Reprisals at Federal employment, regulatory agencies (Federal) will not stopping it. Where to go next? I have been subjected to numerous Reprisals at my Federal employment for my filing a Workmens Compensation/Family Medical Leave Act claims. None of the Federal regulatory agencies will assist in stopping these actions that violate the Federal Employee Labor Manual (ELM), our collective bargaining agreement (aka "contract"), and several Federal Laws (some with "criminal punishment" possible). Where to go next for help?

How can I get no cost help stopping post bankruptcy State and Federal employment tax demands? We closed a small dollar stor in 2003 and finalized personal bankruptcy in early 2004. We made a lot of mistakes but tried to pay what we understood after we could not afford an accountant. The questions stem from a 2 and and 3rd quarter employment and unemployment taxes. We have records to show we filed and paid during those periods. But IRS says we had a higher payroll. we showed them what we paid employees and and they come up witha new ammount of tax owed each time we talk. State of Michigan showed a zero balence then changed it to $1400 plus 500 penalties

Question on federal law enforcement employment eligibility? When I was 19 years old, I wanted to find what it was like to have sex. I made arrangements with an escort, and we had sex. I understand that this constitutes prostitution. Does this bar me from federal law enforcement? My record is clean, but I am aware that there is a polygraph exam. Of course I will be forthright and completely truthful, but I just want to be prepared if this incident is a big deal. That way I know not to put all my eggs in one basket. Thanks.
Help breaking into federal employment? Hi, Over the last 3 months, I've applied to no less than 10 federal employment announcements. With some of them, I was clearly qualified and some even overqualified. Yet, I'm being constantly overlooked in this process. I have no prior federal or military experience. But I do have experience and education. My scores are mid to high 90s. I understand that veterans and current/former federal employees get additional points and or preference, but they would have to score 90+ before the 5 to 10 points to beat my score. I'd like some information on how to increase my score. What am I doing wrong? I want to add that I am applying for GS 05-09 positions. I did a bunch of reading today after posting this and decided to contact the person listed on the last job announcement for which I applied. She told me that for the most part, I'm being outranked by veterans. I suspected this based on my scores and some reading that I've done but I just wasn't sure. She told me that even veterans call them upset and frustrated. They compete against the public and then against each other. She did let me know the fact that I don't rank high enough is good in its own way. Never once was I told that I don't qualify or meet eligibility requirements. That gives me little comfort but at least I have an answer. I was encouraged to keep applying. I'm not sure if I will since there will always be veterans jockeying for the same jobs. I'll never get hired at that rate. Thanks for the answers. If anyone has anything to add, please jump in.

If I win 55k from a lottery, How much will I take home after federal, state, and self-employment taxes? A friend wants to know how much He will keep if he wins $55,000 in the lottery. He also likes gambling and says that the 40% rule should hold true for lottery winnings as well. That is, that if you are honest and pay taxes on gambling income, you should save about 40% of it. Is this true? By the way, He lives in North Carolina and that income would possibly bring his makings for the year to 70-80k (tax bracket information).

Federal Employment earned leave rate? I retired from the military last year. I do not have a disability, and was not in the middle east during active duty. I now have a job with the federal government and I'm earning 4 hours of annual leave per pay period. I was reading the manuals and I think this is correct. People I work with are telling me I should be earning more leave, but I didn't discharge, I retired. Does anyone know for sure if 4 hours is correct? I only have six months in the job. Thanks.

Those of you with federal government jobs: How long did the hiring process take? The federal government is notorious for having a very long and drawn out hiring process. It isn't uncommon for a person to apply for a job in January and not hear anything until May or June. After submitting a resume through USAjobs, filling out the occupational questionnaire, making the selection list and participating in a second interview how long does it usually take after this interview for the government to reach a hiring decision? Would you share some of the experiences you have had with federal government employment? I'm specifically concerned about FCIP (federal career intern position) programs
A question from a textbook on Federal Employment and State Unemployent Taxes? On a Hourly Employee Payroll Register their is a catagory for Taxable Eearnings that FUTA/SUTA falls into. On payroll sheet one of the Employees gross pay is $1302.90. The problem is stucture as follows: FUTA Tax(6.2%)--Normal FUTA tax credit(5.4%)=0.8%.OR, 6.2%--5.4%=.0.8% FUTA tax rate. So $1,302.90 X 0.8%=$10.42. SUTA tax rate would appear as follows $1,302.90 taxable earnings X 5.4% = Suta tax rate =$70.36. This is all based on a wage limit of $7,000. The equation is as follows: Taxable Earnings, FUTA/SUTA = Gross Current Earnings<FUTA/SUTA A Limit of $7,000. The answer under taxable earnings (FUTA/SUTA) would be $1,302.90. The same as the employees gross pay. How can I begin to figure out this involved problem?

Federal Employment(GS Job)? Hi, I'm currently in the military and plan on getting out short of the required 20 years in order to become a "GS". The questions I have are: 1) If I get a job, will I be required to move? I lived in europe and was told they have to move every 5 years, no if ands or buts. 2) I will have 13 years in the military. When I switch over to the darkside, how many more years will I have to work before I can retire? 3) How is retirement pay calculated? Same and the military such as 50% at 20 years, 75% at 30? 4) How difficult is it to get a GS job? I'm hoping my time in the military helps me with this. 5) Most important. Is it worth it over a normal civilian job? Thank you in advance. David

illegal immigration, employment contracts, and non compete clause? last year as a senior executive in a company, i discovered they were in violation of state labor laws and federal employment laws, hiring illegal immigrants and providing undocumented workers with false documents so they could work under various names (avoiding over time). i moved to stop the practice and was told it was the "only way" for the company to do business at the time. i resigned my position rather than jeopardize myself. my question is, because they were in violation of laws, is my employment contract's non-compete still in effect?

Question about Federal/State law enforcement careers? Hi everyone, i'm new on yahoo! answers, so ill try to be as quick as possible. I'm a college freshman studying criminology/international relations. Though I have a few years, my main career interests are either State Police (NJ), or something in the Federal Government. Some may be able to answer some of my questions and not be able to with the other, answer what you can. 1. What chances does a recent college graduate have at getting into the State Police Academy? I understand it is pretty competitive, but some do try. (I have been on the website and know the MINIMUM requirements) 2. What would be more helpful to me in getting Federal Employment? Stuyding abroad in the Dubai , focusing on Middle Eastern Affairs (includes Arabic classes), or spending a semester interning in DC through the Washington Center with some agency? I appreciate any help anybody can offer.
Is it reasonable to jump from "DS9" in local Washington D.C. gov to "GS12" in Federal government? Let's suppose I'm an employee of the District of Columbia. That's local, not federal employment. With regard to a jump from a city DS 9 to a Federal GS 12: I believe I have more than ample experience as my city rating was set artificially low when I began -- yes, I took it because it offered a lot of opportunities for experience... hence my confidence in qualifying for a similar, but MUCH higher-paying job directly with Uncle Sam. Do the feds (non-military) calibrate D.C. city positions to a particular grade value within their system? How do they regard salary when the advertised Federal position represents a jump of nearly 80% over the applicant's previous local position.

I was just denied employment b/c of a form of arthritis. Can an employer (FED) deny you on possible symptoms? I have a arthritis cond. I had my dr fill out their form and my outlook is excellent as stated. I still got denied employment (federal) just b/c I have this condition. I guess of the possibility it may get bad, is this discrimination? You can't not hire someone just b/c they have a disease! I could understand if I was in pain or not mobile but I am healthier than most people without this! My doctor even thought it was rediculous! It's kind of like not hiring someone who got over cancer b/c it MAY come back. Not fair. Any thoughts? I went to their Dr. who stated that I did have limited ROM in one area. They then sent paperwork to my Dr. who did a complete physical, and another ROM test to their standard and confirmed everything was normal. Signed and dated. So they can't say it's b/c of my ROM b/c I passed a physical and a ROM test! How frustrating. Just b/c god chose me to have this disease-which is fine, I can handle it through treatment but to get denied makes me feel like I'm incapeable when I'm not at all. Thanks guys! Thank you nana but how can they discharge him on just a possibility? That is discrimination if you ask me. This job does have particular things I had to pass as far as ROM, but I passed them all with no problem, and my doctor filled out their required paperwork stating so.. So how can you disqualify someone on a posibility?
