Can I take my time on the job in a state job with me if I take a federal job? I currently work as a state employee and am in the process to get a new job as a federal employee. Someone told me that they thought I could take my time on the job in state employment with me to the federal job. Are people "moochers" if they rely on federal/state assistance but they are completely able-bodied? I know a couple who rely heavily on charity from others. The wife doesn't work and the husband is a freelancer and they have three kids. To me, they chose for her not to work and they chose for him to freelance (he left his job). They use WIC and State/Federal funded health care for their kids. I often get a moocher attitude towards them as they do not attempt to better themselves in any way. In fact, it appears they don't want to make more money- in fear they might lose their freebies? They come off as really good people, but something about it just gets under my skin. Federal Government Attorney Jobs? I was interested in obtaining a federal gov. attorney position. I am just six months out of law school and have been working at a state gov. job since i got out. i have decent law school credentials from a lower tier school. When I put my employers codes and everything, it had their address. If you are hired for a federal position in any branch of the goverment; For your first year of employment where you are required to serve a 1 year probationary term, is it pretty much inevitable that management or other individuals will highly criticize your performance reviews, and/or illegitamately try to find ways to make it appear that you cannot do your job in an attempt to get you laid off and/or fired? I am in my first year of a federal position, and this one manager really has it out for me, even though I meet my job requirements, am never late, have not been absent once yet, am respectful polite and understanding to him, listen to what he tells me to do, and he still finds crooked ways to lower my performance reviews. He recently stated that I will be fired if I don't improve my performance within the next 5 days. I've talked to him, and he is very evasive, doesn't answer my questions directly, and continually tries to beat around the bush when I ask questions, and for help. ?
What Are Some Entry Level Federal Law Enforcement Careers? I could take a local or a state job and use that experiance and get in later, but for now I'm wondering what starting/entry level federal jobs are out there in Law Enforcement with the Feds. I already know of a handful. Probation Officer (or Probation Officer Assistant depending on district)... Postal Inspector (did hear it requires a year first in general employment with the postal service, so it's not really 'entry' level)... Border Patrol/INS (though my vision fails their standard)... Secret Service (same as above but it's closer, though I've also heard they only theoretically hire entry level, in practice they only hire those w/ experiance)... What else is there out there that allows entry level into a federal law enforcement job? (IE it has a GS rank or equivalent, and it has either/or arrest powers, firearms cert., or some form of criminal investigative authority). Marshalls and FBI are out since they only hire prior exp or Masters degree, but what about the IRS, etc? Ran out of room... I also know of the capital police in DC, but I'm looking for Fed jobs that work across the whole country not just in DC. (training there is fine, but your whole career being there to me it might as well be a local job) By entry level I also mean it requires between no education and a Bach degree (I have a Bach), and you can get hired if you have less then a year of experiance. If it requires a post-grad degree or more then 1 year job experiance, I consider that non-entry level. However if people want to add jobs that have strict vision or Masters degree requirements feel free, since other people might look here and find that stuff useful even though I don't personally. Thank you, but I was already aware of USAjobs and several other broad job search sites. I wasn't asking for sites or general info or opinions on what people think of federal law enforcement. Those may be good question or answers, but aren't dealing with my specific question here. I am only interested in actual job titles/agencies, not in search/metasearch job sites or opinions on the field as a whole. Nothing wrong with that, it's just I can already find the first on my own, and can formulate my own of the second. Thanks for the BoP one, I didn't realize that was such a good way into the Air Marshalls... the veteran affairs I looked into, but it heavily favors people w/ veterans pref. points in hiring, and I don't have those.

Why do my husband and I owe so much in federal and state taxes? We hardly make any money!? My husband and I both live and work in Kansas. We made a COMBINED $42,658 in 2007. TaxACT says that we owe $1,082 in federal taxes and $319 in state taxes. I don't understand. Would it be better if we filed separately? Before I entered any of my husband's W2s the program was stating a $609 federal tax return and a $40 state tax return. It seems that for some reason my husband was claiming 2 on state and federal for a $1285.83 W2 from a job he had for a couple weeks. Other than that we have both been claiming 1 on federal and state. we don't have any kids -yet. i'm pregnant now. should have popped it out sooner i guess. this whole situation is incredibly stressful and makes me so mad. thanks for the answers everybody. i'm not too savvy with this whole tax thing, and neither is my husband, obviously, lol. we are definitely learning from our mistakes here. we don't itemize... i just answer the questions that TaxACT asks and go with that. we don't own a house so we didn't have mortgage interest. we were renting an apartment for all of 2007. we can deduct property and state taxes through itemization? Correctional Officer Career Federal or State Level? I'm an active duty soldier with the US.ARMY my contract ends in January 2007 and I have about enough of the war serving in Iraq. I'm now looking into a correctional officer career I feel I need a mentor as I have plenty of questions...is anybody in the business? Can you share some tips? Right now I'm looking into federal prisons but it seems that those jobs are hard to find? What’s the deal with state prisons??? Taxes more state then federal? I have a part time job in which I work approximately 12 hours a week. I recieved my w2 and saw that my taxes for state were much more then federal. It seems kinda odd so I called HR and they said that I did not make enough income or worked enough hours to have a ton of federal taxes taken out. Now I owe the Federal governmen $1200.00. Question, yes the extra pay is nice every two weeks, but do you think it is worth me keeping my part time job? Since I work full time, the tax refund that I would have recieved can pay for the $1200.00 that I owe, this time. Some other infomration is my pay is approximately $100.00 every two weeks. Any thoughts, I just feel that working this part time job, although I enjoy it, I feel I am getting screwed when it comes time for tax season. The total pay was for $4700.00, only $9.02 was taken out for federal, however $70.00 was taken out for state, and like $250.00 for social security. I claim 0 and no one else can claim me.

do you feel that the state and federal government should be able to delete any e-mails concerning their job~?! i just read that besides the Whitehouse, several state government officials have been having their e-mails deleted without keeping any paper backups of the information they are supposed to keep for the public under the Freedom of Information Act~!!! some cases that have been investigated by the Grand Jury have found contacts with unlicenesed lobbyist and behind closed door illegal deals goin on, and that they say they are not accountable to keep any of that information ever since electronic communication has been accepted~!!! these computers and equipment are paid for by us, they are working for us, the info is supposed to be kept on records for the public~!!!! should we make them go back to paper records keeping if they wont play fair~??!!! what is your opinion~??!!
On Average, How Long Does The Federal Hiring Process Take? I've put applications in for several Federal job, a couple State, and one private. The private agency has already called me for an interview but the Federal jobs close this week and next week. I'm leaning towards the private job because I plan on going back to school for my PhD but I need to make some more money in the meantime, but I'd prefer to work for the gov't and the pay and job trypes are LOTS better. I'd just hate to take one job, start it, then jump ship, just to leave a year later.

Help with federal and state taxes!? My girlfriend has been offered a job making $42,000 a year. We need to know what she can expect to pay in federal, FICA, and state taxes (Virginia) to get an estimate of her bring home pay? Single, no children...Help! I lost my job 1.5 years ago, and I had to file bankruptcy in april of 2007. For the past 8 months I have been staying with a friend and working in Missouri. But my home is in PA, but been using my friends address for local employment. My question is: Do I file my federal and state taxes for Pennsylvania like I always have? If I do that, and on my PA forms, put down taxes that were paid to MO, or do I have to file MO only, and if I do that, PA will be looking for me for taxes? Or if I do the PA income tax, will MO be after me for a tax return? Also, does my bankruptcy and chapter 13 payment plan affect my tax return at all? I am in need of help. How do you feel about the following? On May First, local, county, state and federal law enforcement? officers, along with the INS, do a sweep of the protesters, ID the illegals, deport them with no chance of re-entry into the USA for 10 years. Make being here illegally a federal felony. Fines and prison time for the people who employ illegals. Then you go over the welfare rolls and you put the able-bodied people who are on welfare into the jobs the illegals were working. Never seeking any monetary damages, Frost and Kasza asked only that the Air Force be forced to disclose factual information relating to the chemical nature of hazardous waste produced at Area 51 and the methods used for its disposal. Pentagon's defense: "What Area 51?" When the suits were filed, the Pentagon still relied on claims of "military and state secrets privilege" to deny the very existence of Area 51. At trial, Air Force lawyers argued that Frost and Kasza could not have possibly inhaled non-existent smoke from non-existent hazardous waste disposed of at a non-existent Air Force base. Not fully buying the government's "What Area 51?" defense, the courts handed down judgments that satisfied almost nobody. While the plaintiffs were not allowed to find out what Frost, Kasza and other workers had been exposed to, the courts did order the EPA to conduct annual inspections of "an operating location near Groom Lake" for compliance with the RCRA and to make its findings public. Under federal law - 42 U.S.C. 6961(a) - the President of the United States can exempt "any solid waste management facility of any department, agency, or instrumentality in the executive branch from compliance with such a requirement if he determines it to be in the paramount interest of the United States to do so." Since 1998, two presidents have chosen to "do so." In 1997, a court ruled that the Air Force's exemption from hazardous waste disclosure for "an operating location near Groom Lake" had to be issued annually by the White House. President Clinton issued the first such exemption in 1998. Oh, That Area 51! The Air Force finally admitted the existence of Area 51 on April 17, 2000, when Air Force spokeswoman Gloria Cales told Associated Press reporters, "We acknowledge having an operating site there [Area 51], and the work is classified." Cales added that the work done at Area 51 involved "operations critical to the U.S. military and the country's security." Area 51 is believed to have been among several desolate dessert Air Force sites used for testing of once top-secret U.S. military aircraft, like the U-2 and SR-71 spy planes, and the F-177A stealth fighter and B-2 stealth bomber. Yet fueled by years of secrecy, the main thing to take off from Area 51 have been rumors and theories concerning "unearthly" operations going on there. Rumors of "alien toxins" blast off Nobody involved in the lawsuits ever even hinted that the substances Frost and Kasza died from were anything but good-old "Made in the USA" hazardous industrial waste. why do we expect the federal gov. to fix the every thing? why do we want the federal government to fix every thing from Katrina, flooding in the west, storm damage,school systems every thing when its not really their job. they are to keep our boarders and control what goes on between the states. which they cant do because we are making them do everything else. ever hear of insurance? I pay it every one that has something worth value pays it or they dont care enough about it. the real question is why is the federal government doling out tax money to bale out people too stupid to protect what they have. why should the working class tax payer pay for lazy stupid people that didnt care enough to insure their belongings? or bale out states that rather spend their money on parties and good times then to fix the infastructure of the state? its not the federal governments job people. the more they do the more it cost you in money and rights. dont give up your freedom for stupidity.
