Civilian Employment with Dept of the Navy? I am seeking a civilian IT job with US dept of the navy. Hopefully at US Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. Is it more than likely that I will be required to get a security clearance if I don't already have one? What if I was once turned down for the interim clearance due to having been in a therapy, and I left my employer (a private contractor in the federal gov) while my investigation was going on for a secret clearance. If by any chance, the navy considers me for clearance, I would have to tell what I did, but with a legitimate reason about having given up on going for secret clearance. Can something like that be an issue with civilian employment in the navy or any other federal government branch? Is it better that I limit myself to local government or private sector? I am currently an IT person in local government, and just that fact probably would mean that I can work in the navy if they decide to trust me with a clearance. I am kind of weary of this need for clearance in the federal government. Is getting clearance such a big obstacle? Is anyone else discourage to pursue federal employment due their issue with getting clearance?
Federal Employment(GS Job)? Hi, I'm currently in the military and plan on getting out short of the required 20 years in order to become a "GS". The questions I have are: 1) If I get a job, will I be required to move? I lived in europe and was told they have to move every 5 years, no if ands or buts. 2) I will have 13 years in the military. When I switch over to the darkside, how many more years will I have to work before I can retire? 3) How is retirement pay calculated? Same and the military such as 50% at 20 years, 75% at 30? 4) How difficult is it to get a GS job? I'm hoping my time in the military helps me with this. 5) Most important. Is it worth it over a normal civilian job? Thank you in advance. David
How do you search which degrees apply to specific employment opportunity’s? There are so many searches for what careers are in demand, wages, statistics by state, etc, but is there a way to pop in associates/bachelor of science (for example) and view all jobs which fall under those categories? I know some degrees are specialized, but say for instance you are looking for management both federal and civilian, is there a way to look these up?

Do Libertarians on this site agree with the Cato Institute's analyst of the GOP pledge to do the same old? crap they did in the past aka the “Pledge to America” ? If you are a real Libertarian you know what the Cato Institute is. Tad DeHaven is a budget analyst on federal and state budget issues for the Cato Institute. •The document immediately notes that the “lack of a credible plan” to tackle the mounting federal debt causes uncertainty for employers and investors. The problem is the GOP leadership doesn’t have a credible plan to address the debt, or at least this document doesn’t offer one. •It disingenuously promises to “cut government spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels” when in fact it only intends to do so for a small portion of the overall federal budget. The reduction would apply to discretionary, non-security spending, which only accounts for about 15 percent of total federal spending. •Not only does the GOP punt on the big-ticket programs like Social Security and Medicare, the document devotes an entire section to maintaining the interventionist foreign policy that is helping to bankrupt the country. The GOP doesn’t appear to understand that the American people are having an increasingly difficult time understanding why the government continues to take bricks out of our own economy in order to build nations around the globe. •The document says that the GOP will “root out government waste.” Waste goes with government the way peanut butter goes with jelly. Nancy Pelosi has made the same promise, which demonstrates the vacuous nature of the proposal. •The GOP says it will cut the operations budget of Congress. That’s fine, but the legislative branch’s budget is only about $5 billion. •Calling for an end to the federal government’s control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is a good idea. But that’s an easy position. They should instead be calling for an end to the government’s entire disastrous role in subsidizing homeownership. •The document calls for a freeze in federal non-security hiring. One would have thought the GOP would at least address exorbitant federal civilian employee pay. Freezing (or reducing) federal employment would take care of itself by eliminating agencies and programs, which is something the document doesn’t lay out a plan to do. •The GOP proposes to continue holding weekly votes to cut spending via its YouCut initiative. It’s a fine idea, but most of the cuts offered for consideration thus far have been relatively insignificant. For example, one of the cuts being proposed this week would “reduce funding for the wild horse and burro program to previously projected levels.” Not only would this only save $280 million over ten years, the GOP couldn’t even find the nerve to call for its outright abolition. •One piece of good news is that the GOP explicitly calls for the repeal of Obamacare. http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/gops-pledge-to-america/ http://www.cato.org/people/tad-dehaven

Ex-active duty seeking future career with federal government....? I was HONORABLY discharged about 2 years ago from active duty. My reason code on my DD-214 was personality disorder because of the depression I was experiencing at that time, due to events that occured in the military. I am now seeking employment with the Federal Government again, through DFAS, but as a civilian employee. The interview went great, but I know they need to do a background check. Will that reason code prevent me from getting this job?
Job interview: How do you handle the salary question? I'm 39 years old and served in the Air Force for my entire adult working life. I retired and am now entering the wonderful world of civilian employment. While applying with one federal agency, I was asked what pay I was hoping to get. This is not a common question in federal agencies, but this one has some discretion. It seemed kind of premature to talk numbers without an offer. I just said "should you select me, I'm sure you'll take my qualifications and work history into account and make a fair offer." Very positive interview -- we'll see. I had to wing this unexpected question, but what do you experienced folks in Civilianland do when this issue comes up?

Is This What We Have To Look Forwarded To? Scary Food for thought. Forward to all thinking Americans. This is long, but enlightening. Lest you think it was written by some right-wing kook, David Kaiser is a respected historian whose published works have covered a broad range of topics, from European Warfare to American League Baseball. Born in 1947, the son of a diplomat, Kaiser spent his childhood in three capital cities: Washington D.C., Albany, New York, and Dakar, Senegal. He attended Harvard University, graduating there in 1969 with a B.A. in history. He then spent several years more at Harvard, gaining a PhD in history, which he obtained in 1976. He served > in the Army Reserve from 1970 to 1976. He is a professor in the Strategy and Policy Department of the United States Naval War College and has previously taught at Carnegie Mellon, Williams College and Harvard University. Kaiser's latest book, The Road to Dallas, about the Kennedy assassination, was just published by Harvard University Press. Dr. David Kaiser "My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." - Barack Obama History Unfolding I am a student of history. Professionally, I have written 15 books on history that have been published in six languages, and I have studied history all my life. I have come to think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is simply a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus. Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it.. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten to fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two. We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why? We learned just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has "loaned" two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the $700 billion we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of "we the people," who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not. We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why? We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why? We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it simply wants marriage to remain defined as between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?) We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose? Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government. Our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and I know precisely what I am talking about) - the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth.. It is potentially 1929 x ten... And we are at war with an enemy we cannot even name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who, in turn, cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so. And finally, we have elected a man that no one really knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska . All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh, of course. The media would never p

WHY is facial hair unprofessional? I just spent 12 years in the military and now I am crossing over into a Federal Correctional Officer position. I am 30 years old and NEVER understood the clean shaven grooming standards of men in "society". A mustache is okay, but beard/goatee (even lightly trimmed) is UNPROFESSIONAL? I dont get it, never have. My father is insistent upon a clean shaven face (although he wears a mustache) and he constantly harrasses me about shaving it. However, a goatee very much compliments me according to girlfriend (she loves it), friends, peers, and so on. Even my father says it looks good, but it is just unprofessional because that is they way it is. PLEASE. I mean, I have sat in on promotion boards for civilian counterparts, and facial hair was NEVER a determination on MY part to refuse employment or judge a mans professionalism. Am I the only one? This is highly outdated and firmly trivial. Abe Lincoln, Frederick Douglas? Were these men "unprofessional"? I could name many more. I put personal hygiene (hair and clothes washed and clean) and performance record on the top of the list. I mean, would you deny employment to the most capable, educated, and efficient individual simply because he has, OMG, wait for it....NATURALLY GROWING FACIAL HAIR? Stop the press. I just dont get it and it is an outdated, trivial, oppressive standard I never agreed with.

Could I be refused a loan because of this? Hello, I am currently in the process of refinancing my home. The mortgage company (Stonegate) has already done the appraisal and all my paperwork has been signed and submitted. Yesterday the agent assisting me had me sign a form which will release my last two years tax returns...I guess to verify my bank statement and employment history? My question is this...I work in Iraq as a Department of Defense civilian and we have the same status as deployed military personnel. Can my loan be refused since I do not pay federal income taxes (wages under $91,500 are exempt from taxes by submitting form 2555) Bank of America would not even give me a good faith estimate because of this and I was later told they are not permitted to deny me because I am deployed military status..but, maybe someone knows better? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Can somebody please read my paragraph for history & tell me if it is what the question is asking? Here is the question I was asked: The New Deal changed government's role in aiding our nation's needs. Explain how this Relief Recovery and Reform program, initiated by Roosevelt, sought to help thew nation recover from the difficulties of the Great Depression. Here is the paragraph I wrote to answer the question: President Roosevelt helped the nation recover from the difficulties of the Great Depression by promising "a new deal for the Americans." Roosevelt created many Agencies to free the Americana's from depression. FOr example, he provided the civilian conservation corps (CCC),which provided jobs for the young, unmarred men, to work on conservation and resource development projects. He also provided adaptions, disability payments and um employment benefits called the Social Security Administration (SSA). Roosevelt insured bank deposits up to 2,500 in the Federal Deposit insurance corporation (FDIC).Slowly, Roosevelt was beginning the American out of the depression and into freedom
Is it time to call a National Strike over a Referendum on Europe? The EU Plan to ‘Destroy Britain’ Within seven-years you will need a permit to cook a meal or to take a bath. Watching TV will be limited by rota. Employment will reach 45% of the population and al our power and food will be imported from Europe The reason: By order of the EU Britain must close 17 power stations - 40% of our electricity generating capacity. We will be force to go cap in hand to our ‘Partners’ in Europe, to by power at whatever price they demand. Without electricity our entire economy will collapse – why? Outraged by Britain’s continued resistance to a Federal State of Europe, and aided and abetted by British traitors who deride our history and have nothing but contempt for its traditions, the decision to divide Britain into three separate regions each dominated by fiercely pro-EU federalists has been made. Britons are to be denied the right to vote. However, aware that these plans will result in a massive surge of support for UKIP, the BNP and other nationalist parties, with the distinct possibility that they could win enough support to overturn and even withdraw from the EU completely, the plotters developed a policy to destroy Britain’s self-sufficing ability in, agriculture and energy creation. According to the Stalinists handbook to disenfranchise a nation you must remove or decry those elements recognised as being identified as national traits. In our case: Post Offices, Red telephone Boxes, Bobby’s on the Beat, Equality under the Law, Freedom of thought and speech. You then impose restrictions of freedom of action in the name of public safety; disciplining the public for minor transgressions and flooding the nation with immigrants in an attempt to cause the destabisation of the very infrastructure of the nation. Hopefully this will lead to riots and thus justify the introduction of military law. You must also recruit civilian spies to report minor transgressions and as we now know, ‘essential legislation to combat terrorism’, was in reality introduced to give local councils the powers to delve into the private lives of the electorate. Farmers are being paid not to grow crops or to grow crops for alternative fuels like bio-diesel, which are less environmental friendly than diesel oil. The whole scam of climate change has been shamelessly promoted to justify draconian government control over us. Recently, the Minister of Agriculture, Hilary Benn, decided to test public reaction to energy permits by advocated issuing carbon trading permits to all of us wishing to buy fuel. This scam is being actively promoted in the USA as a means of gaining control over American’s lifestyles. Foolish because it will cost billions of dollars to implement, make trillions of dollars for governments and speculators, like the liar Al Gore, and not make one iota of difference to climate change. Correction, that’s not quite true, man-made CO2 does add to global temperatures by two or three trillionth’s of a degree centigrade. And to obtain this prize of glittering absurdity, economies will be ruined and millions of people will starve to death, which fits nicely with the green zealots ideal solution to global warming the reduction of the human population. How much longer must we tolerate this blatant abuse of power by our own government acting against the public interest? Is there nothing we can do? Yes, I do believe that you and I can put an end to this treachery by demonstrating our anger. It’s time to show our politicians that we are in charge of our destiny and not them. I therefore propose; ‘A Right To Vote On Europe' - National two-hour strike between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 10.00.a.m. on Monday 7th July 2008. With the threat of repeatedly bringing the country to a standstill until Gordon Brown gives us our right to vote in a referendum on Europe. Either we assert our right to be self- governing - or we lose it for ever. Tonyb.
What do you think about this article? This professor has hit a bullseye with this.... History Unfolding I am a student of history. Something of historic proportions is happening.. Yours and mine.. And finally, we have elected a man that no one really knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla , Alaska . The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe is more important.) Mr. Obama's winning platform can be boiled down to one word: Change. Why? I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now. This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life.. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again. And that is only the beginning.. As a serious student of history, I thought I would never come to experience what the ordinary, moral German must have felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the "savior" was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they should have known was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory. Conservative "losers" read it right now. And there were the promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and frowned and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his "brown shirts" would bully and beat them into submission. Which they did - regularly. And then, he was duly elected to office, while a full-throttled economic crisis bloomed at hand - the Great Depression. Slowly, but surely he seized the controls of government power, person by person, department by department, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The children of German citizens were at first, encouraged to join a Youth Movement in his name where they were taught exactly what to think. Later, they were required to do so. No Jews of course, How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun contro As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.. I choose to believe the evidence. No doubt some people will scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. To some degree, perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe-and why I believe it. I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am. Perhaps the only hope is our vote in the next elections. David Kaiser Jamestown , Rhode Island United States health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe , and across the world. He did it with a compliant media - did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and ...... .. .. change. And the people surely got what they voted for If you think I am exaggerating, look it up. It's all there in the history books.. So read your history books. Many people of conscience objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and ridiculed. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though. And the world came to regret that he was not listened to.
