its licence-fee payers is a clear sign that the tide has turned in the immigration debate. The presenter of the programme, John Ware, declared in the Daily Mail that the BBC could no longer sew up its lips on the issue, and that anyone with an open mind has to face up to it. Unfortunately for the government, more and more people on both the Left and the Right are becoming open-minded on the problems of the government's policy of actively encouraging mass immigration. The pro-immigrationists trusty tactic of suppressing all inconvenient truth and debate by denouncing all critics as racist, fascist or xenophobic just isn’t working: there are too many intellectually honest people who can see that baseless insults aren’t answers to real problems. The subject of immigration has been taboo in Britain since Enoch Powell s infamous speech a third of a century ago: there has not, until a few months ago, been one debate in Parliament about the optimal types and scale of immigration, only debates on the minutiae of immigration laws. Everyone agreed to that silence so as to promote good community relations. But the government took advantage of the taboo to overturn 30 years of policy which aimed for zero primary immigration, claiming that it wants about 150,000 immigrants a year. Labour, in its self-righteous arrogance, performed this remarkable U-turn confident that no one would break the taboo. When I started writing in the Times about the economic and demographic consequences of mass immigration, Blunkett denounced me by name in Parliament as bordering on fascism. I was contacted by Sir Andrew Green, the former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, who had just set up a lobby-group, Migration Watch UK, to curb immigration, and wrote a profile of his new group. Ever since, Blunkett has been denouncing it as “right-wing” and “tin-pot”, despite the fact that its advisory council consists of former ambassadors, former heads of the government's immigration service, several professors, a Sri Lankan law lecturer and a Sudanese businessman. The trouble for the government is that while promoting mass immigration might make people feel cosmopolitan and modern, and calling critics racist may make people feel virtuous, few of the consequences of mass immigration have been thought through. The long immigration silence has meant that all negative consequences of migration have been suppressed, and only the positive aspects talked about. If you blind yourself to all negative consequences of a complex policy, you are bound to conclude that it is a thoroughly good thing and want as much of it as possible. Civil servants sat with ministers discussing all the good things about immigration without anyone daring to think any of the bad things, and they concluded that the borders should be pushed wide open. This state of immigration denial has led the government to develop an ostrich attitude to many of the damaging consequences of its open-border policy, where it ―and the left-wing media normally including the BBC― are psychologically almost incapable of being intellectually honest. It was only after the continued, hysterical screaming of most of the tabloid media that the government and other pro-immigrationists conceded there might be a problem with widespread abuse of the asylum system. Likewise, the government refused to accept that mass immigration from disease-prone countries brings in diseases until a piece I wrote for this magazine caused a storm of protest (and the usual smearing), and the government was provoked into reviewing the need for immigrant health tests. But there are many other issues that the government still refuses to face up to: 1. Mass immigration hugely exacerbates the housing crisis. When Migration Watch produced a report last week saying that levels of immigration would require 1.8 million extra homes by 2021, the government threw insults, said the figures were plucked out of thin air and refused to produce its own forecasts. In fact, Migration Watch simply used the government's own housing methodology, and the Housebuilders Federation says immigration is a leading driver in the demand for new housing. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, responsible for housing, is taking away the rights of communities to refuse to have housing imposed on them, and yet refuses to admit that there is any connection between immigration and housing demand. The amount of housing needed is so vast that it will be impossible for the government to build its way out of this crisis. Like importing an HIV epidemic from Africa, this is an issue that won t go away. 2. Britain is already overcrowded: it is one of the most densely populated islands in the world; twice as densely populated as France and eight times as densely populated as America ―and increasing population density damages quality of life. Already, we can t find space for new airports, roads, prisons and asylum centres. It is not just millions of new houses, but the new infrastructure of roads, hospitals, schools, water supplies and other utilities. Our public transport system is ridiculously overstretched and roads are excessively congested. The government has embarked on a programme of population growth through immigration that will push the population up from 60 million to 66 million by 2031 but it refuses even to talk about the consequences of this. 3. Mass immigration -as opposed to limited immigration of skilled workers to meet shortages- damages the employment prospects of those already here, particularly the unskilled. The Home Office commissioned an economic study on the impact of immigration, which found that an increase in immigration amounting to 1 per cent of the non-immigrant population would lead to an increase of 0.18 percentage points in the non-immigrant unemployment rate. However, in an extraordinary act of politically correct immigration denial, the immigration minister Beverley Hughes issued a press release saying, ‘The research shows that it is simply not true that migrants “take the jobs” of the existing work force’. However, London, where most immigrants come, has become the unemployment black spot of Britain, with 7 per cent joblessness, higher than any region of the UK. There is such a large pool of cheap labour that, for the first time ever, national chains such as McDonald s and Burger King are no longer paying their highest rates in central London. Shop shelf-fillers now earn 10 per cent less in London than the average for the rest of the country. The world s leading expert on the economics of migration, Professor George Borjas of Harvard University, complains that everyone is happy to accept that increasing labour supply reduces wages in all circumstances except when it comes to immigration, when they enter denial. 4. Imposing mass immigration on a society that doesn’t want it damages relations between the communities that are already here. If people are opposed to the immigration policy, they are likely to be opposed to the people it brings in and will often confuse immigrants with those born here. The old wisdom that a firm but fair immigration policy is essential for good race relations has been forgotten by the government. Refusing to address legitimate concerns forces voters into the hands of extremist parties such as the British National party. 5. Mass immigration increases inequality in society by increasing the wealth of those who employ immigrants (who tend already to be rich) and reducing that of those who compete with them (who tend to be poor). The US government has estimated that half the rise in income inequality in the US is due to mass immigration. 6. Mass immigration is no solution to an ageing society, because immigrants grow old at just the same pace as non-immigrants. One of the country's top pension experts, Professor David Miles, said that trying to solve the pension crisis by importing more people is “madness”. 7. Mass migration of unskilled workers promotes low-skilled, low-wage industries and reduces economic productivity. Alan Greenspan told the Senate earlier this year that labour shortages in the US in the last century, when immigration was very low, forced companies to innovate and was the main reason why productivity in the US overtook that of Europe. Importing unskilled labour did nothing to save the textile mills of the north of England, and this disastrous policy has left behind impoverished, bitterly divided communities. 8. Much if not most of the supposedly temporary migration such as student visas, holiday working visas and seasonal agricultural workers is permanent because the dream of life in the West is so powerful for so many from the poor parts of the world. The government has no controls to ensure that those it invites in actually leave. 9. White flight is ghettoising Britain’s cities and fragmenting communities. A totally unpublicised report commissioned by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister last year found that white flight was now a leading cause of internal migration in the UK. In London as a whole, white Britons account for just 60 per cent of the population, and for fewer than half the population in six London boroughs. Mass immigration from the Third World to the cities exacerbates white flight, but the government refuses to face up to the consequences. Professor Robert Putnam, author of the celebrated Bowling Alone, which is about the decline of community spirit in the US, has found that the more ethnically diverse a population, the less sense of community there is. The government may not face up to these issues, but an increasing number of people are doing so. Bob Rowthorn, the left-wing professor of economics at Cambridge, dismisses all the economic arguments and opposes mass immigration on the grounds that all people have a right to decide their culture; Geoff Dench of the left-wing Institute of Community Studies in London's East End opposes mass immigration because of the welfare loss to the white working class, and because it is so damaging to race relations; Professor Lord Layard, the designer of Labour s welfare-to-work programme, has warned of the damaging impact on the unskilled; Ruth Lea, the head of policy at the Institute of Directors, has called on government to reduce immigration ―she insists businesses must look beyond the short-term profits of cheap labour, and look at the long-term social and economic consequences. As the taboo about immigration is broken, more people are becoming more open-minded about it. The government will eventually be forced to face reality and to curb its addiction to mass immigration. It is just a question of how much pain it puts the country through and how much it sacrifices the working classes and race relations before it does so.
Could this really happen? Let's presume that ALL manufacturing jobs were farmed out to other countries. Could the US economy sustain itself on what remains? If so, how. Why Is Fox News Sitting On This Story? Subject: US Congress Votes to Outsource Presidency Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2007 22:05:51 -0400 US Congress Votes to Outsource Presidency Washington, DC (AP) -- Congress today announced that the office of the President of the United States of America will be outsourced to India as of November 1, 2007. The move is being made in order to save the President's $500,000 yearly salary, and also a record $521 trillion in deficit expenditures and related overhead the office has incurred during the last 5 years. "We believe this is a wise move financially. The cost savings should be significant," stated Congressman Thomas Reynolds (R-WA). "We cannot expect to remain competitive on the world stage with the current level of cash outlay," Reynolds noted. Mr. Bush was informed by e-mail this morning of his layoff. Preparations for the job move have been underway for some time, and he will have at his disposal the full range of relocation services the Federal Government has to offer. Gurvinder Singh of Indus Teleservices, Mumbai, India will be assuming the office of President as of November 1, 2007. Mr. Singh was born in the United States while his Indian parents were vacationing at Niagara Falls, thus making him eligible for the position. He will receive a salary of $320 (USD) a month but with no health coverage or other benefits. It is believed that Mr. Singh will be able to handle his job responsibilities without a support staff. Due to the time difference between the US and India, he will be working primarily at night, when few offices of the US Government will be open. "Working nights will allow me to keep my day job at the Dell Computer call center," stated Mr. Singh in an exclusive interview. "I am excited about this position. I always hoped I would be President of the U.S.A.” Congressional spokesperson noted that while Mr. Singh may not be fully aware of all the issues involved in the office of President, this should not be a problem as President Bush was not familiar with the issues either. Mr. Singh will rely upon a script algorithm that will enable him to respond effectively to most topics of concern. Using these canned responses, he can address common concerns without having to understand the underlying issue at all. "We know these scripting tools work," stated the spokesperson. "President Bush has used them successfully for years." When asked if Mr. Singh would use the hidden ear plug and radio receiver Mr. Bush used in one of the 2004 televised debates in order to be prompted during more spontaneous question and answer situations, the spokesperson said simply, “You all saw how well that one worked. Absolutely not.” Bush will receive health coverage, expenses, and salary until his final day of employment. Following a two week waiting period, he will be eligible for $140 a week unemployment for 13 weeks. Unfortunately he will not be eligible for Medicaid, as his unemployment benefits will exceed the allowed limit. Mr. Bush has been provided the outplacement services of Manpower, Inc. to help him write a resume and prepare for his upcoming job transition. According to Manpower, Mr. Bush may have difficulties in securing a new position due to limited practical or successful work experience. A Greeter position at Wal-Mart was suggested due to Bush's extensive experience shaking hands. But it is believed he would require laser surgery to remove the smirk. “Wal-Mart can’t afford to have a greeter whose expression basically conveys the sense that he can’t believe these shoppers are actually buying his cheap, plastic, made-in-China junk.” Azawalli and julia j: no, I did not write this myself. It came in an email from a friend about 2 hours ago (so email away, Cheryl M), Jenniferjohnson says it's from The Onion. I can believe it -- sounds just like The Onion. However, I failed to locate it after several search variations. Falconblud, I trust your concern is about the "outsourcing" aspect of the send-up. But your concern that some folks take anything on line as gospel is admirable and, alas, warranted. Jimmy J -- sorry you've already heard the joke. I'm glad Alias Smith & Jones still find this tired old joke funny. I sure did. Spurred on by jenniferjohnson and a strike out at the website of The Onion, I went to Google to see if I could find the original source and author. There are over 100 Google entries for this particular story. The earliest I found was dated 12/1/05. I found one in Spanish dated 6/22/05. And: I found an early version of the story right here on Yahoo Computer Message Boards posted by rumjal on 5/13/05. What's really interesting is the number of variations on this story. You can see that, like many urban folk legends, this story grows and morphs in the hands of the folks who receive it and then pass it on. One can imagine how the legends of Davy Crockett and Billy The Kid came about. In any case, both the original author and some of his/her invisible editors have done a fine job of clever, intelligent writing. My thanks to all.
Please help my 83 years old father! What shall we do? My father, Simeon Ibayan Borja from the Philippines worked under American Contract from 1945 to 1948. He gave all his original documents to his friend Domingo Vargas (deceased) and a special power of attorney to Mr Domingo Vargs's son Jesus Vargas to process his SS refund claims from the US government because they (The Vargas) are residing in America. Since the time (15 years ago) he gave all his documents, they (The Vargas) avoided them to communicate with my father despite our efforts to contact them. The details of Mr Simeon Borja's Employment: First employment - MV Dulot Repair Ship From December 8, 1945 to December 1946. Second employment - LST 916 Vessel From 1947-1948 Thank You.
Should this be allowed to happen? Outsourcing the Presidency Congress today announced that the office of President of the United States of America will be outsourced to India as of September 22, 2006. The move is being made to save the President's $400,000 yearly salary, and also a record $521 billion in deficit expenditures and related overhead the office has incurred during the last 5years. "We believe this is a wise move financially. The cost savings should be significant," stated Congressman Thomas Reynolds(R-WA). Reynolds, with the aid of the Government Accounting Office, has studied outsourcing of American jobs extensively. "We cannot expect to remain competitive on the world stage with the current level of cash outlay," Reynolds noted. Mr. Bush was informed by email this morning of his termination. Preparations for the job move have been underway for sometime. Gurvinder Singh of Indus Teleservices, Mumbai, India, will be assuming the office of President as of 22 September 2006 . Using the scanned responses, he can address common concerns without having to understand the underlying issues at all. "We know these scripting tools work," stated the spokesperson. "President Bush has used them successfully for years." Mr. Singh may have problems with the Texas drawl, but lately Bush has abandoned the "down home" persona in his effort to appear intelligent and on top of the Katrina situation. Bush will receive health coverage, expenses, and salary until his final day of employment. Following a two week waiting period, he will be eligible for $240 a week unemployment compensation for 13 weeks. Unfortunately he will not be eligible for Medicaid, as his unemployment benefits will exceed the allowed limit. Mr. Bush has been provided the outplacement services of Manpower, Inc. to help him write a résumé and prepare for his upcoming job transition. According to Manpower, Mr. Bush may have difficulties in securing a new position due to limited practical work experience. A Greeter position at Wal-Mart was suggested due to Bush's extensive experience shaking hands and his phony smile. Another possibility is Bush's re-enlistment in the Texas Air National Guard. His prior records are conspicuously vague but should he choose this option, he would likely be stationed in Waco, TX for a month, before being sent to Iraq, a country he has visited. "I've been there, I know all about Iraq," stated Mr. Bush, who gained invaluable knowledge of the country in a visit to the Baghdad Airport's terminal and gift shop. Sources in Baghdad and Falluja say Mr. Bush would receive a warm reception from local Iraqis. They have asked to be provided with details of his arrival so that they might arrange an appropriate welcome.
Old rationales for government growth (discredited) and terrible time of recruiting employeess : GOOD¡? If you say that government is too big and truly overweening, you elicit a surprising degree of agreement among people, even mainstream columnists, economists, and nearly everyone. Even government employees, who famously resent their bosses, might be quick to agree. If you hang outside the offices of the IRS in Washington, D.C., in the park at noontime where its employees take their lunch, you will get an earful of vitriol against the bureaucracy such as you wouldn't hear outside 1990s militia circles. Incidentally, the government is having a terrible time recruiting employees. I would like to identify the main ones. Rationale Number One: The Good Samaritan State. In this view of government, the state should act like the third person to come upon the poor man who had been beaten and robbed. They imagine a population that is divided among three types of people: victims, victimizers, and those who refuse to help. The victim classes we know all too well, because the litany is said again and again within the structure of labor law: the elderly, the very young, ethnic and racial minorities, religious minorities, sexual minorities, the physically and mentally disabled, workers, the underpaid, people in rural areas, those who deal with urban overcrowding, people who breathe dirty air or eat chemically produced products, artists, the manufacturing industry, people with peanut allergies, the dyslexic, short people, fat people, the leisure deprived, and I've probably left out a hundred or so other groups. Among the victimizers, we similarly have a list: capitalists, racial and ethnic majorities, sexual majorities, the overpaid, managers and CEOs, people who live in gated communities, the well armed, consumers of cell phones, owners of mines, anyone living off a trust fund, fully abled men, and anyone who resents social managers telling them what to do. In the view of those who advocate the Samaritan State, these two classes of victims and victimizers are constantly at war. There is nothing but conflict between them. The loss of one is the gain of the other. These categories are fixed and unchanging. The lack of harmony of interests is built into the structure of the social and economic world. The remedy requires an institution that is relentlessly engaged in reweighing the power relationships between the two groups. The conflict cannot be finally ended, but justice requires that the victims are given an unending stream of compensation and that the victimizers are treated with disdain and punished for their very existence. Social justice thus requires that victimizers are reduced, disabled, denounced, and spat upon, while the victims must be exalted, fed, clothed, funded, and made whole. This is how the Left, broadly speaking, thinks the world works, and should work. It doesn't matter whether one considers oneself a hard Marxist or a soft social democrat, the intellectual tie that binds them together is the view that conflict and not cooperation characterizes the work of society in the absence of an institution dedicated to bringing about social justice. The institutional answer is, of course, the state. The state is the Samaritan who lifts up and exalts the meek, and smites the proud and powerful who would otherwise walk right past the poor person on the street, who is the very archetype of the victim in the leftist view of how the world works. But there are many things wrong with this view of society. In the parable, the victim was beaten and robbed. He was exploited only in a very narrow and old-fashioned sense: his person and property were violated. These are crimes against libertarian ethics, a system of thought that mirrors what every religious and ethical system has taught: do not kill and do not steal. In other words, he was not a victim of some hazy notion of Social Injustice. He was not discriminated against, exploited by an employer, made to work long hours, or denied a comfy living in his old age. There is a huge difference between being beaten and robbed, and having to pay high prices for prescription drugs. The great error of the Left is its inability to distinguish the injustice of violence from the supposed injustice of inequality of material condition. As for the Samaritan, he was not acting as an agent of the regime. He used his own money to help the victim. He got him back on his feet and paid his bills at the private clinic where he was deposited for care. The Samaritan did not rob someone else to give money to the man on the street. He presumably got his money justly by hard work and investment. He had no desire to keep the man dependent, nor to exercise power over him, tax him, regulate him, nor send him to war. The state is something very different. It has no income but that which it robs from someone else. It seeks its own gain at others' expense. It protects itself and promotes itself before the interests of everyone else. It is beholden to special interests who create and control its regulatory apparatus. It is not impartial. It sides with its friends over its enemies. Moreover, the state is an exploiter, a murderer, a violator of human rights. The typical response of the Left is to say that they want a state that does only good things such as share and care, and not bad things such as steal and kill. But this cannot be. We might as well wish for a lion that only purrs and cuddles, or a rattlesnake that only provides percussion accompaniment to mariachi music. The very nature of the state is that it exists only through and for compulsion. To imagine otherwise is not to face reality. Rationale Number Two: The Solomonic State. In the Bible we are told that King Solomon had "understanding exceeding much and largeness of heart, even as the sand that [is] on the sea shore." And his "wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt." He was "wiser than all men" and "his fame was in all nations round about." He spoke "three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five." He "spake of trees, from the cedar tree that [is] in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom." Now, I'm not here to dispute the Bible's account of Solomon's wisdom. But let us also recall that Solomon's rule later became close to tyrannical. His son Rehoboam inherited his power, and when the people begged for relief from Solomon's "heavy yoke," and instigated a full-scale crackdown: "My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions." To be wise and prudent is not characteristics of rulers. In fact, it is very dangerous to hope that they may be. If we set out to find such a person, and have fantastic power available to him when we believe he has arrived, we have set up the framework for tyranny. The founders knew that no man can be trusted with power. They attempted to construct a system that presumed that men were corruptible, and that there would be some means to dislodge them when their corruption showed. Still, today many people long for the Solomonic State as a means of dispensing justice. Unlike the Samaritan model, the goal here is not charity but the just wielding of the sword on behalf of the right and true. Thus should we seek out righteous men of learning and moral character who know what evil is and have the courage to stand up to it and destroy it. This model is what inspires this mentality. There are many problems with this model. One man might be very wise, even the wisest of all men. But as F.A. Hayek might remind us, all the accumulated knowledge in the head of one person is still infinitesimal as compared with the wisdom that emerges through social cooperation on the marketplace. We can consider the price of any good on the market as it stands right now, and know that this one price results from the accumulated decisions of millions of people across thousands and thousands of sectors of economic activity spread throughout the world. The knowledge is dispersed in a million directions and results from small decisions and actions by economic actors. But the result is a single indicator that assists in allocating resources better than any single mind could ever do. The model of the Solomonic State also imagines that somehow the social order we see around us cannot possibly have come about without a single will operating in society, some firm hand that has designed the order and keeps it running smoothly. People who think this way imagine that in the absence of this firm hand, there would be nothing but a Hobbesian state of nature, where society is a war of all against all and life is nasty, brutish, and short. Our age is notably lacking in the likes of Solomon, and so those who fear the Hobbesian state of nature turn to the managerial state to act wisely in the interest of justice and order, at home and abroad. They might not always like what the rulers do, but they consider the alternative to despotism more fearsome. They warn about the dread results of anarchism and liberty, where people senselessly kill and rob without consequence. They fear this liberty more than they fear the abuses of power. This, I submit, is the mentality of many conservatives and many on the Right. We see it in the affections they have for Bush, the Patriot Act, the war on terror, and how quickly people fall for any leader who uses Manichean rhetoric in defense of the latest nationalistic crusade. What these people need more than anything else is a familiarity with the insights of the old liberal tradition as represented by Jefferson, Bastiat, Mises, Hayek, and Rothbard. They need to come to see how order is not the mother of liberty but its daughter. They need to see how society is harmonious not because of the state but because of the prevalence of human cooperation in the marketplace, where people work to trade to their own mutual betterment. People who fail to understand this become the unwitting servants of tyranny, particularly in the modern age when it is so obviously not wise but stupid and violent and presumptuous. They imagine that the state can posses godlike powers and bring justice and order, but they end up only empowering the worst elements in society, bringing injustice, and chaos. Now, you might say that the old liberal view of society is naïve. It might be in people's interest to learn to trade rather than steal but we live in a fallen world. If not for some overarching controlling force, people would loot each other unrelentingly and kill for fun. Now, to this I can say that it is true that some societies have not learned to make trading and peace significantly more prevalent than violence and killing. History is strewn with examples. The question we have to ask ourselves is whether a society that fails to learn the art of civilization will erect and sustain a state that will impose civilization on the people. I submit that history also teaches that when a people are brutal and uncivilized, the state is even more so. The state is rarely and maybe never better than the people it rules; in fact, it is almost always worse. Rationale Number Three: Log-Rolling. Given these two very different conceptions of the state, one favoring the welfare state and the other favoring a warfare state, why don't the visions cancel each other out? So intense is the desire of one group to have the state that it wants that it is willing to put up with another group's desire for its conception of the state. The two conceptions decide to cooperate and erect a state that purports to behave both like Solomon and like the Samaritan. That is the origin of the guns-and-butter state, or the welfare-warfare state, or the modern state as we know it, one that purports to meet every need. We see how this log-rolling works every day on Capitol Hill. One group wants more money for tanks and weaponry, and the other wants more for Medicaid and education. If both agree that politics is the art of compromise, they will put up with the other group's priorities in order that their own vision can be fulfilled. On the Right, we find that the love for the police power is more intense than the hatred of redistribution. On the Left, we find that the love of redistribution is more intense than the hatred of war and leviathan. They therefore work together to erect a massive and ever-growing executive. They are similarly unwilling to oppose the state in total. They fear that in doing so, the state as an institution will be discredited, and their conception of what the state should do along with it. Neither side particularly loves big government but both sides agree that it is better than the alternative of letting people alone. So they log-roll to support the public sector above all else, even when it means that they must sleep with their ostensible political enemies. Rationale Number Four: The Inflationary State. Now we come to the reason this system is able to perpetuate itself. And there is something of a mystery to explain here. No people anywhere will put up with a leviathan that grows and grows forever. At some point, the problem of funding state expansion will result in too much violence against property, and the people will revolt. Indeed, if the federal government had to collect all its revenue through a tax of any kind, leveled right now against the public, I submit to you that it would spark a tax revolt on a scale never before seen in modern history. Thus do we have the central bank to create money for the state. Thus do we have paper money that can be created in unlimited quantities. Thus do we have deposit insurance to make banks failure proof, so that the masses will never doubt that the credit pyramid is immortal. Thus do we have the Fed's power to manipulate interest rates and control the flow of credit to the system. An economist at Lehman Brothers sent us an interesting chart the other day. It compares the level of price increases across many Fed regimes. Under the first Fed governor Charles Hamlin, the dollar declined 8% in value. Under Thomas B. McCabe from the late forties, it declined 7.2%. Under Arthur Burns, wholly owned by Nixon, the dollar declined 42% in value. Under Volcker, Mr. Tight Money, it fell 40%. And under Greenspan, who has a reputation as a great inflation fighter, the value of the dollar in terms of goods and services fell fully 44%! Inflation serves the cause of the state by giving it room to run up debts without limit and fund its activities without making the people cough up more revenue. Indeed, that is the primary purpose of the inflationary state. People often say to me that a gold standard is impractical. In fact, that is not the case. It is very practical. It is the free-market answer. The state doesn't need to produce money any more than it needs to produce shoes or shirts or clocks. The problem is that we lack the political will to stop the inflation monster. Rationale Number Five: The Propaganda State. In every society control of educational institutions increases in tandem with the rise of the state. This is because the state needs these institutions to inculcate the civic religion of loving the public enterprise, and also because the less people know about the idea of liberty the more the state is provided the room to grow. Consider the Department of Education. Ever since its creation, every Republican administration has come to power with an intention to abolish it. But once they get in power, they find that bureaucracy has its uses. Instead of cutting or abolishing it, they increase the agency and give it more to do. The more the state does, the more the state sees the need to control public opinion by controlling the schools. Now, there is a point of optimism here. If any state could rule without propaganda, it would surely do so. Why then do states find educational control and the propagation of the civic religion in their interest? Because at some level, every state, in all times and places, is required to seek the tacit consent of those it governs. No state can control a society by use of the sword only and alone. It must also seek some degree of ideological conformity with its own goals. Otherwise its rule becomes threatened and destabilized. The other side of the coin is that states can indeed be destabilized by the ultimate counterrevolutionary tactic of providing alternative sources of education. As Mises said, all of history is a battle of ideas. Where the ideas of freedom are triumphant, liberty prevails. Where the ideas of freedom are buried and suppressed, despotism prevails. More from Lew: $25 Our pathway is clear. It is a choice of the Mises Institute not to mix in the mire of a political system that is wholly owned or attempt to seek favor from influential opinion makers. Our path is one of education, pursued with high-minded ideals, advanced using the most modern methods, and animated by the spirit of guerilla warfare. There are Misesians and Rothbardians strewn throughout the academic world, financial and banking houses, law firms, and in every walk of life, not only in this country but all over the world. We have worked for nearly a quarter of a century on a very radical project of advancing economic science and logic. We have pushed to keep the fire of freedom burning brightly. We have sought to teach anyone and everyone about the workings and benefits of liberty. We have come under pressure from left, right, and center. Yet the attention given to this body of ideas grows by the day. We can prevail against the Propaganda State. So long as we are free to do so and have the means available, we will continue to do so. This is our weapon against power. It is the most effective weapon anyone could ever possess. If we win this victory, we win all others. We thank you for supporting education for liberty, for supporting the Mises Institute financially and morally, and for being part of the revolutionary vanguard that sees through the errors of our day and imagines a brighter future of freedom, private property, and peace. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lew Rockwell
Why Does Yale Hate America? Yale is the most destructive school in the US. It puts out horrible, self-promoting people, who are always wrongheaded, but wrongly believe they are God's gift. The research output is the most destructive of any school. Name a heinous intellectual trend with horrid effects, it gets traced to Yale. It is ground zero for political correctness. Its grads are uniformly, supercilious, arrogant ditwads. Its research is not even innovative. They summer in Europe and merely duplicate Euro trash intellectuals trends in the fall. It should be banned from public funds. It should be investigated. It should lose its tax exempt status. Its grads should be banned from any government employment.
Employment question. Ethical? Illegal? I work for a company that contracts to the government. Our contract was coming to an end and the bidding process was open. A new company won the contract. My company wanted to appeal the decision and protest. They asked us to stay "loyal" to them for 3 days with pay and not to sign with the new company. When asked what would happen if we signed and if they won back the contract...they said that those who stayed loyal would be brought back first. Is this legal? Can they blackmail us with our jobs?

My son is Autistic,Can you help us? My name is Ronit, and I am a mother of four children, who I am raising by myself. My youngest son Elad was born December 2003. His early development was normal, however when he was just over one year of age, he started to regress. He stopped talking, cried a lot and stopped moving forward with his development. Soon after that Elad was diagnosed with autism, and the rollercoaster beganֲ. (Autism is best described as a group of disorders with a similar pattern of behavior in three key areas - communication, social interaction and imaginative thought). As a child with severe autism, Elad has Difficulties with communication, social development, learning, and behavior.ֲ at present, Elad is not talking at all, this makes his world Very confusing, frustrating and scary. Elad’s lack of communication skills means that interacting and forming relationships with the people around him is very difficult, and at times impossible. I began to look into programs for my son.ֲ I sought advice from a psychologist at Autism Victoria, my son’s pediatrician, and read a great deal of information and research from around the world.ֲ Based on this research, the general consensus from professionals in the field of autism is that “ABA”- Applied Behavioral Analysisֲ therapy, is the most effective treatment program for children with autism. Evidence gathered that the best outcomes for children with autism are achieves by intensive, early behavioural intervention. Recent studies have shown that quite dramatic and long lasting improvements can result. ABA is a treatment program focusing on the skills a child needs to be able to function successfully and to enjoy life to the fullest. Language, social play, academic and self-help skills are all addressed. ABA is effective for children with autism as it teaches skills through a very structured program, targeting the fact that such children do not learn naturally for the environment. Research indicates that the best outcomes for children with autism come from early and intensive intervention. The New York State Department of Health has identified that for programs to be effective they must start early and include curriculum specifically designed for Autism, The intervention must be intensive (a minimum of 30 hours of one on one). In other parts of the world, including the USA, UK and Canada Governments provide adequate funding for families to access early and intensive evidence based treatment; they clearly recognise the importance of getting maximum and appropriate treatment at a very early age. They know that if they don’t provide this type of intensive intervention then the cost to the tax payer (government) of not treating those children in later life will be enormous. Autism and related conditions such as Asperger Syndrome and Rhett's syndrome cost the Australian community up to $7 billion each year, according to a new report on the economic impact of the disorder. The report, due to be released in Brisbane today at the start of Autism Awareness Week, analyses healthcare costs, education, social services, unemployment and informal care related to people with autism. Unemployment of people with autism was the greatest burden, at an estimated $3.63 billion a year. Autism spectrum disorders, which affect one in 160 Australians, are characterized by impaired social activity, communication and imagination. An estimated 30,000 Australian children suffer from the conditions. Synergy Economic Consulting, which prepared the report for the Autism Early Intervention Outcomes Unit, described its modeling as “conservative”. The report recommends greater investment in early intervention strategies that “maximize” the capabilities of people with autism. “If this improves education and employment outcomes for even a small number of people, the benefits -- via reduction in costs and improvements in quality-of-life outcomes -- will be sizeable,” the report says. In 2007, the Federal Government released a report entitled ‘A review of the research to identify the most effective models of practice in early intervention of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders’ – which concluded – “ to be successful early intervention needs to be extensive and intensive. A minimum of 20 hours a week over two or more years is essential for young children to make major gains.” ‘Unfortunately the Australian and Victorian governments do not fund early intensive therapy, (without the intensive therapy I might lose my son forever). “What other condition affects 30,000 thousand Australian children and their families, costs the community $7 billion per annum, and receives little or no Federal Government funding?” *I trust you will be happy to know that Thanks to the help from some wonderful people/ organizations Elad started his ABA therapy on June 2006. He is doing very well, learning new ways to communicate and express his needs, which reduces his stress level. It is really great for me to see that there is a hope for a better future for my son. We still have so much more to accomplish. At the moment Elad is getting 30 hours of therapy a week for the amount of $700 per week. My only source of income is centerlink payments/allowance, These payments do not adequately cover our daily living costs never mind the additional financial burden of my son’s ongoing therapy and medical costs.ֲI am extremely worried about how I will be able to go on and support my children. We desperately need a lot of financial support.
Has the United States become a nation of hypocrites? We import our style of democracy, yet our Civil Liberties and Civil Rights are eroding. The 1st Amendment hardly protects whistleblowers or those who question why people rob Americans blind with laws that protect the powerful and wealthy. Americans can get fired for almost anything "At-Will Employment." All aws to protect ordinary US Citizens are extremely weak. The FBI also harass those that dare to oppose when the US Federal Government does wrong. Please read my site and you decide. http://www.myspace.com/americaneedsdissenters My site explains the Dark side of the US Federal Government. Become aware of what can happen to you! China and financial world risk?? US debts? The Chinese Communist Party has a tiger by the tail: a 17% per annum increase in the M-2 money supply, and a need to provide employment for 1.5 million new arrivals every month in Chinese cities. The Chinese economy is now dependent on long-term monetary inflation higher than anything ever seen in a major nation in peacetime. The bust side of the monetary boom-bust cycle now threatens the legitimacy of the rulers of China. They dare not let it happen. But if the central bank slows the rate of monetary inflation to a single-digit rate for a year, it will happen. The basic infrastructure needed to accommodate 1.5 million arrivals each month must consume vast new quantities of commodities. This is the real world. These are real people who want real roofs over their heads. Their employers require oil, electricity, and cement. The invisible digital economy eventually affects the see-touch-feel economy. Nowhere is this connection more politically explosive than in China. The Chinese central bank is trapped. It will try to walk the tightrope between exports and domestic price inflation. How? By means of a 17% year-to-year increase in M-2 and a 23% year-to-year increase in the monetary base. If the bureaucrats fall off, taking the domestic economy into depression, the economic fallout will be international. In any case, if the central bank moves to the new mercantilism and away from Bretton Woods mercantilism, the days of low interest rates will end in the United States. If Uncle Wong decides that Uncle Sam’s promises to pay cannot be trusted, and therefore cement is a better deal, the U.S. government’s fiscal policy will soon have feet in cement. If this happens, the U.S. debt-driven economy will face the problem faced by Luca Brassi in The Godfather. He sleeps with the fishes. *// Want to know about China and world financial risk : read this : http://www.lewrockwell.com/north/north551.html Gary North
What are these documents that I need for my student visa appointment (I am a US citizen studying abroad)? If anyone has any experience with this or can offer advice, I'd appreciate it. I filled out the VAF1 and made an appointment to get my application processed this week.
