How credit score affect your employment at Federal Goverment (Canada)? I recently received a pending offer at federal government (Canada) saying that they anticipate an job offer to be sent to me in 3 weeks. However they said they are still preparing the paperwork for me. I am assuming that they are checking my criminal records as well as my credit history (as I signed the agreement). My identity was stolen and it is just recovered recently, however the score is only in the fair range around 630. I am thinking are they going to check my credit report (without score) or they will look at my score as well? In addition, I only have one account that has R4 ranking because I missed payment of $5 for 4 months because I moved. All the others are R1. Should I explain this to employer? What do you suggest me to do? Just wait?
Are there any staffing agencies in Canada that do placement for permanent employment in the Federal Government? Is the only way to get a permanent position in the federal government through the http://jobs-emplois.gc.ca website or through word of mouth?

What are the requirements for spousal employment insurance benefits in Canada? My spouse and I currently work at the same facitilty, which is likely to be closed down within the next year. We are starting to look for work elsewhere (currently we live in a very remote northern town) and I am wondering if one of us finds a job somewhere else, what is required for the spouse to be able to get EI benefitis? The government website I checked out does not answer that question, but I know that there are programs out there so that the unemployed spouse may get benefits and relocate to where the employed spouse is. Does anyone have any experience with this?
What a way to waste yur money in canada? Go there as an international student when the govt of canada does not? Which one of these diagonally opp statements are correct in immigration for an international student to canada? Hai. I was trying to apply for a student visa to canada under the PNP of Ontario . I ran into the below quoted statement from the website of the canadian Govt and is at a loss to understand as to how this is possible " In order to apply to Opportunities Ontario as an international student, students must: Have completed at least half of their studies in Canada, and have graduated or will soon be graduating from an eligible publicly funded Canadian college or university (students must send proof of graduation with their application). Have completed a minimum of a two-year diploma or degree program, while studying on a full-time basis. One-year post-graduate degree programs and certificate programs, which require a previous degree or diploma (which may have been obtained abroad), are also eligible. Assuming that I have studied only up-to 10th which is taking 10 years should I have completed 5 years of studies in canada? If I am from India, how CAN I complete 5 years of education out of 10 years in Canada unless my father was in the employment of the indian embassy in Canada ? Then I need to study post graduation again for two more years and then try for the opportunities of Ontario? MOST IMPORTANTLY THE AUTHORITIES GRANTING A STUDENT VISA in india ARE INSISTING PROOF AS TO HOW THE STUDENT SHALL COME BACK TO HIS HIME COUNTRY AND THEY WANT A STRONG HOME COUNTRY CONNECTIONS TO BE PROVED AND THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA ITSELF IS ON THE OTHER HAND SAYING -- COME TO CANADA, STUDY AND APPLY FOR THE IMMIGRATION. IS IT NOT TOTALLY A CONFUSING AND HYPOCRITICAL SITUATION AND HOW ONE WOULD SUCCEED TO GET A STUDENT VISA AND TEHM SUCCESSFULLY IMMIGRATE. CONSIDERING THE NUMBER OF QUESTIONS ON THE INTERNET IN THE DIFFICULTIES FACED BY THE STUDENTS IT APPEARS TO BE AN IMPOSSIBLE TASK TO STUDY IN CANADA AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND THEN APPLY FOR IMMIGRATION. iT IS ONLY CONVINCING THAT IT SHALL REMAIN A FUTILE EXERCISE MAKING YOU POORER BY A FORTUNE THAT YOU WOULD BE STUDYING IN THAT WONDERFUL STUDIES OF CANADA. Monetary policy in Canada? The policy regime the Bank of Canada has followed over the past fifteen years can be described as follows: the Bank targets the inflation rate rather than real variables such as GDP or employment; it strives to keep inflation at an average value of two percent plus or minus one percent; it signs long-term agreements with the Government of Canada that specifies this target into the future; and it publishes the Monetary Policy Report every six months that evaluates how successful it has been in achieving its target. Evaluate this policy regime.
Canada employment insurance programs for career change? I have been reading up online and still not finding very much about this subject. I thought I would ask here if anyone has gone back to school and been funded through EI? I am looking to change my career and take a 4 year university program to do so. I am hoping to be able to obtain some funding through EI to help out with living expenses and tuition. I remember about 10 years ago, my neighbor went to school for 2 years and EI paid for 80% of his, plus expenses of living. Does anyone know if this is still the same? Where could I look for better information, the government website is confusing me.

My son is Autistic,Can you help us? My name is Ronit, and I am a mother of four children, who I am raising by myself. My youngest son Elad was born December 2003. His early development was normal, however when he was just over one year of age, he started to regress. He stopped talking, cried a lot and stopped moving forward with his development. Soon after that Elad was diagnosed with autism, and the rollercoaster beganֲ. (Autism is best described as a group of disorders with a similar pattern of behavior in three key areas - communication, social interaction and imaginative thought). As a child with severe autism, Elad has Difficulties with communication, social development, learning, and behavior.ֲ at present, Elad is not talking at all, this makes his world Very confusing, frustrating and scary. Elad’s lack of communication skills means that interacting and forming relationships with the people around him is very difficult, and at times impossible. I began to look into programs for my son.ֲ I sought advice from a psychologist at Autism Victoria, my son’s pediatrician, and read a great deal of information and research from around the world.ֲ Based on this research, the general consensus from professionals in the field of autism is that “ABA”- Applied Behavioral Analysisֲ therapy, is the most effective treatment program for children with autism. Evidence gathered that the best outcomes for children with autism are achieves by intensive, early behavioural intervention. Recent studies have shown that quite dramatic and long lasting improvements can result. ABA is a treatment program focusing on the skills a child needs to be able to function successfully and to enjoy life to the fullest. Language, social play, academic and self-help skills are all addressed. ABA is effective for children with autism as it teaches skills through a very structured program, targeting the fact that such children do not learn naturally for the environment. Research indicates that the best outcomes for children with autism come from early and intensive intervention. The New York State Department of Health has identified that for programs to be effective they must start early and include curriculum specifically designed for Autism, The intervention must be intensive (a minimum of 30 hours of one on one). In other parts of the world, including the USA, UK and Canada Governments provide adequate funding for families to access early and intensive evidence based treatment; they clearly recognise the importance of getting maximum and appropriate treatment at a very early age. They know that if they don’t provide this type of intensive intervention then the cost to the tax payer (government) of not treating those children in later life will be enormous. Autism and related conditions such as Asperger Syndrome and Rhett's syndrome cost the Australian community up to $7 billion each year, according to a new report on the economic impact of the disorder. The report, due to be released in Brisbane today at the start of Autism Awareness Week, analyses healthcare costs, education, social services, unemployment and informal care related to people with autism. Unemployment of people with autism was the greatest burden, at an estimated $3.63 billion a year. Autism spectrum disorders, which affect one in 160 Australians, are characterized by impaired social activity, communication and imagination. An estimated 30,000 Australian children suffer from the conditions. Synergy Economic Consulting, which prepared the report for the Autism Early Intervention Outcomes Unit, described its modeling as “conservative”. The report recommends greater investment in early intervention strategies that “maximize” the capabilities of people with autism. “If this improves education and employment outcomes for even a small number of people, the benefits -- via reduction in costs and improvements in quality-of-life outcomes -- will be sizeable,” the report says. In 2007, the Federal Government released a report entitled ‘A review of the research to identify the most effective models of practice in early intervention of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders’ – which concluded – “ to be successful early intervention needs to be extensive and intensive. A minimum of 20 hours a week over two or more years is essential for young children to make major gains.” ‘Unfortunately the Australian and Victorian governments do not fund early intensive therapy, (without the intensive therapy I might lose my son forever). “What other condition affects 30,000 thousand Australian children and their families, costs the community $7 billion per annum, and receives little or no Federal Government funding?” *I trust you will be happy to know that Thanks to the help from some wonderful people/ organizations Elad started his ABA therapy on June 2006. He is doing very well, learning new ways to communicate and express his needs, which reduces his stress level. It is really great for me to see that there is a hope for a better future for my son. We still have so much more to accomplish. At the moment Elad is getting 30 hours of therapy a week for the amount of $700 per week. My only source of income is centerlink payments/allowance, These payments do not adequately cover our daily living costs never mind the additional financial burden of my son’s ongoing therapy and medical costs.ֲI am extremely worried about how I will be able to go on and support my children. We desperately need a lot of financial support.
Canadians, I need your opinion please!? The government said that Canada's employment rate is going down this year, 2009. "We're in for a difficult year," Flaherty said at a press conference in Thornhill, north of Toronto. "We regrettably are going to have to expect continuing job losses in Canada. We are going to have substantial job losses (this year)." Do you think that all of us Canadians can make it back where we're used to be? I believe we can. What do you think? Please rate as interesting so many people would read this question. Thank you in advance.

new job thinking of quitting for another job HELP!!!!? okay im 21 years old just finished UNiversity 2 months ago and have been working at Procter & Gamble in finance since i graduated. recently i got a new job offer from the government the Canada revenue agency(equiv to I believe the IRS in the states) and I am completly confused about what to do! The job at P&G pays 37K start and they promote from within so Im at the bottom. The job at the government starts at 43,500 and after one year goes to 49,000 as the first year is an apprenticeship but ur guaranteed employment after. Part of me wants to go to the government but Im worried about the future potential as opposed to P&G as I heard its hard to move up in the government but for now the money seems really good also I've only been at P&G for 2 months everyone is really nice and i dont wanna get anyone upset by just quitting. ANY ADVICE?!?!?!
If the Canadian government, through the Bank of Canada, sells Canada Savings bonds (a security), likely:? a)inflation will increase, interest rates will increase, employment will increase b)inflation will fall, interest rates will increase, employment will fall c)inflation will increase, interest rates will fall, employment will increase d)inflation will fall, interest rates will fall, employment will fall
Does the Canada Employment Amount on Canadian tax returns apply to self-employed persons? It doesn't look like it, since you have to put the amount on the spaces which are designated for earnings with T4 slips , and other employment income. Yet further down, there's the little chart for the self-employed. Oops, it looks like the government forgot to include us! So they evaded the real question, and the answer is "No". It's not fair, is it? Self-employment, is after all, employment, and we should get that credit like every other employed person. The self-employed should raise a protest about this to our government. What about all the farmers and fishermen? The lose out too, don't they?

Are full-time students, who recieve Canadian Employment Insurance benefits, required to seek employment? Are full-time university students required to continue to seek full-time/part-time employment opportunities in order to continue to recieve their regular, earned employment insurance benefits (in Canada)? Though technically, time to work may appear be available (apart from time actually spent in lectures) - time to read, study, and complete work is not taken into consideration. I would argue that this is frictional unemployment, and the student is in a course of instruction (though not reffered by a human resource centre, etc.) to obtain more job qualifications. Does anyone know the government's stance/position on this issue? thanks..

How much money does it cost to get a employment lawyer in canada? I got fired last week and my ex-employer owes me money. He is just unwilling to give me that money so I think i have to get a lawyer to solve this. I heard from my friend that it doesn't cost any, but I highly doubt about it. Does it really not cost anything? and if it does, is there any other way I can get my money from my ex-employer? I am gonna leave this country in 2 months so labour board might not be help cus I know it takes longer to get help from the government. p.s. How do I become a Wildland Firefighter in Canada? I'm currently a Wildland Firefighter with the US Forest Service in the United States. I'm considering a move to Canada and would like to get a job as wildland firefighter up there as well. In the States, the US Forest Service and the National Park Service are in charge of hiring wildland firefighters, but on the Canadian Forest Service's website, I didn't see any links for fire employment. Where does one go in Canada to be a wildland firefighter and what department of government deals with their hiring, if any? Thank you. On a side note I'm considering Vancouver as my destination.

Is Michael Moore is a Sicko ?? Michael Moore Is a Sicko by Sumit Dahiya by Sumit Dahiya DIGG THIS I want to tell the story of a young man who was attending a Southern University, a few years ago. During his freshman year he was sick with appendicitis, which he misdiagnosed as regular stomach ache for a day. As the agony grew unbearable, he was taken to the regional hospital in an ambulance. That night the doctors operated on his appendix. The young man was feeling better the next day. As he prepared to leave, the hospital’s representative took care of the paperwork by the side of his bed. His Insurance Company took care of the medical bills in accordance with his Insurance contract. The next day the young man was back to school. The Insurance Company saved the student from potential bankruptcy who was living on limited means as a college student. The young man was none other than me. The year was 2002. To this day I praise my good fortune that I was insured. Had I not been insured, I would have gone broke and I would have never been able to make it through college. But, Michael Moore did not bother to find countless stories like mine to present a fair synopsis of the American health-care system. Biased, unfair, hateful, venomous and anti-free-market is how I would describe Michael Moore’s latest propaganda film Sicko. When I first heard about Michael Moore’s intention to make a film on health-care in America, I was expecting a sequel for Supersize Me, considering his not so healthy lifestyle. Later on I found out that the film was about the state of health-care in America. Mr. Moore was upset at the way the Government has turned health-care into a fiasco, while turning a blind eye towards his socialist co-ideologues in Congress and State Legislatures who have turned the environment for the health-care providers of America into a hostile one by the means of populist legislation and frivolous lawsuits. As a Libertarian leaning paleo-conservative, I have always known how the Government just destroys anything that it can get its hands on. If you let the Government dog-sit your cute little puppy, don't be surprised if it sucks the puppy's blood by the time you are back. That’s what successive Government regimes have done to America. They sucked the blood out of this idea that was supposed to promote life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They started with the destruction of the constitution, followed by the destruction of the Republic. When there was nothing left to destroy at the Federal level, they stomped all over the States’ rights by refusing the Southern States their right to secede. The only institution that was left untouched all along; the Supreme Court of the land, was destroyed by being stuffed with partisan judges who have repeatedly stressed on their loyalty for their party rather than showing any loyalty for the constitution that they swore to defend. Destruction is what the Government is good at. Whether it is the destruction of civilization during wartime or it is the destruction of civil-rights during peace time, destruction of health-care in America is just another accomplishment of our Government. Michael Moore managed to find ten people across America who got "screwed" by their Insurance companies. Why should I be surprised considering the troll's leftist leanings that he could not find even one individual in this country of 300 million who owes a lot to the health-care providers and Insurance companies which were by his or her side during their tragic moments. While the commies in the movie hall felt angry about the "greedy corporations," I thought it was really stupid of the man who had his fingers chopped off on an electric saw for not having an Insurance policy. You buy a house to shelter your family. You buy food to keep your body functioning. You buy other good things to improve your life. So, what kind of dunce would trust the Government with his or her health, which is the most important thing in our lives? How about the chick who did not care about reading through the fine print of her Insurance policy, so that she knew that she may not have access to certain services through her insurer. So, why was she surprised when her Insurance company refused to reimburse her for the Ambulance ride to the hospital? When she signed on her Insurance contract that did not provide for an Ambulance service, the Insurance company was right to assume that their client was willing to take the responsibility of commuting to a hospital when in time of need. Otherwise, she was always free to choose an Insurance contract that did provide for Ambulance services. There was another sob story of an elderly couple who were bankrupted by the rising cost of their prescription drugs. They should have explored their other option. How about purchasing the prescriptions online? Last year I was smitten by steroids. Now, I place my hands on this holy computer that connects me to the world, that I have never consumed any quantity of any substance that was never approved by the goons at FDA. But, just out of curiosity, I looked into the possibilities of sourcing those magic pills that could give me a dynamite physique which would make the ladies go jelly in their knees. There are virtually thousands of online pharmacies that fill your prescriptions for a fraction of what you would pay at your local store. However, I do agree that Pharmaceuticals are an entirely different problem in America. A couple of years ago, I was listening to the Late Great Harry Browne’s radio interview with Marry Ruwart (download the show by right-clicking here and here). Miss Ruwart who has been in the Pharmaceuticals industry for a long time mentioned some of the Government-inflicted problems that the industry faces. While Mr. Moore was quick to mention that 18,000 people die in America every year because of no or little health-care coverage, he failed to mention that an even greater number of people die in America every year because the FDA either refuses to approve or takes a decade to approve badly needed drugs. This is on the top of the billions of dollars that the industry spends to research and develop life-saving drugs. One must not forget that it takes entire careers that span over several decades to develop a drug that saves thousands of lives around the world. While the Government literally throws our hard-earned tax money into the furnace by spending over a trillion dollars every year to develop weapon systems that cause mass-destruction and extinguish thousands of lives, we should have anything but disgust for the Pharmaceutical companies that spend billions of dollars every year to develop cures for illnesses that indiscriminately destroy human lives across the globe. They expend their own limited resources for their work in contradiction of our Government that extracts money from us at the point of a gun. If they fail, they don’t impose any cost on the society. If they succeed, the consumers are free to buy or avoid their products. That’s the beauty of free markets. I am not surprised that drugs are so expensive in America. The retail price of the drugs takes into account the decades it takes to develop the product and another decade it takes to get an FDA approval. It takes into account the cost of developing other drugs that never saw the light of the day because FDA disapproved them; as if the Government really cares whether we live or die. The cost takes into account the efforts of the company to be the first to come up with the drug. The costs further include the fact that there are investors who risk losing their hard-earned money by investing in a risky venture that does not guarantee profits. I wonder why the woman who went to Cuba with Michael Moore was so surprised when she found out that generic versions of American drugs cost a fraction of what they cost in America. The communist Government of Cuba does not have to worry about FDA regulation, billions of dollars in research and development costs and the risks that accompany investing the billions of dollars. The communist Government of Cuba also does not have to assume the liability of litigation that accompanies the risk of doing business in a free market. In the movie, Michael Moore interviewed Che Guevara’s daughter. That name sends a chill down my spine while I fall through a worm hole as I think of the thousands who were lined up against a wall and executed by the devil. The rape chambers and the gulags that were set up long before they inspired the tyrants in countries that had a desert or a patch of tropical forest, seem to be Michael Moore’s secret prescription for those who vote Republican or dare to disagree with him otherwise. One must wonder how Michael Moore managed to get hold of Che’s daughter in Cuba. Of millions of people in Cuba, Michael Moore managed to find the link to the person who is the perfect antithesis of life and liberty. While in Cuba, Michael Moore must have devoted considerable efforts to locate and get access to the communist elite. And, when he finally managed to get the access he used the supposed "luminaries" to bash the American way of life. I wonder if Michael Moore paid homage to Comrade Fidel, during his vacation in Cuba. The question is, what kind of ideologue would care to see communist mass-murderers or their descendants, and even caste them in an anti-free-market propaganda. At least Michael Moore was honest about openly expressing his communist-leaning sympathies by making us believe those damn commies in the Caribbean do it better than Americans. A few years ago, when a communist Ph.D. student who lived next door from me defended Michael Moore, I wasn’t a bit surprised. Michael Moore went to Canada, England, France and Cuba to contrast the charitable Governments of these countries with the "evil American health-care providers and Insurance companies." He went gaga over how the Canadians get all the pills and shots in their bottoms and don’t have to pay a penny for it. How about the wretched Americans living in Britain and France who get house visits by the doctor, the Government paid nannies and not to forget the paid maternity leaves? Only a person with an IQ equivalent to the room temperature could be scammed by Michael Moore into believing that there are these wonderful places on earth where people get all these nice things in a gift bag for free from the Government. I will repeat an old adage: "there is no such thing as a free lunch." The costs of sub-standard health-care services in these countries are socialized by their Government by literally taxing their citizens to death. In Canada, the taxes may not be as bad as Europe but the Government makes private health-care next to impossible by highly subsidizing socialized health-care and thus creating an uneven playing field. In Britain, the National Health Services is just one of the programs along with other frivolous Government spending that the taxpayers fund by shelling out every penny they earn for the first six months of a year (the tax holiday in Britain falls around mid-year). In France, health-care is just another Government sham along with the guaranteed employment, 35-hour work-week and guards against laying-off unproductive employees which motivates employers to discriminate between the usually reliable natives and the usually unreliable stereotypically lazy immigrants from Africa and other countries. Finally, do I need to believe the Castro-approved shooting locations for Michael Moore to conclude that Cuba provides world-class health-care, or is it that all I need to realize how screwed up of a place Cuba is when I hear of all those hundreds of thousands of Cubans in South Florida who risked their lives by swimming 90 miles to make it to America. It seems to me that the promise of a future in a society that has some sort of free-market leaning way of life is more powerful than the so-called "free health-care" of communist Cuba. The question that Michael Moore seeks to answer in his documentary is whether we should have a for-profit health-care system in America. The unequivocal answer is "yes." If we remove the incentive of profit from health-care in America, we will lose the edge that we hold over the rest of the world in terms of ground-breaking medical and pharmaceutical research and development. The lack of profit will lead the investors to move their investments elsewhere, where the Government does not poke its nose. In the absence of profits, and under the blessings of the Government, health-care which will get to be known as "public-health-care" will turn into just another bureaucratic hell hole like public education. Speaking of public education, Michael Moore must be so out of touch with reality living in his upscale condo somewhere in New York to claim that the Government is doing an excellent job at indoctrinating, oops! I meant educating our children. I wonder if Michael and his wife sent his stepdaughter to a public school in Bronx. If so, I admire this committed socialist. The state of public education in America is no secret for the rest of the world. How can you trust a corrupt institution like Government that lacks morality and principles to teach your children to grow up to be principled moralists? Besides, all you need to do to realize that the Government has diminished the intelligence and imagination our children is to have a peep in the places of high-end scientific research and development. You will feel as if though you are in Beijing of Bangalore. I admire the few American kids who manage to survive years of Government induced academic torture and still manage to make it to places that make this country proud. The point is that when we allow the Government to become the monopoly in areas such as education, police, fire department and road transport (to mention a few), we reject the prospects of a healthy competition which is required to provide the best services that money can buy. In the absence of competition, people get used to Government-provided sub-standard service. In a few years time we reach a stage that when a rational individual proposes the prospects of free and fair competition in areas where the Government holds a monopoly, the first thing to come out of people who seem to fill their Ritalin prescriptions on time is: "What about the roads, and who is going to provide the services of police and the fire department?" What are we going to do when armed gangs roam the streets like they did in New Orleans? We have reached a point in time, when it is a sin to even imagine what things would be like in the absence of Government monopolies and presence of a free-market-based competition. America has moved from being a Jeffersonian Republic to being a Hamiltonian State (see DiLorenzo), where the Government is nothing short of being a monarchy that Americans sanction every few years via the Diebold machines. It is not just about health-care. It is a problem with a much broader context. Government oversight and regulation has virtually seeped through every aspect of our lives. We are just short of having Government's cameras in our bedrooms. We are living in a state of emergency. While people like Michael Moore would like the Government to baby-sit us as long as it is not the Republicans, it is the duty of every concerned citizen to peacefully oppose the expansion of Government-led socialization. While Michael Moore's message may have been a compassionate one that urges us to take care of the weak and the vulnerable in our society, the repercussions of his suggestions of a socialized health-care sound ominous to just any rational individual. Instead of letting the Government assume any further control over our health-care system, we need to urge the Government to systematically de-socialize the way we take care of our health. We could start with the dismantling of the FDA so that pharmaceutical companies can speed up the provision of life-saving drugs. Next, we could dismantle the American Medical Association that regulates the number of doctors entering the industry every year. Then we may not need to import doctors from other countries that do not regulate their supply. Further we need to enforce the right of health-care institutions to hire non-union staff. If the hospital employees still volunteer to strike, the hospital’s administrators should have the right to suspend or fire the striking staff without notice and compensation. Finally, we need to have dedicated attorneys who tear to shreds the frivolous lawsuits that are filed against health-care providers causing their Insurance premiums to go up, which in turn inflate our medical and insurance bills. After all these efforts we could achieve a health-care system that can take care of the weak and the vulnerable in our society. If Michael Moore's intentions are genuine, then I am sure the consequences of a market-based health-care system will make him feel better. In the meantime he needs to lay-off that box of Twinkies. While the concept of markets may not mean anything to Michael Moore, people have spoken by the means of markets and have delivered their verdict against him. The movie opened at ninth spot on the US box office, and has been struggling to cover its production budget of nine million dollars. This is in stark contrast to his Republican bash-fest Fahrenheit 9/11, which made over 100 million dollars. After this debacle, I hope no rational investor would risk their money with the Twinkie-monster. In the mean time, I hope Fidel Castro appoints Michael Moore the minister of propaganda in Cuba. He is just unwilling to give me that money so I think i have to get a lawyer to solve this. I heard from my friend that it doesn't cost any which is I highly doubt. I am gonna leave this country in 2 months so labour board might not be help cus I know it takes longer to get help from the government. p.s. I'm in toronto, canada.
Is James Hansen soon to be Fired? Should he have kept his rear-end in the lab and out of 'YouTube'?? Feb 23, 2009 Calls Mount for Obama to Fire NASA Climate Chief By James M. Taylor Calls are mounting for President Barack Obama to fire James Hansen, the controversial figure in charge of climate studies at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Hansen has a record of allegedly doctoring temperature data to hype his argument that global warming is a crisis. The new calls for his resignation or termination come following his appearance in a video calling for civil disobedience at a protest at a power plant in Washington, DC. “It is plainly improper for someone on the U.S. government payroll to advocate civil disobedience on behalf of a non-government advocacy group,” said Dan Miller, executive vice president of The Heartland Institute and former chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission. “As long as a public official is on the public payroll, his first loyalty is to his constituency, not to some outside pressure group calling on people to break the law,” Miller said. A video featuring Hansen is prominently displayed on the Web site of a group called Capitol Climate Action. In it, Hansen says “please join us” at a protest at a power plant in Washington, DC. The facility burns coal to generate electricity. The Web site calls on people to “surround the plant, disrupting access, and refusing to leave when asked.” Incredibly, he has even called for Nuremberg-style trials for scientists who disagree with him about the causes and possible consequences of climate change. “If I did what Jim has done while I was a NASA employee, I would have been drawn and quartered and then fired,” said Dr. Roy Spencer, principal research scientist for the University of Alabama… “I have been following Jim Hansen’s travails over many years, said Hans Labohm, a climate policy expert based in The Netherlands. “My impression is that he has been acting like a climate activist rather than a climate scientist. We in Europe tend to regard NASA as a serious scientific organization. I have always wondered how someone like Jim Hansen could be part of it. As an expert reviewer of the IPCCs Fourth Assessment Report, I believe I express the concerns of many people.” “Hansen’s questionable and often outrageous use of rhetoric, ploys, and tactics should call his continued employment by the taxpayer into question,” said Chris Horner, author of Red Hot Lies. “It is surprising that he has been allowed to remain in such a sensitive public post,” said Terry Dunleavy, executive vice-chairman of the International Climate Science Coalition. Dunleavy, writing from New Zealand, goes on to say, “I’m not sure which is worse: Hansen’s disrespect for science or his flouting of American public service values.” “Hansen is primarily responsible for making climate and climate change a political rather than a scientific issue, and for that alone he should be fired, especially since his position as a scientist and a bureaucrat must be apolitical,” said Dr. Timothy Ball, former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. “He has made it so that if you agree with AGW [anthropogenic global warming] you are politically left and if you disagree you are politically right and in my opinion there is no greater indictment of the politicizing of climate science,” Ball added. icecap.us
My boss asked me to do Illegal things at work, I refused, then i got fired!. Help!? (Toronto,Ontario) I got fired from my job recently because I refused to do Illegal actions my boss forced me to do at work. I work at a private college. A small collage that is operating legally on the out side ONLY. Yet inside (at work), we apply for Employment Insurance for individuals who don't even come to school! and charge the Ontario government $17,000 for a fricken massage therapy course that they both split it's profits (between college and student)! those individuales don't even show up to school! besides all that, they also have specialized team to make phone calls and also receive phone calls from the gevernment I.E. pretending that they are other individuals to get applications accepted and funded quicker (they have many pay-as-you-go receiving cell numbers which they use to receive calls from the numbers they give out on application to the government. And above that, They hire Individuals from over seas to get them the Permanent Resident Status in Canada! these individuals don't even have any thing to do at the college they don't show up to work. they just pay taxes and get a fake letter of employment to look like they are working somewhere and this way they trick Immigration-Canada to give them working permits and eventually P.R. Cards! the college charges large sums of money for doing that! all in cash! I have proof of deceit! and i was fired for being Honest! Who can i report them to? How can i stop them from stealing the government? I don't want my job back, i just want to stop this college from operating this illegal scheme. Please help? I have proofs! This is Very Serious.
Health Care Jobs Reserved for Minorities? Will the eventual takeover of our health care system result in exclusion of white workers as it has in Canada? Can we trust our Government to act fairly and not exclude whites based on their race? OTTAWA - A stay-at-home mother trying to re-enter the workforce after nine years away says she can’t understand why the federal government would stop her from applying for a job simply because she is white. Sara Landriault, a sometime family activist, says that with her kids in school full time she decided to start looking for work outside of the home. While surfing on the federal government job website, Landriault says she found a position at Citizenship and Immigration Canada she felt she was qualified for but was blocked from submitting her resume because she was not an aboriginal or visible minority. “I was flabbergasted,” Landriault said in a telephone interview from her home in Kemptville, Ont., just south of Ottawa. “It was insane. I’m white, so I can’t do it?” Landriault says she has seen job postings in the past that encourage certain groups to apply. “Which is fine, it’s an equal opportunity position,” Landriault said. “But an equal opportunity employer does not stop one race from applying.” A CIC spokeswoman takes a different view. “We are under-represented by aboriginal employees in our work force,” said Melanie Carkner. “At this point in time, the department does meet requirements for visible minorities; however, given the department’s mandate, we make a concerted effort to hire individuals in this group.” The Employment Equity Act, first introduced by the Mulroney government in 1986 and updated by the Chretien government in 1995, allows for certain groups to be favoured when it comes to hiring. The federal government’s policy on employment equity states that the goal is to “ensure that designated group members achieve equitable representation within the public service.” The policy also says that hiring should respect the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which states that “every individual is equal before and under the law,” but also contains a clause allowing for affirmative action programs. Some prominent Conservative MPs, including Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl, have spoken out against this kind of discriminatory hiring practice in the past. In 2005, then public works minister Liberal Scott Brison called his department to task for issuing a memo stating that only certain groups would be hired. "I support the whole policy of inclusion, but I do not support discriminating against any group in hiring practice,” Brison said at the time. http://www.ottawasun.com/news/canada/2010/07/20/14772731.html
What are maternity benefits like where you live? I'm just curious what benefits are like in other parts of the world. I'd love to hear where you're from, what the government offers to women (how long off, how much money, etc), if men can access the same benefits, and what is common practice around employers supplementing income. Here's what we get in Canada: If a parent has worked more than 600 hours in the last year before the baby is born, he/she will be granted 1 year of leave off of work where the job will be held for that person. While off on leave the parent can collect employment insurance in the amount of approximately 50% of their salary up to a maximum of $710 (net income) every 2 weeks. This applies to both parents, however only one parent can take advantage of this at any given time. The parents can share the year (ie mom first 6 months, dad the next 6, or one parent takes all). This also applies to same sex partners. Some employers will add to the gov. contribution anywhere from 55-100% of the salary. Wow I didn't even think about what others might have to pay for medical services etc. Thanks for adding that info. too it's really interesting. I was originally just asking about time off work and compensation while off on leave. I never considered the medical costs involved because in Canada we don't pay anything. If any other answerers wan to comment on who pays medical costs that would be interesting to me too.
What is my residency and where should I pay tax? I have just retired from the Canadian government, and will leave to work in Florida, USA, later this month for a Canadian based company which sends me there to work for its branch there. I intend to sell my Canadian house, buy a house in Florida and my wife will live with me there. It is possible that Canada considers me as a non resident (with my principal residence being in Florida and my wife lives with me there, etc). As an expatriate, will I be considered as a US resident and pay US tax on my employment income paid by my Canadian employer?
How would you vote or feel if what is listed below was a small piece of the budget? Here is part of the plan thought of, but the government does not want to listen to history or to someone who has experiences in dealing with problems. A) Scrape the present taxation system completely, and create a flat tax of 17.5% across the board regardless of income. This would create an increase of take home money to the people of about 55.5% B) Ask all Canadians to accept a wage and salary freeze for a period of 3 years @ 2008 levels. (Except for politicians who truly care for this country and its people. see next point) C) Politician should be willing to be leaders in tackling this problem since they are part of the solution/issue. - Therefore they should take a pay cut of 34%. This would release Millions of dollars to be re-allocated. - Also, thier pension plans should fall in line with the guidline of the average Canadian based on the Maxium allowable under the Canada Pension Plan. - The removal of the 8 year clause for quailifing for full pension. D) implement a reward or penality system in regards to business/corporations as follows: Reward - no taxes to be applied up to an amount of $1 Billion of Gross profits if 25% of that amount is re-invested in Canada only (not oversea ventures). This would help create jobs, build infrastrues, broaden employment, educate workers, and help stimulate the economy of the future. (ie: expansions, r&d, new products, new program.) This also allows companies the pride of giving back to this country. Penality - 32% tax for any amount of money sent out of this country. This helps Canada because it is compensation for lost of present and future revenue. (ie: jobs lost or not created) To help equal out the playing field pass legislation to cap the gross mark-up/profit margins of selling goods 35.3%. This would create a competitive field for better quality and workmanship. Because the present taxation system would be scraped there would not be a manufacturing tax, HST, GST or PST. In regards to Provincial/Federal Crown Corporations they must follow the guidline just like everyone else. For students who recieve loans allow them the same amount of time to pay back the loan as it took them to get into debt interest free ie: if they borrowed for 5 year then allow them 5 years to pay it all back. Any outstanding balance after their interest free period, would then become due or interest will be added to that balance at prime + 1.5% This is just a part of what can be done when listening to the Canadian People. you should see the rest of this plan.
Voluntary work while on a visitors visa? I'm currently in Canada on a 6-month visitors visa, I woud like to undertake voluntary work (ie. receiving no payment, no contract, no benefits etc) just so I can be useful and contribute whilst I'm here. Would this breach the conditions of my visitors visa? I'm aware I'm unable to undertake paid employment whilst on a visitors visa, but I'm hoping voluntary work would be acceptable, I can't find any info on this on the immigration or government websites. Many thanks Lori, just out of interest, are you based in Canada? Many thanks for your replies, at home I Manage a day care cetnre for the elderly so I'm looking for volunteering opportunities working with seniors, I've found a great company that advertises volunteer positions with various organisations and now with your answers I've made an appointment to go and see them. Are there any experts on immigration to Canada who can answer my question? I'm borrowing this account to ask a question. I would like to immigrate to Canada. I am a married 30 year old Italian citizen, with no criminal record. No children. I am in my last year of post graduate study. I would like to apply under the skilled worker program as a university professor. I have taught at the university level in Italy and the United States. I am fluent in english and proficient in french. My spouse is 27 with some higher education. I don't have family in Canada. I can support myself upon arrival. I have some financial assets. The only thing that I lack is confirmed employment but I do believe that I will be able to find an appointment to teach. My field of expertise is quite esoteric and I believe that my knowledge is needed in Canada. I've taken the self-assessment test on the Canadian government website I scored a 74 with a passing score of 67. As a knowledgeable person in this matter, what do you think? Is my chance to immigrate realistic? Thank you very much for the advice and encouragement, Jim B and egay. It is my greatest hope to be able to live and work in Canada, to build a life there and have my children be born as Canadian citizens. eh?
canadian income tax? Here is an interesting math problem. Suppose that you are self-employed and earn an annual gross income of $13 000 CAD in Canada. That means, there are no deductions for Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, and income tax. So, you always take home the paycheques of your gross earnings. How much will you have to pay back the government when you file your income tax return?

What would be the proper government agency to report this crime to? I received an "employment offer" in the mail to be a mystery shopper for some company. Enclosed with this offer was a cashiers check for $4,996. There was a list of things I was to do with this money. I keep $300, spend 50 at WalMart and $40 at the Gap. The rest was for two money grams for over $1,000. I knew it was a scam when I saw the check. It was mailed from Canada. The Cashiers Check is from a bank in Indiana. The "business" address is from South Dakota, and I live in South Carolina. Who do I report this to and how? I am very bothered by this because these crooks have my name and my name is on this check. Please help! Thanks.

income tax question in canada? Please help me with my questions. I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada and work as a tutor at a learning center. I don't know why the employer categorizes all of her employees as self-employed. So, all of us are self-employed tutors for her and get pay by the hour. That means, there are no deductions from our paycheques ( no contributions to Canadian Pension Plan and to Employment Insurance). We all get the gross earnings. (1) I am single, have no children, and don't have any assets, investments, bonds, cars and so on. I have always been living in Vancouver, BC, Cananda. I rent an apartment and go to work by bus. Approximately, I will have earned an annual gross income of $14 000 CAD at the end of 2008. How much do you think I will have to pay back the government when I file an income tax return next year? (2) Why does my employer employ us on a self-employed basis? Is she getting any advantages this way? Thanks a lot.
Wld u vte BNP ova their policies,nd do u belive that the BNP are the only prty that cn save our British Cultr? IMMIGRATION - time to say ENOUGH! On current demographic trends, we, the native British people, will be an ethnic minority in our own country within sixty years. To ensure that this does not happen, and that the British people retain their homeland and identity, we call for an immediate halt to all further immigration, the immediate deportation of criminal and illegal immigrants, and the introduction of a system of voluntary resettlement whereby those immigrants who are legally here will be afforded the opportunity to return to their lands of ethnic origin assisted by a generous financial incentives both for individuals and for the countries in question. We will abolish the 'positive discrimination' schemes that have made white Britons second-class citizens. We will also clamp down on the flood of 'asylum seekers', all of whom are either bogus or can find refuge much nearer their home countries. EUROPE - back to British independence! We are opposed to the Single European Currency, and support the overwhelming majority of the British people in their desire to keep the Pound and our traditional weights and measures. At the same time, we are for the best possible relationship with our European neighbours and believe that the nations of Europe should be free to trade and cooperate whenever it is mutually beneficial, though without being forced into a political and economic straitjacket - political unification. Accordingly, we stand for British withdrawal from the European Union. In place of the EU, we intend to aim towards greater national self-sufficiency, and to work to restore Britain's family and trading ties with Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and to trade with the rest of the world as it suits us. Following our withdrawal from the EU, the BNP will use the £43 million per day net contribution Britain at present makes to the European Union to fund many far more useful projects at home. LAW AND ORDER - crack down on crime! The BNP will crack down on crime and restore public safety and confidence. We will free the police and courts from the politically correct straitjacket that is stopping them from doing their job properly. The liberal fixation with the 'rights' of criminals must be replaced by concern for the rights of victims, and the right of innocent people not to become victims. We support the re-introduction of corporal punishment for petty criminals and vandals, and the restoration of capital punishment for paedophiles, terrorists and murderers as an option for judges in cases where their guilt is proven beyond dispute, as by DNA evidence or being caught red-handed. ECONOMY - British workers first! Globalisation, with its export of jobs to the Third World, is bringing ruin and unemployment to British industries and the communities that depend on them. Accordingly, the BNP calls for the selective exclusion of foreign-made goods from British markets and the reduction of foreign imports. We will ensure that our manufactured goods are, wherever possible, produced in British factories, employing British workers. When this is done, unemployment in this country will be brought to an end, and secure, well-paid employment will flourish, at last getting our people back to work and ending the waste and injustice of having more than 4 million people in a hidden army of the unemployed concealed by Labour's statistical fiddles. We further believe that British industry, commerce, land and other economic and natural assets belong in the final analysis to the British nation and people. To that end we will restore our economy and land to British ownership. We also call for preference in the job market to be given to native Britons. We will take active steps to break up the socially, economically and politically damaging monopolies now being established by the supermarket giants. Finally we will seek to give British workers a stake in the success and prosperity of the enterprises whose profits their labour creates by encouraging worker shareholder and co-operative schemes. EDUCATION - discipline, standards, achievement! We are against the 'trendy' teaching methods that have made Britain one of the most poorly educated nations in Europe. We will end the practice of politically correct indoctrination in all its guises and we will restore discipline in the classroom, give authority back to teachers and put far greater emphasis on training young people in the industrial and technological skills necessary in the modern world. We will also seek to instill in our young people knowledge of and pride in the history, cultures and heritage of the native peoples of Britain. AGRICULTURE - quality before quantity! We see a strong, healthy agriculture sector as vital to the country. Britain's farming industry will be encouraged to produce a much greater part of the nation's need in food products. Priority will be switched from quantity to quality, as we move from competing in a global economy to maximum self-sufficiency for Britain. We will ensure a major shift to healthier and more sustainable organic farming. We are pledged to ensure the restoration of Britain's once great fishing industry with the reimposition of the former exclusion zones around our coast. HEALTH - first-class healthcare for all! We are wholly committed to a free, fully funded National Health Service for all British citizens. We will revitalise the Health Service by boosting staff and bed numbers, slashing unnecessary bureaucracy and by addressing the root cause of low recruitment and retention - low pay. We will see to it that no money is given in foreign aid while our own hospitals are short of beds and the staff to run them. More emphasis must be placed on healthy living with greater understanding of sickness prevention through physical exercise, a healthier environment and improved diets. TRANSPORT - time to invest! Increased investment is needed in Britain's public transport system to bring it up to the highest standards in the world. The fiasco of rail privatisation with different companies running services and track leading to higher fares and lower safety also needs to be resolved. Congestion of our towns and cities must be eased by the provision of greater incentives to use rail and bus transport instead of private cars. The first step is to end the crime and squalor that puts so many people off public transport. Motorists must not be made the scapegoats for government failure. Fuel tax should be cut, motorway speed limits raised, and hidden speed cameras should be banned. Far more must be done to encourage the development and use of cleaner fuels. ENVIRONMENT - a cleaner, greener future! Our ideal for Britain is that of a clean, beautiful country, free of pollution in all its forms. We will enforce standards to curb those practices, whether by business or the individual, which cause environmental damage. "The polluter pays to clean up the mess" must become a fact of life, not an electioneering slogan. In towns we would work to replace the brutalist modernism of 1960s-style-architecture with a blend of traditional local styles and materials and ensure that developments take place on a more human scale. FOREIGN AID - time to spend our money on our own people! We reject the idea that Britain must forever be obliged to subsidise the incompetence and corruption of Third World states by supplying them with financial aid. We will link foreign aid with our voluntary resettlement policy, whereby those nations taking significant numbers of people back to their homelands will need cash to help absorb those returning. The billions of pounds saved every year by this policy will also be reallocated to vital services in Britain. PENSIONERS - pensioners before asylum seekers! The conditions in which many of Britain's old people are forced to live are a national disgrace. We are pledged to ensure that all our old folk are able to live in comfortable homes, and will restore the earnings link with pensions. Elderly people who have paid a lifetime of taxes and reared families should not have to sell their homes to pay for care. NORTHERN IRELAND - an end to sectarianism! Britain has shamefully allowed the terrorists in N.I. to come close to winning when the IRA could have been destroyed years ago. Government weakness has led to hundreds of deaths and given those same terrorists a share in government. We would end all attempts to force the people of Northern Ireland to accept foreign interference in their affairs and deal with terrorism - from whatever side - once and for all. No one with links to a terrorist organisation that refuses to lay down its arms should be allowed to enter government. We would abolish state-supported segregation in education. In the long run, we wish to end the conflict in Ireland by welcoming Eire as well as Ulster as equal partners in a federation of the nations of the British Isles. DEFENCE - no more cuts! Successive cuts in defence spending have left Britain's armed forces perilously weak. We will boost Britain's armed forces to ensure that they are able to deal with any emergency, and defend our homeland and our independence. We will bring our troops back from Germany and withdraw from NATO, since recent political developments make both commitments obsolete. We will close all foreign military bases on British soil, and refuse to risk British lives in meddling 'peace-keeping' missions in parts of the world where no British interests are at stake - a position of armed neutrality. We will also restore national service for our young with the option of civil or military service. FOREIGN AFFAIRS - Britain's interests first! Britain's foreign relations should be determined by the protection of our own national interest and not by our like or dislike of other nations' internal politics. We would have no quarrel with any nation that does not threaten British interests. We will maintain an independent foreign policy of our own, and not a spineless subservience to the USA, the 'international community', or any other country. DEMOCRACY - letting the people decide! The British people invented modern Parliamentary democracy. Yet in recent years the British people have been denied their democratic rights. On issue after issue, the views of the majority of British people have been ignored and overridden by a Politically Correct 'élite' which thinks it knows best. On immigration, on Capital Punishment, on the surrender of British sovereignty to the EU and in numerous other areas, democracy has been absent as Labour, Tories and Lib-Dems conspire in election after election to offer the British people no real choice on such vital issues. The BNP exists to give the British people, that choice, and thus to restore and defend the basic democratic rights we have all been denied. We favour more democracy, not less, not just at national but at regional and local level. Power should be devolved to the lowest level possible so that local communities can make decisions which affect them. We will remove legal curbs on freedom of speech imposed by successive Governments over the last 40 years. We will implement a Bill of Rights guaranteeing fundamental freedoms to the British people. We will ensure that ordinary British people have real democratic power over their own lives and that Government, local and national, is truly accountable to the people who sorry for the first paragraph but i had to write it in a bit of a text language because they only give me so many letters for the opening question also the rest is the BNP policies i cut it and paste it off theyr website agains sorry about the spelling in the question also one more thing this is a question of a matter of your opinions, and only your opinions
do you agree with this independence policy? Independence Independence means the creation of an English Parliament having full sovereignty over her own affairs and the right to choose her own system of government. The English Parliament will be formed from the current British Parliament at Westminster, but with the removal of all non-English based MPs. Independence would give England the same rights and the same responsibilities as other nations. It would give us a voice on the world stage and a say in international bodies like the UN and G8. With an English government, independence would also bring greater freedoms for individuals, families and communities within a society built on common interests. An independent nation state of England would unite her people; give them a country of their own, and a country to be proud of. A Modern Democracy. The FREE ENGLAND PARTY wants England to have what other countries take for granted – the freedom to decide what kind of society we want to live in and how we want to interact with the world around us. As individuals, we value our own independence. We accept that it is entirely natural to make our own decisions, to earn and spend our own money, and to take responsibility for our own lives. Why should we settle for anything less for our country? As a nation, we accept the independence of other countries as normal. We do not think it strange that the people of Australia and The United States run their own affairs. We would not expect the people of New Zealand or Canada to ask another nation to take decisions for them. Why should the people of England be any different? Most of us also want our communities to have more freedoms. We want to have a greater say in deciding how our public services should be funded and delivered, we want to participate in decisions which affect the environment around us and we want to contribute more to the communities we live in, but it won't happen unless we start by taking control of our country and taking decisions for ourselves. The Present The British government has control of crucial areas like employment, the health service, education, the economy, taxation, benefits, pensions, transport, immigration and asylum, defence, international affairs, and everything else to do with England. There are MPs from other nations that are controlling these powers, and increasingly, these areas are being handed over to the European Union. Our freedoms, values and liberties are constantly being eroded by people we never elected. The FREE ENGLAND PARTY wants to see an English Parliament, rather than the UK government and the EU having these powers. This would give us equality with other nations. With independence an English Parliament would be able to take decisions on all matters that affect England. Successive British governments have caused immense damage to England and her people. Mass immigration has affected our public services and housing, the constant increases in taxation has made it harder for families to make ends meet, our soldiers have been sacrificed in illegal wars, and our justice system is inadequate. The British state has ignored the plight of the English and if we are to be a success, it needs to be ended. Our nation needs a government of the people, for the people, by the people. In other words, putting England and her people first. The 300-year old Union is no longer fit for purpose. It was never designed for the modern world. It has served its purpose and is preventing England from self-development. The FREE ENGLAND PARTY believes the nations of the United Kingdom should be equal, self-governing nations – friends and partners - free to make our own choices. Planning For Success Independence would enable England to become more successful. Many other countries have higher levels of economic growth and living standards than England. Self-government gives those nations the power to shape their country for the better. England could have this too. England possesses 3 out of 5 of the world’s top universities, 4 out of the top 10. We have the world’s largest financial centre, and we are world leaders in science and technology. These are all good achievements but we need to safeguard them. Lack of proper investment is leading to a growing lack of confidence in these areas. An independent England will ensure that our achievements are maintained and expanded on. England has no natural resources except her people, and it is in people we need to invest. Our history shows we are capable of producing men and women who have made valuable contributions to the advancement of humankind. An independent England would design policies that ensured her people reached the highest possible level of attainment. With independence, England could develop an economy based on science and technology. We could pursue economic policies designed specifically for our circumstances, to give us a stronger economy, better public services and a fairer society. England in the wor world: Independence would give England a voice on the international stage, a voice we can use to promote peace, reconciliation and fairness. The FREE ENGLAND PARTY will always uphold the rule of international law. A Free England government would co-operate with international bodies to build a better and safer world for all to live in. How will England gain her independence? England will become independent when the people of England vote for it in a democratic referendum. If a majority of those who vote in a referendum vote for independence, we would call for elections to be held to elect a new English government. What happens after Independence? Once a pro-independence vote has been taken and an English government elected, we would initiate a Council of the Isles made up of the former nations of the British state to negotiate the division of assets and liabilities. We would use international law such as the Convention of Vienna, to reach decisions. Once separated from the constraints of the UK and the EU, England would be free to pursue policies for the betterment of her people 13.2 Council of the Isles Well prior to our withdrawal from the United Kingdom, we will establish with the appropriate political parties of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and with the government of the Republic of Ireland, arrangements for the successful close cooperation of all the states of the British Isles. We propose for this purpose a consultative COUNCIL OF THE BRITISH ISLES, including the Republic of Ireland. This would be based on equal representation of each state, and would coordinate policies according to the wishes of each independent state. It would meet at a mutually convenient central location within the Isles. Representatives serving on the Council would seek areas where members could co-operate for their mutual benefit. This could include freedom of movement across borders; entitlement to health care if we fall ill in another country within the region. To also participate in common procurement schemes for defence and have a common action plan for environmental protection.

Michael Moore’s SiCKO misses facts.? SKiPO Michael Moore’s SiCKO misses facts. Michael Moore’s new movie, SiCKO, should be called “SKiPO,” since it skips over so many vital facts en route to government medicine. An engaging and surprisingly funny Moore explores a grim topic: America’s problematic health-care system. Moore effectively diagnoses one of its key ailments. HMOs and other managed-care companies often earn billions by just saying, “No” to victims of grave illnesses. Moore introduces us to real men, women, and children who this industry has failed. Bankrupted by cancer- and coronary-related medical bills, Donna and Larry Smith move into their grown daughter’s home storage room. An Oregon man accidentally saws off two fingertips and must re-construct either his middle finger for $60,000 or his ring finger for only $12,000. Tracy Pierce waits for his insurer to approve a promising bone-marrow transplant to treat his kidney disease. The company refuses, and he soon dies, widowing his bride, Julie, and leaving Tracy Jr., 13, fatherless. These are the bitter fruits of America’s private, third-party-payer system. Not quite socialist, not quite capitalist, it creates endless distortions as review boards and other gatekeepers essentially hide doctors from patients. Moore and other universal-health advocates would exacerbate this problem by making Uncle Sam the ultimate third-party payer. While promoting this prescription, Moore overlooks many facts that would balance his otherwise well-crafted film. For now, its leftward tilt makes the Leaning Tower of Pisa look like the Washington Monument. Milton Friedman observed, “There is no such thing as a free lunch.” Sadly, there’s no such thing as free health care, either. Universal health care’s finances must come from somewhere. “Somewhere” turns out to be taxpayers’ pockets. Britons, Canadians, and Frenchmen purchase their “free” coverage through their taxes. In America, 44.7 percent of health expenditures came from tax-funded government spending in 2004, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In Canada, that figure was 69.8 percent; while in France it was 78.4. Fully 86.3 percent of British health spending was taxpayer-funded. These countries also endure high overall tax burdens, largely due to government medicine. In 2005, OECD reports, taxes as a share of GDP stood at 41.2 percent in Canada, 41.9 percent in Britain, and 50.9 percent in France. America has it relatively easy, with just 31.7 percent of GDP devoured by taxes. Of course, for many Americans, the trade off is lower taxes vs. higher payments for health insurance. This cost varies according to employment contracts, health circumstances, and more. Still, “free” medicine is as beautiful and realistic as a unicorn. Moore claims 50 million Americans lack health insurance. The Moving Picture Institute’s Stuart Browning challenges that oft-repeated “fact.” In a case of dueling documentaries, Browning’s nine-minute film, Uninsured in America, deconstructs the more common “45 million uninsured” soundbite and finds that 9 million of these people earn over $75,000 annually and can buy coverage but don’t. Some 18 million are healthy, 18-34-year-old “young invincibles” whose priorities exclude insurance. “If I’m out eating, I want to eat good food,” Faye Chao, 26 and uninsured, told Browning. “There’ve been times I’ve been in New York, and I’m spending at least $800 a month just going out.” These Americans also turn to local clinics for treatment when necessary. For instance, Chandra Nalaani, 27 and uninsured, visited San Francisco’s Lyon-Martin Women’s Health Services. “I got an annual exam,” Nalaani said. “They tested me for a bunch of things…In my case, because I wasn’t making much, it was free.” Of the uninsured, 14 million fail to enroll in Medicaid and other low-income health programs for which they are eligible. Even if these numbers somewhat overlap, Browning estimates that just eight million Americans chronically lack coverage. Moore’s 50-million-man standing army of the uninsured thus is a Potemkin force. While Moore glows like a Jack-O-Lantern about the wonders of the British National Health Service, Gordon Brown sees massive room for improvement. Just days before becoming Great Britain’s brand-new Prime Minister, Brown told Labour Party colleagues on June 24: From everything I have seen going around the country, and from everything I’ve heard, we need to do better, and the NHS will be my immediate priority. We need to and will do better at insuring access for patients at the hours that suit them. We’ll be better at getting basics of good hygiene and cleanliness right. Better also at helping people to manage their own health. Better at ensuring patients are treated with dignity at all times in the NHS. Better at providing the wider range of services now needed by a growing elderly population. And while implementing our essential reforms, better at listening to and valuing our staff. Moore’s insinuation aside, HMOs are not solely the brainchild of that oft-flogged bete noir, Richard Milhous Nixon. In fact, the HMO Act of 1973’s sponsor was none other than Senator Edward Moore Kennedy (D., Mass.). In 1978, as the Institute for Health Freedom recalled, Kennedy sang HMOs’ praises: As the author of the first HMO bill ever to pass the Senate, I find this spreading support for HMOs truly gratifying…HMOs have proven themselves again and again to be effective and efficient mechanisms for delivering health care of the highest quality. HMOphobes, including today’s Ted Kennedy, somehow fail to mention that HMOs once were the Left’s answer to America’s earlier medical challenges. SiCKO dramatically features a man stitching shut a deep cut on his own leg. Though he lacked insurance, this was unnecessary. “Every American hospital is required to provide emergency care to all comers, regardless of ability to pay,” says Cato Institute healthcare analyst Michael Cannon. The 1986 federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act makes such services mandatory for anyone arriving within 250 yards of a U.S. emergency room. Thus, a trauma surgeon would have sutured this man’s wound. Yes, the hospital either would have absorbed this procedure’s cost or spread it across the bills of the insured (another cause of medical inflation). These cross-subsidies notwithstanding, he would have received professional treatment. Moore shows Michiganders driving into Canada for “free” medical attention. What he leaves unseen are the Canadians who come to America for treatment. Canada, along with only Cuba and North Korea, forbids its citizens from paying doctors for private medical treatment. In a kind of therapeutic Underground Railroad, Vancouver’s Timely Medical Alternatives, Inc. helps Canadians avoid lengthy medical waiting lists by arranging for their treatment in American hospitals. It says its clients can be operated on within seven days through its U.S. partners rather than six to ten months under Canadian government medicine. “Five or six years ago, seven out of ten Canadian provinces, representing roughly 95 percent of the population, had contracts with American companies for cancer care provided in the United States,” says the Manhattan Institute’s Dr. David Gratzer, a Toronto physician. “Today, some patients from over-subscribed Canadian urban medical centers are sent eight hours away to underused rural medical facilities for cancer care, much like someone going from Manhattan to Buffalo for chemotherapy.” Another drawback of high-tax-funded “free” government medicine is its limited modern technology. Cato’s Michael Cannon and Michael Tanner found that in 2000, there were 13.6 CT Scanners in America per million people. There were 8.2 million such devices per million Canadians and 6.5 per million Britons. Lithotriptors use sound waves to pulverize kidney stones and gall stones. While America had 1.5 of them per-million citizens, Canada and Britain had, respectively, 0.4 and 0.2. The paucity of such equipment creates lines and delays. Vancouver’s Fraser Institute estimated a median wait in 2006 of 4.3 weeks for a CT scan and 10.3 weeks for an MRI. SiCKO’s most revealing footage captures Moore’s pilgrimage to Karl Marx’s grave in London’s Highgate Cemetery. Single-payer countries “live in a world of ‘we,’ not ‘me,’” Moore says. “We’ll never fix anything until we get that one basic thing right.” Moore deserves credit for being so amazingly candid about his ideas’ truly socialist roots. Still, a major conundrum haunts this clamor for the kind of government medicine that would make Marx misty. While workers theoretically would own the means of medication under universal care, in reality, politicians would be in charge. The same liberals who denounce FEMA and Walter Reed Army Medical Center (a single-payer showcase) for their embarrassing incompetence want Uncle Sam to conduct bypass surgeries, deliver babies, and perform vasectomies. How puzzling. America has just one federal government. Sometimes the sensitive, caring, weepy Democrats run things; Sometimes the cold, racist, iron-hearted Republicans rule. Universal health care would mean that American medicine — from the Left’s perspective — now would be in the scheming hands of those who “lied us into war” and gleefully drowned poor blacks in New Orleans’ attics after Katrina. If Hillary Clinton had nationalized health care in 1993, American hospitals and clinics would be controlled today by Dr. Dick “Double-Barrel” Cheney and his boss, Chimpy McHitler, M.D. If that doesn’t shiver the timbers of government-medicine supporters, they should visualize Dr. Rudy Giuliani with a scalpel in one hand and the universal health-care budget in the other. Unless America scraps elections and simply yields power permanently to bleeding-heart Democrats, Michael Moore’s fans should remember that every two to four years, universal health care could fall into the clutches of cruel Republicans. Government-medicine boosters could rue the day their collectivist dream came true.
Why do we allow illegal aliens to vote? Testimony of Dan Stein President Federation for American Immigration Reform Presented to the HOUSE COMMITTEE ON ADMINISTRATION Thursday, June 22, 2006 This testimony concerns the issue of non-citizen voting in U.S. elections and identification requirements. Mr. Chairman, Madam Ranking Minority Member and members of the Committee, I am Dan Stein, President of the Federation for American Immigration Reform. FAIR is a national, non-profit public interest organization representing more than 200,000 members and activists working to end illegal immigration, to restore moderate legal immigration and to reform our immigration laws to bring them into accord with the national interest. Thank you for the opportunity to present the views of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) on the growing threat that our nation's voting laws are becoming compromised by illegal alien registration and voting. There is widespread awareness that illegal immigration is a massive and growing problem in the United States. Estimates of the illegal population vary between 11 and 20 million. FAIR believes there are likely between 11 to 13 million illegal residents, but the number could certainly be higher. In addition to the illegal aliens already in the country, the Census Bureau estimates that the illegal alien population is growing by a minimum of 500,000 per year. Combining the number of legal and illegal aliens, there are at least 26 million non-U.S. citizens in the United States at any given time. The bulk of them are legal and illegal residents (22 million), and about 1.6 million are tourists or temporary visitors from Canada or Mexico. Many of the remaining 2.4 million visitors, such as students and temporary workers, are on long-term visas. As we all know, there is a great demand in our society by anyone of working age to have a driver's license. States have established a wide spectrum of laws governing the issuance of those licenses. While some require and verify evidence that an applicant is either a U.S. citizen or a foreigner in the country legally, other states deliberately or inadvertently create loopholes that allow illegal aliens to gain access to a license or identity card. Seven states allow registrants to use an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) in lieu of a Social Security number (SSN) when they register. The ITIN is available to noncitizens, including illegal aliens for purposes of tax withholding. Another 11 states have provisions that allow illegal aliens to obtain driver's licenses, such as neglecting to verify the authenticity of the SSN. With the passage of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA) ? known as the Motor-Voter law ? the process of registering to vote became nearly automatic for anyone applying for a state driver's license. Under this law, the information supplied by the applicant for a license doubles as information for voter registration unless the applicant indicates that he/she does not want to be registered to vote. With driver's licenses made available by several states to aliens (both legal and illegal), it seems likely that voter rolls now contain large numbers of non-citizens ? enough in close elections to change the outcome if those aliens illegally vote. Two other offshoots from the 1993 NVRA compound the potential for non-citizen voting to corrupt the election process. Absentee voting has become ubiquitous, so there is no opportunity for the elections officials to challenge the voter in person as a possible illegal voter or to monitor the voting to assure that the voter is voting independently. And, those who would challenge the eligibility of voters are constrained by protections against intimidation of voters. In 1996, Congress enacted the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, making it a federal crime for non-citizens to vote in any federal election (or state election, unless authorized by state law). As a penalty, ineligible non-citizens who knowingly vote may be deported. Additionally, a non-citizen who falsely claims to be a United States citizen is in violation of this law. Despite these penalties, there are numerous documented reports of non-citizens voting. Mr. Chairman, let me discuss some of the evidence of electoral fraud. 1996 Election - California One of the most extensively documented cases of illegal voting was in California in 1996. Loretta Sanchez, a Democrat, defeated Republican incumbent Robert Dornan by 984 votes. Dornan called for an investigation of alleged illegal voting by noncitizens. According to Congressional Quarterly, a Washington, DC newspaper that focuses on developments in Congress, "Task force Chairman [U.S. Representative] Vernon J. Ehlers, R-Mich., said investigators had found concrete evidence of 748 illegal votes by noncitizens, not enough to throw Sanchez's victory into doubt." 2000 Election - Florida In the 2000 election, there were 11 states carried by President Bush that had small enough winning vote margins that voting by noncitizens could have tipped the results to Vice President Gore. Those states were Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. A switch of three votes in the Electoral College from Bush to Gore would have reversed the outcome of that election, so the voting of enough noncitizens to reverse the outcome in any one of those 11 states would have reversed the final outcome. In Florida, with more than 1.5 million noncitizens of voting age, only 540 of them would have had to vote (or 540 more ineligible voters than may actually have voted) for Gore to reverse the Presidential winner. In fact, election observers reported that a "sizable number" of votes may have been cast by ineligible felons, illegal immigrants, and non-citizens. 2004 Election - Wisconsin More recently, FAIR obtained evidence of efforts by an ethnic advocacy group to get non-citizens to register to vote. FAIR enlisted the aid of two immigration reform activists who posed as illegal aliens attempting to register to vote. They were able to register in two Wisconsin counties, with the assistance of an organization known as Voces de la Frontera, in spite of the fact that the two individuals presented themselves as noncitizens. The Wisconsin case involved the registration of non-citizens residing legally in the U.S., but it might just as easily have involved illegal residents. 2004 Investigation - New York Two years ago, DMV officials in New York, a state that supposedly does not permit illegal aliens to obtain driver's licenses, found that when they retroactively checked the Social Security Numbers provided by driver's license applicants, approximately 300,000 applications that had false or repeat numbers. This investigation did not study how many of these persons who were presumably in large measure illegal aliens fraudulently obtaining the state license also obtained at the same time registration as a voter. It seems reasonable to assume, however, that there may have been many thousands of such cases. And, while state officials began an effort to rescind the driver's licenses, there was no similar effort to eliminate any of the possible voter registrants from the voter rolls. 2005 Investigation - Utah In Utah, Legislative Auditor General John Schaff said in a February 8, 2005 report to the President of the Utah Senate that more than 58,000 illegal immigrants had Utah drivers' licenses, nearly 400 of them used their license to register to vote in Utah, and a sampling of that group revealed at least 14 actually voted in an election. The state authorities had verified with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that only 5 of those with suspicious registration to vote were naturalized U.S. citizens. Other Indications of Illegal Voter Registration Hawaiian Election officials found 543 Oahu residents who were not U.S. citizens had registered to vote. The officials speculated a number of factors may have resulted in the voter irregularities, including language barriers and the ease of voter registration. Instances are periodically reported of the discovery of illegal voting by aliens by immigration authorities during investigation of applicants for U.S. citizenship. Even though illegal voting could have made the alien ineligible for U.S. citizenship, the disqualification has been consistently waived. Therefore, the penalty in the law against illegal voting could be likened to a paper tiger. Reports periodically surface about persons who are called for jury duty on the basis of voter registration rolls declining to serve on the basis that they are non-citizens. In one prominent case earlier this year a person who did in fact serve on a jury later notified the judge that she was not a U.S. citizen. There is reason to believe that some illegal aliens applying for driver's licenses deliberately, rather than accidentally, seek voter registration. This is due to the fact that the employer sanctions law adopted in 1986 to deter employment of illegal aliens allows a voter registration card to be used as one of the documents that establishes the employee's identity. That document, plus a Social Security card, is all that is necessary to establish work eligibility. Thus, the fact that some non-citizens register to vote is not necessarily a harmless misunderstanding of the rules, as immigrants' rights groups contend. The only control against noncitizens registering to vote is a required statement in the application form that the registrant is a U.S. citizen. With more than 20 million foreign-born residents who are not U.S. citizens in the country, including an estimated 11 to 13 million illegal residents, the potential for non-citizens voting is enormous given the ease of registration and lack of screening at the time of voting. That fact, combined with the razor-thin election margins of recent years suggests that there is the very real possibility that non-citizens have affected the outcomes of elections. If the United States wants to prevent fraudulent voting, procedures must be adopted to verify the eligibility of individuals when they register, and then to verify the identity of voters when they vote. There must also be a heightened dedication to prosecute those who fraudulently register and vote. If there is no real penalty for illegal voting, it is unreasonable to expect that an 'honor system' to keep ineligible persons from voting will be effective. It is worth noting, that with the passage of Proposition 200, Arizona is was the first state to implement such measures. Approximately 32 other states are considering similar legislation. Conclusion The potential for illegal immigration has grown at a rapid pace as the number of non-citizen residents - both legal and illegal - has soared and registration to vote is done without verification of U.S. citizenship. The recent wave of demonstrations around the country by aliens demanding amnesty has forcefully brought the magnitude of the problem home to the American public. The American public is also increasingly aware of the issue of voter fraud. Recent comments by California Congressional candidate Francine Busby that "you don't need papers to vote" along with the sharp criticism leveled at her in response are further indicators that the problem has a real impact. It is entirely fitting that we take time now to examine our nation's election laws and debate what reforms are necessary to secure the integrity of the franchise. Protecting our election process against fraud is vital to assuring the American public that their interest in our democratic form of government is protected. It undermines the principle of the rule of law to allow the opportunity to vote on people who are not legally entitled to have it. The size of the illegal alien population has become so large and the impediments to illegal voting are so few that this issue should no longer be ignored by this nation's policymakers http://www.fairus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=leg_testimony_june222006

is this paranoia? im 30 years old, have had a very traumatic life and have been treated badly and victimized by alot of people. i now have borderline personality disorder, anger/rage problems, ptsd, high anxiety and panic, social phobia, bad mood swings, very low self esteem..im presentley in a que for therapy. however... for along time now ive had the feeling people are talking about me, treating me different, socially ostracizing me, preventing me from having a life and achieving things, preventing me from meeting a loving partner i choose, the girl i want, preventing me from getting and achieving employment, preventing me from emigrating from the uk, which is what id seriously like to do, to canada.......all these desires i would like ive never fullfilled in my life, ive never had a girlfriend or made any friends, because of what ive been through & disorder....and worst of all i think people high up, in society, organised gangs, the media, the government are causing me to be ostracized and are preventing me from achieving my dreams and ambitions in life...like moving to austrailia or canada and are causing people to dislike me, demonize me and keep away from me... thinking about this makes me feel incredabally angry. however my psychiatrist when i asked him about this, told me it wasnt paranoia, but more a deep distrust of people because of what ive been through in life...but im worried because i do feel somethings happening where im being treated different and possibally ostracized

Is "Socialism" really so devastating as the "right wing" claims? England ( now our only ally) is considered socialist, Denmark is socialist, Norway is socialist, Japan is socialist, Canada is socialist etc. and they all rate higher on UN quality of life, life expectancy and employment rate censuses. They have cheaper (if not free) post-secondary education, cheaper oil and the list goes on. Yes socialism is devastating as pursued by the right wing agenda. Yes I am a liberal, but do share some conservative view points. However no form of government is perfect, which includes democracy, give someone too much freedom and their find a way to abuse it and harm everyone around them. I don't think I'm a socialist nor do I endorse it, but I do not fear it since socialism in other developed countries worked out pretty well.
First Nation Rights/Treaties etc. ?? I need a solid law/right/treaty etc. for First Nations in BC (or Canada) that states that they cannot be displaced from their land without compensation or unknowingly etc. Or just so that this cannot happen: Displacement of people One of the most powerful examples of communities being moved in order to create a park is the story of the Masai. About 70% of national parks and game reserves in East Africa are on Masai land (Kamuaro, 2007). The first undesirable impact of tourism was that of the extent of land lost from the Masai culture. Local and national governments took advantage of the Masai’s ignorance on the situation and robbed them of huge chunks of grazing land, putting to risk their only socio-economic livelihood. In Kenya the Masai also have not gained any economic benefits. Despite the loss of their land, employment favours better educated workers. Furthermore the investors in this area are not local and have not put profits back into local economy. In some cases game reserves can be created without informing or consulting local people, who come to find out about the situation when an eviction notice is delivered (Kamuaro, 2007). Another source of resentment is the manipulation of the local people by their government. “Eco-tourism works to create simplistic images of local people and their uses and understandings of their surroundings. Through the lens of these simplified images, officials direct policies and projects towards the local people and the local people are blamed if the projects fail” (West, 2006). Clearly tourism as a trade is not empowering the local people who make it rich and satisfying. Instead ecotourism exploits and depletes, particularly in African Masai tribes. It has to be reoriented if it is to be useful to local communities and to become sustainable (Kamuaro, 2007). I need a direct source! Thank you!!
