How do you think that the immigration problem should be solved by our government? In what area of the USA do you live? Are you for a total amnesty? Why or Why not? Are you for the guest-worker idea? Why do you think our government hasn't done anything about this in the past? How do you feel we would fare if all illegals were deported at once? How would you feel if meat and produce doubled in price overnight due to the shortage of low-paid packers and harvesters? How do you feel about Mexico's inability to create decent jobs for their own citizens? When my father was a high-school student in mid-Ohio back in the 50's, there was a year when the mexican migrant workers couldn't get up there to harvest the annual tomato crop. All the American (white in that town) students had to take a week off of school to harvest the tomato crop. That was just for a week...how will we handle this in 2007 if it happens? Would the students still do it for free? Just a thought. I am also against any amnesties. They shouldn't be rewarded for coming here illegally. Illegals have been paying into social security and federal income taxes for years, and never ask for that money back, because they never file tax returns. They use WIC and public assistance, but our government knows that what they use is much less than what we have made off them in commerce, traffic tickets, and unclaimed tax returns. I believe in a guest worker program, only and ONLY if our govt fingerprints every one of the immigrants, then monitors that information. Right now, we have millions here with no identification. They get deported, then come back with a new name. We have to let the police take illegals in and get them deported. Right now, police have no jurisdiction over illegals. After everyone is fingerprinted, if they don't have documentation or fingerprint record, they have to go back home immediately. My husband is a legal resident, and we paid lots of money and used years to get that. LEGALLY. People shouldn't be rewarded for breaking our laws.
Do you agree with the Ohio Job Preservation Act? Should more states require bills like this to protect citizens having jobs? With more and more states passing such bills, does this not tell obama and our gov. that citizens want something done about illegals in this country? Immigration bill would require employers to check Social Security numbers against E-Verify Updated 1:43 AM Friday, May 15, 2009 HAMILTON — A bill that would require employers to check the Social Security numbers of new employees to assure they are in the country legally is all about giving jobs to Americans and taking away a paycheck from illegal immigrants during tough economic times, said state Rep. Courtney Combs, R-Hamilton. Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones said the bill also is about giving law enforcement more teeth to stop illegal immigrants with fake documents because the United States is where the jobs are. The Ohio Job Preservation Act was announced Thursday, May 14, by the lawmaker and crime fighter during a joint news conference. It would require all public and private employers to check Social Security numbers against the federal government’s free E-Verify system before hiring someone. There are two key parts to the proposed bill, said Jones, a longtime proponent of immigration reform. “One is jobs. The economy is in the toilet and we are losing jobs out of this country,” the sheriff said. Kenny Craig, president and CEO of the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, said he has not yet seen legislation, but said the chamber encourages members to follow the law. A few questions must be answered before the Middletown area business community can support proposed legislation, said Bill Triick, president and CEO of The Chamber of Commerce serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton. Those include “specifically what is going to be required of the employer including the amount of time, out-of-pocket costs and if there is a delay period for verification,” he said. Jones said the legislation would make it very costly to knowingly hire illegal immigrants. “Fines will be pretty enormous. Maybe millions, maybe losing their businesses or going to jail,” the sheriff said. “Right now they (business owners) can afford to pay their little fine and go on with business,” he said. Combs said, “We believe this will provide jobs for Americans. We want to curb the foreign lawbreakers who come here to take the jobs. We are after the lawbreakers; if you are here legally we are not after you.” Combs said he plans to introduce the legislation next week. He added people used to say illegal immigrants were doing jobs Americans would not do, but today Americans are standing in line for any job. “We want to help provide jobs that are definitely needed today for legal citizens of the United States.” Combs said. Officer Paul Callahan, Columbus Police Department, which currently has a program with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency for illegal immigrants in central Ohio, joined Jones and Combs for the announcement of the legislation saying, “it is going to keep our towns and cities much safer.” Callahan said often illegal immigrants will return even after deportation with more fake documents because the United States is where the jobs are. “This addresses some of the incentives for these illegal immigrants to come here,” the officer said. Jones noted, “Basically it comes down to why they are here, jobs, jobs, jobs.” Specifics of the proposed Ohio Job Integrity Preservation Act will: — Require public and private employers to register with a federal status verification system, such as E-Verity, to assist with verifying the identity of new employees. E-Verify is a fast, inexpensive Web-based system run by the Department of Homeland Security. Currently 15 states use E-Verify. — Require employers to affirm their participation http://www.oxfordpress.com/news/oxford-news/immigration-bill-about-protecting-american-jobs-proponents-say-120586.html _________________
Government Grants in Ohio? Hi, I am looking to get some government grants to help me purchase a home... My dad bought some books and info a year ago about all kinds of government grants and stuff like that, but, I really don't know where to start with them.... Supposedly there is a way to get the government to pay for most, if not all of the cost of the house, especially for a first time home buyer... is this true... where would I even begin? How would I go about it... I've been on the www.hud.gov website, but, that is pretty confusing... I am a 21 year old, with a fiancee and a child, I got a steady job, make an ok income... I dunno if all that will affect the situation, but, I really want ot get out of this apartment and get a home for our son to grow up in, and our future children. Also, I'd like to just have a place to have friends overs, or fix up the house the way I'd like it to be... and have a built in pool lol... anyways, if anyone could give me any sort of direction to go with all this, thank you!

What effect does the immigration issue have on how you will vote in November? NEW POLL: IMMIGRATION KEY ISSUE IN CONTESTED RACES Center for Immigration Studies : October 16 , 2006 -- by Steven Camarota Public Wants Illegals to Go Home, Enforcement, No Immigration Increase A new poll, using neutral language, finds intense voter concern over immigration in 14 tight congressional races. The surveys were conducted by the polling company inc. for the Center for Immigration Studies. In addition to a national survey, detailed polling on immigration was conducted in four contested Senate races: Missouri, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Montana; and in 10 contested House races: Arizona 5th, Connecticut 4th, Indiana 8th, Kentucky 4th, Pennsylvania 6th, Texas 17th, Louisiana 3rd, Georgia 8th, Colorado 7th, and Ohio 6th. The complete results are online at www.cis.org. Among the findings: * Immigration is a big issue throughout the country. Of likely voters nationally, 53 percent said immigration was either their most important issue or one of their top three issues, while just 8 percent said it was not at all important. With the exception of CT-4th, in races surveyed only about 10 percent of voters said it was not important at all. * When told numbers, voters want less immigration. When told the actual number of immigrants here (legal and illegal) and the number coming (legal and illegal), and asked to put aside the question of legal status, 68 percent of voters nationally thought immigration was too high, 21 percent about right, and just 2 percent thought it was too low. In every congressional race surveyed, the share who said overall immigration was too low was in the single digits. * Voters less likely to vote for immigration-increasing candidates. Experts agree that the bill passed by the Senate earlier this year would at least double future legal immigration, yet 70 percent of voters said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who wanted to double legal immigration. Overwhelming majorities in every battleground race feel the same way. * Voters reject both extremes -- legalization or mass deportations. Some previous polls have shown support for legalizing illegal immigrants. But those polls have given the public only a choice between large-scale deportations or ''earned legalization,'' and not the third choice of across-the-board enforcement, causing illegals to go home. This third option, which is the basis of the bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, is voters' top choice. * House immigration plan by far the favorite. Enforcement approaches with no increase in legal immigration were the most popular policy option -- 44 percent wanted enforcement that causes illegals to go home, the House approach, and another 20 percent wanted large-scale deportations. Just 31 percent supported legalization of illegal immigrants. * Intensity greater among enforcement supporters. Nationally, 32 percent of voters said they would be much more likely to vote for a candidate who would enforce the law and cause illegals to go home, compared to just 15 percent who said they would be much more likely to vote for a candidate who supports legalization. This same pattern holds in battleground House contests. * Voters skeptical of need for unskilled immigrant labor. More than 70 percent of voters nationally agreed that there were ''plenty of Americans to do low-wage jobs that require relatively little education, employers just need to pay higher wages and treat workers better to attract Americans,'' compared to 21 percent who said we need immigrants because there were not enough Americans to do all such jobs. The results were very similar in all the contested states and districts surveyed. * Voters think lack of enforcement is reason for illegal immigration. Three out of four voters in the nation agreed that the reason we have illegal immigration is that past enforcement efforts have been ''grossly inadequate.'' Voters strongly reject the argument that illegal immigration is caused by overly restrictive legal immigration policies. Strong majorities in every battleground contest surveyed felt this way. * Numbers make a difference. One key finding is that when told the scale of immigration (legal and illegal), voters overwhelmingly thought it was too high. Also, when told how much the Senate bill would increase legal immigration, voters tended to reject it. This would seem to undermine the argument that voters are only concerned about illegality and not the level of immigration. The levels of immigration used in the questions are those widely agreed upon by experts based on government data. http://www.betterimmigration.com/reportcardintro.html Use the link above to find out your politicians positions on immigration. How would someone who is temporarily disabled get government assistance without going on unemployment? I have a friend who because of an accident can't return to work for a month. His company does not have short term disability payments. What type of assistance is available to people in that situation without him having to quit his job and go on unemployment. He’s afraid that he won’t have enough money, since he’s not getting a paycheck, to pay for rent, bills and groceries. We live in Ohio if that helps.

Job is what I need here in ohio. Can someone help? I have been unemployed since 08/03/2010 here in Ohio. I have applied at around 200 different places since then. Some of them only accept resumes. I have no life I cannot afford to go out. I cant hang out with friends anymore because im too poor. I have went to the unemployment office but nothing is available. Im so depressed now im thinking of ending my life because of this. I have done everything possible to get a job and not even one person has given me a call back stating hey we got your application but we are sorry but were not interested. Ive never committed a crime, clean criminal history, ive never done/used/sold drugs. I hvae never been in the back of a police car and never been arrested. I have never done anything bad in my life and im treated this way. I have done everything. Ive went through temporary employment agencies. Everyone hates me and I dont understand why. Im TIRED of trying all the time. Some days I dont even get out of bed anymore because my life isnt getting any better. I am a male. I am only average looking of attractiveness. Im a great dresser. Im very neat in appearance especially when I go to these places applying for work. I have noticed that a few females I know, who have criminal backgrounds and have been recently terminated from there employment are able to get jobs at the snap of a finger. They have nice breasts nice butt and a very cute face to match. Isnt that wonderful? Sometimes I wish I was a sexy hot looking woman so I could get a job. Thats besides my point though. I dont understand why I cannot find a job. They say more men are unemployed now in the usa well, how are we supposed to get a job if no one hires us? Then people complain about people who are on welfare/government assistance. Well im busting my ASS here looking for work most of the time and soon ill have no choice but to go on welfare myself or become homeless because I am not a minority. Im a single white male with no children. Basically im screwed is what im trying to say. Im afraid to even ask for help with this because I realize so many other people are in the same situation as I am. And people just say keep my chin up or keep on trying buddy something will come along. Well, that sounds good but nothing IS coming along and honestly after the 200th application the chances of me getting a job doesnt look very good now does it....ive been using www.monster.com ohiomeansjobs.com indeed.com www.snagajob.com and god knows everything else online to find a job. Still I found nothing. Can anyone help me? Can someone in Ohio maybe give me a job working for you personally like as a butler or something lol. I need help here im running out of options. Thank you for reading
Mexicans say changing NAFTA may force them to move to U.S.? What if any are your thoughts on this? Mexicans say changing NAFTA may force them to move to U.S. By Franco Ordonez, McClatchy Newspapers Mon Mar 3, 6:17 PM ET http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20080303/wl_mcclatchy/2867869 Mexico has gained because of NAFTA, according to Mexican Economy Secretary Eduardo Soto . He told a gathering last week of U.S., Canadian, and Mexican representatives that the Mexican economy has grown 51 percent because of NAFTA, that nearly 5 million jobs have been generated and that exports to the U.S. and Canada have multiplied five times. "The trade act is good because we have jobs," he said Sunday, speaking loudly over the clamor of hundreds of workers hauling fruits and vegetables off rumbling trucks. "If there are no jobs, more people are going to go to the U.S. I have so many friends who can't find jobs and leave." Jesus Velasquez doesn't want to move to the United States . He fears, however, that he may have to if he loses his job selling avocados. Velasquez, 36, says he and his family have benefited from the North American Free Trade Agreement. For him, the alternative is to immigrate to the United States . "People are worried," said Gerardo Peralta , 55, who sells rice, nuts and condiments. "If the U.S. tries to renegotiate, they are going to do what's best for them. That could be bad for Mexico . "As representatives of the Mexican government, we do not want to insert ourselves into the U.S. political campaigns," he said. "However, we are convinced that what North America needs is more integration and not less integration. North America needs to look to the future and not return to the past." As voters in Ohio , Texas , Rhode Island and Vermont prepare to go to the polls Tuesday, some workers and distributors at this 800-acre food market, one of the biggest in the world, are expressing concern about presidential candidates Hillary Clinton's and Barack Obama's threats to pull out of NAFTA unless it's renegotiated. NAFTA is unpopular in Ohio , a key battleground state for Clinton and Obama, where thousands of manufacturing workers have lost jobs. Several vendors at the Central de Abasto food market said NAFTA isn't perfect. Prices on many products have risen, and many corn farmers said they've been run out of business because of the influx of cheaper American grown corn. But overall, they say, NAFTA has been good for the country, and they worry what changes the U.S. would seek should it return to the negotiating table with Mexico and Canada .
Can anyone proof my essay and give me suggestions on making it better? Robert F. Spada Room #129, First Floor Columbus, Ohio 43215 Dear Senator Spada; When November rolls around, young people everywhere are left in the dust, when their parents line up at the polls. As they get updated on politics when they are watching C-Span, they can’t help but long for the chance to put all of the time they spend watching to use for the greater good, for the chance to get involved, the chance to make a difference. Lowering the voting age to 16 years old, will make a change. Every year, politically aware teenagers are deprived the opportunity to vote, when in numerous places the voting age has been lowered, many young people are involved in politics, and they are mentally and emotionally capable. Every year the number of 18 to 24 year olds that vote is increasing by eleven percent. In some places, the lowering of the voting age has been put up as legislation, such as California, Florida, and Massachusetts, and in other places, such as New York, 16 year olds can vote in municipal elections. In European countries such as, Germany and Austria, 16 year olds can vote. Places like Australia, Great Britain, and Canada are considering similar plans. Sixteen year olds are capable both mentally and emotionally to vote. Many 16 year olds have jobs and pay income tax. If they are paying income tax, shouldn’t they have a say in who in the elected person is who makes theses taxes? Furthermore, 16 year olds are allowed to drive, and it is technically legal for them to have sex. For all these laws that are passed, and all the responsibility that is put on them, shouldn’t they have a say in who makes these laws? There are, however, many people that feel 16 year olds are totally unqualified to make these kinds of decisions, and they will not take any of it seriously. Some wish that it would be okay for 16 year olds to vote, if they were required to take a test that made sure they were capable of this responsibility. The testing of teenagers, which may sound like a good idea to some, has already been ruled unconstitutional. People should trust teenagers more. Most teenagers go to school every day, and there they learn about politics, and different types of government. The number young people that vote is increasing every year. According to Campaigns and Elections Magazine, 73 percent of 18 to 24 year olds voted in the 2006 election. Teenagers are a lot brighter than people make them out to be. For those teenagers that do want to vote, and do want to have a say in government, the opportunity should not be denied. Lowering the voting age to 16 would be a very wise move. Politics will have a new influence. The opinions of minds other than most adults will be heard. Sixteen year olds are one hundred percent capable of this task. They are capable emotionally and mentally. They deserve the right to vote, that is given to other people their age, just in different areas of the world. All in all, they deserve to use their awareness of politics to help the greater good. Teenagers deserve the right to vote at a younger age, don’t deny them that right. Sincerely Yours,
Obama Promises jobs, health-care, prosperity, and to punish corporations...please explain this to me? It seems to me that government doesn't really create jobs, I don't understand why Obama wants to attack corporation & businesss yet at the same time make them expand & hire? This doesn't make sense. At a recent Obama rally here in Ohio I heard him time after time bash companies, profits, corporations. Aren't THESE the people WHO create jobs? I stood not more than 15 feet away when he said the weathiest Americans should pay their fair-share of the tax burden. Isn't it a fact that the top 10% (according to the IRS) pay 71.4% of all taxes already. The bottom 50% only pay 2.4% NOW, these are FACTS not polictical feel good talk. I heard Obama say at least 20 times that he wants to "LIFT" America...WTH does that mean?? I heard the crowd cheer but when I asked what that means NO ONE knew. How can you attack the Job MAKERS...and at the SAME time expect them to invest, create jobs and expand if Sen. Obama say's they are the bad guys? I heard him time and time again bash a Oil company for making 50 billion in profits....I looked them up on the internet and found they EMPLOY 46,540 people and those NASTY profits he speaks of are being PAID to share holders, retired people, grand parents, the eldery, 410K's etc...PLEASE expalin this to me? fdtm...yes I've seen his web-site...BUT would you be so kind to expalin this to me?

El Border Wall Has Mexico Feeling Helpless? At the beginning of every school year, bad news comes from Mexican heartland states such as Zacatecas and Querétaro: Local authorities are closing hundreds of schools because so many families have moved north to the U.S. heartland. Mexicans feel helpless before the migrant exodus, and talk about it the same way they talk about the weather. Everyone complains about it, but there´s not much you can do about it. On Friday night, the U.S. Senate approved a 700-mile high-tech border barrier in a bid to stop the immigrant flow. The decision, a seminal event in the two neighbors´ relations, has left many Mexicans wondering if the open door to the north is closing. Some Mexicans saw the vote as a collective slap in the face that highlighted the failure of their country´s leaders to give Mexicans a reason to stay home. "Our politicians have not lived up to their responsibilities toward the people who migrate," said Homero Aridjis, a poet, activist and onetime Mexican diplomat. "Our government has failed before the economic and social plight of the poor." "I´m from Michoacán," said Aridjis. "When I go there, I see fertile farmland and orchards that have been abandoned." Few observers here expect the new barriers to stop people from Mexico and Central America from seeking a better life in the United States. New smuggling routes are expected to open through ever-more-remote stretches of desert, or over the waters of the river that Mexicans call the Rio Bravo del Norte. WAVE OF MIGRATION But the bill approved by both houses of U.S. Congress, and soon to be signed by U.S. President George W. Bush, might signal the end of an era that has seen dramatic cultural and demographic changes in both countries. The wave of Latin American migration that began in the 1980s helped make Hispanics the largest minority in the United States and the largest ethnic group in Los Angeles and many other U.S. cities. The beginning of the 21st century saw Hispanic immigration spread to almost every corner of the United States, with Spanish-speaking communities booming in states such as Tennessee and Ohio. Latin Americans see the initiative as a rejection of the cultural changes brought forth by Hispanic in the United States. In angry editorials and speeches, Mexican writers and politicians have compared the project to the Berlin Wall and the Great Wall of China. "The exploitation of fear among the citizens of the United States has been at the center of the debate," the newspaper EL UNIVERSAL said in an editorial Saturday. "This wall, like all those built with xenophobic aims, will be far from effective." President Vicente Fox and President-elect Felipe Calderón have denounced the new fence, as have a host of Mexican political leaders. ´SAFETY VALVE´ For decades, social scientists here have seen migration to the north as a "safety valve" that keeps Mexico from exploding into social conflict. Now, a small number of voices are saying the brain and muscle drain to the U.S. cannot continue indefinitely. When the head of the Central Bank, the Banco de México, told a Texas newspaper last week that a new wall between the United States and his country might not be such a bad thing, his remarks were front-page news here. Surprisingly, there were few public expressions of disagreement. "It would be best to keep its people in Mexico, and it would give incentives for Mexico to create jobs that are needed," Guillermo Ortiz, the bank official, said in an interview with the editorial board of The Dallas Morning News. Rather than return to Mexico, many immigrants are sending for their families, accelerating the declining enrollment in rural Mexican schools, analysts say. In Zacatecas, state education officials said last month they were closing 269 schools because of declining enrollments. CLOSING THE BORDER Before 1929, Mexicans were not required to obtain a visa to enter the United States. Ever since, "The history of the border has been a history of closing the border," said Tony Payan, a professor at the University of Texas, El Paso and author of "The Three U.S.-Mexico Border Wars: Drugs, Immigration, and Homeland Security." The new measures approved Friday will seal off most of the Arizona-Mexico border. Immigrant smugglers probably will move farther east, to remote crossing points on the Rio Grande upriver from the Texas cities of Eagle Pass and Del Rio, Payan said. Wayne Cornelius of the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies at the University of California, San Diego, told the Judiciary Committee that even if the entire land border were sealed off, immigrant smuggling probably would move to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Lorenzo Meyer, one of Mexico´s leading historians, argued that the Senate vote had revealed an essential hypocrisy in U.S.-Mexico relations. "In 1993 we signed the North American Free Trade agreement," Meyer said. "It was supposed to be the beginning of a period of cooperation and friendship." Now the U.S. government has "unilaterally" announced the construction of a wall, he said, despite Mexico´s strenuous objections. "We see now that the idea of a united ´North America´ is fiction," Meyer said. "The reality is the wall."

What do you think More than 300,000 criminal aliens are expected to be placed in state and local jails ? Sheriff Jim Pendergraph first noticed the changes in his jail population early in the decade, as illegal immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries poured into Charlotte and elsewhere in Mecklenburg County, N.C., to find jobs in the robust North Carolina economy. In Butler County, Ohio, Sheriff Richard K. Jones became so frustrated with the swelling population of undocumented suspects in his jail a couple of years ago that he symbolically billed the federal government for his incarceration costs and posted a big yellow sign near the jail reading: "Illegal aliens here." Pendergraph and Jones are part of a growing national debate over how to handle undocumented criminals, a debate that's flared anew with the arrest of an illegal immigrant in the execution-style slayings of three college students in New Jersey. Criminal aliens, as the federal government classifies them, constitute more than a fourth of the inmates in federal prisons. Those still at large often fall between the cracks of an overburdened and uneven enforcement system, escaping detection and deportation. More than 300,000 criminal aliens are expected to be placed in state and local jails this year, according to a forecast last year by the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general. Most might remain in this country after serving their sentences because the federal government lacks the resources to identify, detain and deport them, the audit said. The suspect in the Newark killings, Jose Carranza, is an illegal immigrant from Peru who was out on bond on assault and child-rape charges. Authorities said they were unaware that Carranza was in the country illegally, largely because local policy prohibits officers from questioning suspects about their immigration status. Newark is one of dozens of cities with "sanctuary" policies designed to keep local law enforcement officers from racially profiling suspects... http://www.mcclatchydc.com/226/story/19392.html

I want so much to move forward, yet I have trouble finding a job as I have no background on my resume and certainly no past references I can use. I really need to move forward, yet I do not know where to go next. Let me rephrase that - I know where to go next, I just don't know how to get there. I am in Ohio and if anyone knows of a job counselor or somewhere I can go where I can get a good job where my background is not an issue, please let me know. I also have friends who are in the same boat. None of us really have a place to go next, yet we are all eager to do something else, and we all have experience from prior "real jobs". I really need to find someone who will help me get a job. Does anyone know of a service for this? If criminals and people on welfare can get help from the government...why can't we?
How should true patriots reclaim the media from Republican/Fascist interests? http://www.nowfoundation.org/issues/communications/tv/mediacontrol.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=fascism+in+america&btnG=Search ) Powerful and Continuing Nationalism: Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. September 11 Freedom Walk New Majority Leader: Iraq War “May Be The Greatest Gift That We Give” Our Grandchildren Headstones of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan are inscribed with the Pentagons war-marketing slogans White House and the RNC are going to make a habit of using uniformed military personnel as props at Republican political rallies, despite the fact that it is a plain violation of military regulations banning politicization of the armed forces. "You must glorify war in order to get the public to accept the fact that your going to send their sons and daughters to die." The inside story of the cozy relationship between big box office American war movies and the Pentagon More... 2.) Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights: Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. Bush threatens to veto $442b defense bill if Congress investigates detainee abuses. Guantanamo Judge: “I don’t care about international law. I don’t want to hear the words ‘international law’ again. We are not concerned with international law.” Rumsfeld to approve new guidelines that will formalize the administration's policy of imprisoning without the protections of the Geneva Conventions and enable the Pentagon to legally hold "ghost detainees," US 'preparing to detain terror suspects for life without trial' U.S. oks evidence gained through torture July 1, 2003: U.S. Suspends Military Aid to Nearly 50 Countries: because they have supported the International Criminal Court and failed to exempt Americans from possible prosecution. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause: The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. Congressman: Muslims 'enemy amongst us' SB 24, Ohio law to muzzle "liberals" World history textbook used by seventh-graders at Scottsdale’s Mohave Middle School was pulled from classrooms mid-semester amid growing right criticism of the book’s unbiased portrayal of Islam Rallies planned against 'Islamofacism': Event to 'unify all Americans behind common goal' More... 4.) Supremacy of the Military: Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. If you haven't seen the Oreo flash animation yet, see it here Bush’s Domestic Program Hit List Bush slashes domestic programs, boosts defense. Arlen Spector calls it "scandalous" Funding for job training, rural health care, low-income schools and help for people lacking health insurance would face big cuts under a bill passed Friday by the House Pentagon to spend 75 billion for three new brigades Three cable channels now feed news, information and entertainment about the armed services into millions of living rooms 24 hours a day, seven days a week: The Military Channel, the Military History Channel and the Pentagon Channel. More... 5.) Rampant Sexism: The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy. It's legal again, to fire gov't workers for being gay Bush calls for Constitutional ban on same-sex marriages Bush refuses to sign U.N proposal on women's "sexual" rights W. David Hager chairman of the FDA's Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee does not prescribe contraceptives for single women, does not do abortions, will not prescribe RU-486 and will not insert IUDs. Controlled Mass Media: Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. FBI Acknowledges: Journalists Phone Records are Fair Game Report shows U.S. government has been engaged in illegal propaganda aimed at its own citizens and the story gets only 41 mentions in the media Free Press details recent governmental propaganda efforts, from faux-correspondent Jeff Gannon to paid-off pundit Armstrong Williams, and from the demise of FOIA to video news releases passed off as news. also... Obsession with National Security: Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses Bush Aides ADMIT 'stoking fear' for political gain: Bush adviser said the president hopes to change the dynamics of the race. The strategy is aimed at stoking public fears about terrorism, raising new concerns about Kerry's ability to protect Americans and reinforcing Bush's image as the steady anti-terrorism candidate, aides said. Religion and Government are Intertwined: Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. Jerry Falwell cleared of charges that he broke federal election law by urging followers to vote for Bush NC congressman proposes law making it ok to preach politics from the pulpit Texas Governor Mobilizes Evangelicals Family research council: Justice Sunday Thou shalt be like Bush: What makes this recently established, right-wing Christian college unique are the increasingly close - critics say alarmingly close - links it has with the Bush administration and the Republican establishment. Park Service Continues to Push Creationist Theory at Grand Canyon and other nat'l parks More... 9.) Corporate Power is Protected: The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. The K Street Project is a project by the Republican party to pressure Washington lobbying firms to hire Republicans in top positions, and to reward loyal GOP lobbyists with access to influential officials. It was launched in 1995, by Republican strategist Grover Norquist and House majority leader Tom DeLay. American Conservative Magazine: One U.S. contractor received $2 million in a duffel bag... and a U.S. official was given $7 million in cash in the waning days of the CPA and told to spend it “before the Iraqis take over.” There are 6 Congressional Committees investigating the Oil-for-Food (UN) scandal, yet not a single Republican Committee Chairman will call a hearing to investigate the whereabouts of 9 billion dollars missing in Iraq Bush money network rooted in Florida, Texas: Since Mr. Bush took office in 2001, the federal government has awarded more than $3 billion in contracts to the President's elite 2004 Texas fund-raisers, their businesses, and lobbying clients More... 10.) Labor Power is Suppressed: Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed. Labor Department warns unions against using their money politically President Bush Attacks Organized Labor: Bush attacked organized labor Saturday, issuing orders effectively reducing how much money unions can spend for political activities and opening up government contracts to non-union bidding. March 2001: President Bush signed his name to four executive orders on organized labor last month, including one that cuts the money unions will have for political campaign spending. Congress and the Department of Labor are trying to change the rules on overtime pay, eliminating the 40 hour work week, taking eligibility for overtime pay away from millions of workers, and replacing time and a half pay with comp days. More... 11.) Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts: Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts. Bush's new economic plan cuts funding for arts, education Artists from all over the world are being refused entry to the US on security grounds. A group of more than 60 top U.S. scientists, including 20 Nobel laureates and several science advisers to past Republican presidents, on Wednesday accused the Bush administration of manipulating and censoring science for political purposes Freedom of Repression: New ruling will allow censorship of campus publications More... 12.) Obsession with Crime and Punishment: Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations American Gestapo is here: "There is hereby created and established a permanent police force, to be known as the 'United States Secret Service Uniformed Division.'" America: secret jails, secret courts, secret arrests, and now secret laws Snitch-or-Go-to-Jail bill will make pretty much anything short of reporting on everyone you see for doing just about anything a jailable offense. With minimum sentences, up to and including life without parole. The problem with Gonzales is that he has been deeply involved in developing some of the most sweeping claims of near-dictatorial presidential power in our nation's history, allowing him to imprison and even (at least in theory) torture anyone in the world, at any time Police officers don't have to give a reason at the time they arrest someone, the U.S. Supreme Court said in a ruling that shields officers from false-arrest lawsuits. More... 13.) Rampant Cronyism and Corruption: Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. Bush Cronyism: Foxes Guarding the henhouse Making Sense of the Abramoff Scandal If Bush's pick is confirmed, that will mean the five top appointees at Justice have zero prosecutorial experience among them. Iran-Contra Felons Get Good Jobs from Bush Big Iraq Reconstruction Contracts Went To Big Donors Bush Wars -- Crooks Get Contracts : The main companies that were awarded billions of dollars worth of contracts in Iraq have paid more than $300 million in fines since 2000, to resolve allegations of fraud, bid rigging, delivery of faulty military equipment, and environmental damage. US Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) lost track of $9 billion "Contracting in the aftermath of the hurricanes has been marked by waste, corruption and cronyism" More... 14. Fraudulent Elections: Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections. Rolling Stone does some investigative and rather exhaustive digging into public documents and says we’re almost guaranteed the 2004 election results were massively rigged Powerful Government Accounting Office report confirms key 2004 stolen election findings Conyers hearing in which Clinton Curtis testifies that he was hired to create hackable voting machines (.wmv) The Republican Party has quietly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide private defense lawyers for a former Bush campaign official charged with conspiring to keep Democrats from voting in New Hampshire. This picture is what stopped the ballot recounts in Florida shortly after it seemed that legitimate President Gore had a lead. The "citizens" started what was later called "the preppy riot". Why were conservatives so wrong about the Clinton economic plan? When Clinton and the Democratic congress passed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 (which raised taxes for those making over 200K and increased social spending on education, job training, and police) Republicans were predicting doom and gloom. Why were they so wrong? ------ "The tax increase will kill jobs and lead to a recession, and the recession will force people off of work and onto unemployment and will actually increase the deficit." - Newt Gingrish "I believe this will lead to a recession next year... Stay tuned for the next 60 days... I think we're frankly now living on borrowed time." - Newt Gingrish "A recipe for economic disaster..." - Phil Crane of Illinois "It is going to lead to a Clintastrophy, an economic Clintastrophy..." - Indiana's Dan Burton. "April Fool, America. This Clinton budget plan will not create jobs, will not grow the economy, and will not reduce the deficit." - Sen. Pete Domenici of New Mexico "We are buying a one-way ticket to a recession... I want to predict here tonight, that if we adopt this bill the American economy is going to get weaker and not stronger, the deficit four years from today will be higher than it is today and not lower ... When all is said and done, people will pay more taxes, the economy will create fewer jobs, the government will spend more money, and the American people will be worse off." - Gramm of Texas "This plan will not work... If it was to work, then I'd have to become a Democrat and believe that more taxes and bigger government is the answer." - Kasich of Ohio While you're at this, please answer my other question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtTpbvmBUccK0mO03Ul7Dpnsy6IX?qid=20070410053222AACfp3G Namsaev, I'm saying if you help people work their way up through education, job training, GI Bills, labor laws, etc, and shift taxes to those who can most afford them (wealthier people), the middle class grows and so does the economy. By the way, check out my question link I included above.
Will these colleges accept a 3.7999 GPA and 30 ACT score (see list)? ...not to mention, participation in three school sports, one private sector job, one state government internship, enrollment in two AP classes, and three college classes? I'm actually asking this on behalf of my younger brother (aren't I nice?) We come from a middle-class household in small town Kentucky. I know he can easily make it into any of our public universities. But, how about these schools, too? A. Vanderbilt B. Ohio State C. Tennessee D. Emory E. Virginia If he was to make it into any of those four schools, I know he'd definitely have to join the ROTC to have a shot of having most of his education paid for. But, is it worth his time in the first place to apply to those schools? All serious input welcome!
Would you hire an inexperienced, college dropout, former secretary to run a dog/cat pound? Recently, in Akron, Ohio, our city government officials did a councilman a favor by hiring his 23 year old daughter to run our counties animal shelter. She has NO EXPERIENCE in running a facility like this. She is a college dropout, and a former secretarty to the prior animal warden who blatantly let animals be abused--SEVERELY. Therefore, she is just as guilty in the abuse of the animals as he is. There were many other very qualified individuals who wanted to apply for the job but were not allowed. The job was not posted and no interviews were given to find the best candidate. Does this seem right to you? Visit http://www.summitcare.org for more information on the atrocities that occur at the Summit County Animal Facility in Akron, Ohio.
Will democrats eventually destroy any economy that they have total control of? Here is why I ask this question whenever I look around our nation and I observe states that have high taxes, exodus of jobs and population ex California, New jersey, Ohio, Michigan Louisiana,New York the state governments are overwhelmingly democrats, what is it about democrats that seem to demand higher and and higher taxes and make it more and more difficult for the average worker to make ends meet? Please no silly response that California and NY have republican governors, their state government is still liberal and democratic and have been for decades. Are my observation off base and please tell me why? I love the response from the the flaming liberals most of them lack logic most of the economies that have taken off such as Ireland and ex soviet union satellites have done this through 2 things reduction of corperate and personal income taxes what a concept? for those intellectually dishonest people bush tax cut actually rescue the economy we had the lowest unemployment and record revenues to the government in the last 5 years just like in the Reagan era the only drawback is that government is spending the extra money faster than it is coming in if someone can show me by example that democrats will ever cut spending i would like to see it?
Do You Really Think That Republicans Want To Help Obama Create Jobs ? If so, perhaps you should consider this, and then give your answer. In an article published on Townhall today, RNC Chairman candidate and former Ohio governor Secretary of State Ken Blackwell urges congressional conservatives to oppose the reinvestment and recovery stimulus plan promoted by President-elect Obama. Though he offers standard conservative arguments against the plan — including a screed against the growth of “big government” — Blackwell seemed most concerned about the political benefit Democrats might see from successfully boosting the economy. He warned that the bill, which calls for 80 percent job creation in the private sector, could create 600,000 new federal jobs — a problem because it would make it that much harder for for Republicans to win back Virginia. The bottom line is that, in an economy that lost 1.2 million jobs last year, Blackwell’s biggest concern is to block the creation of new jobs because those newly-employed Americans might vote Democratic.
my mothers house? well......... my moms house is falling apart. First of all, the roof is completely useless anymore, who knows how old it is, all i know is it does not do it's job,no gutters. No insulation except for a few walls in the house which you can only see because of the holes in the walls. The bathroom... has 13 pots on the ground to catch the water dripping from the ceiling, along the window is black mold also around the shower and bathtub.the toilet seems like it could fall threw the floor if you sit on it.. mabye one day.a mushroom sprouted up on the floor one day.. I may mention there is actually no ceiling in the bathroom just the roof, with parts of insulation hanging from it. The basement has 2 feet of water in it from all this past rain, which covers the water tank and pilot light so she has no heat or hot water. is there any kind of OHIO government grant that could help her? she works but she does'nt make that much money and with this garnishment going on, she could never afford anythin and the basement is covered in black mold actually theres more problems that i cant even think of..electrical is out is one side of the house due to water leaking into the fuse box........... no insurance.......... :(
Is Ohio One Of Many States To Say Law Needed To Tackle Illegal Aliens, Officials Say? Officials at the county jail said, on a typical day, at least 40 prisoners held there are suspected illegal aliens, which they said costs the county about $1 million per year. “What it's costing us, we're going to ask the federal government to foot that bill, and take charge and do their jobs,” said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones. Jones and state Rep. Courtney Combs said Friday that they hoped new laws would target illegal immigrants and the businesses that hire them. They said at a press conference that they would like to see stiffer penalties and higher taxes for those employers. “After what happened in Washington where nothing got done, it's falling back on the states where we have to do things like what we're doing here today,” Combs said. See more at link.http://www.wlwt.com/news/13728256/detail.html We need a freaking Law for our Freaking elected Officials to Force them to Obey the Laws that we all have to Obey, Then we need a Freaking Law that forces Law Enforcement to Enforce the Current Freaking Laws (even if Cities, Counties, States don’t make any Money from the same said enforcement) and all of the Toys that Seatbelt Citations, Speeding Citations etc etc etc have paid for should finally be implemented to enforce the Laws that we “KNOW” don’t make the Cities, Counties, States any Money. We are fed up with Law Enforcement only being able to collect Taxes, they can start doing their job or we're all for disbanding them firing their Political handlers and starting over.

Are blue collar Ohio residents in for a rude awakening with Hilarys Health Care Plan? You changed jobs and have a lapse in your health coverage? IRS fine You don't have the money to pay your monthly preimum? IRS Fine You can't afford what "WE" think you shoul be able to afford? IRS Fine Can't afford to pay the IRS fine? Thats ok, we'll just garnish your wages. Think mandated healthcare is going to be cheap? It might be free for the indegent (can't squeeze blood from a stone) but it will cost the middle class plenty. Enforcement fines will go back into the system to pay government salaries and support more pork spending. Who knows maybe they'll build another tea cup museum with the money. How anyone could think that Hilarys plan is better than Obama's is beyond me. Neither one will pass congress anyhow but I think it's crazy that blue collar workers are voting for her because of this plan. Clearly they have no clue.

Would you put that package in your shopping cart or order that particular entree from the menu? Imagine this: you’re looking at a package of chicken in the meat/poultry section of your local grocery store (or considering ordering the grilled chicken entree on the menu at a local restuarant) and you see a label reading: This chicken was processed by illegal aliens being paid sub-standard wages and without health benefits in order to bring you, the consumer, the best possible value for your food dollar! Would you put that package in your shopping cart or order that particular entree from the menu? Truth be known, and this needs saying, the Koch employees may have been earning sub-standard wages at that Ohio chicken processing plant, but they most certainly were nonetheless enjoying healthcare and many other benefits that millions of Americans do not share in. How is that, you ask? You provide them! For, in point of fact, illegal aliens regularly leverage a vast social safety net of taxpayer-subsidized services, from healthcare to education to food stamps to housing to Medicaid (and on and on it goes). Still skeptical? Well, then, read the following from American Chronicle: Illegals can’t live on illegal pay reported without government subsidies. … illegal immigrants drawn by greed and treasonous wartime profiteering only come here for: Illegal government handouts (provided without determining legal status, identification, residency or need) for: local health department care, emergency health care, prenatal care, catastrophic disease care, tuition, education, food, subsidized housing, public transportation, Medicaid, WIC, food stamps and numerous other social stipends, provide financial incentive to come to this country. And square that reality with the fact that poorly educated, unskilled, low-wage, illegal alien laborers performing marginal jobs in this country were nevertheless able to send $45 billion back to their countries of origin in 2006. From whose pockets do you think that kind of money came from, Folks? They sure didn’t get it from cutting up chicken parts for $8.00 an hour.
How do i know if i qualify for short term disability? I am 9 months pregnant, and I don't qualify for paid leave at my job, because I haven't been there long enough. I need some kind of salary as I won't be working for 6 weeks, what are my options in Ohio, as far as short term disability, or anything else through the government?
Advancement in job being hindered by boss.? Ohio/Local Government. In my line of work there is one promotion to be made, at least at the place I am at. It is a good promotion and brings with it more money and more freedom. So there are 3 of us guys that are in the lower position, any of us honestly would be just fine for the promotion. Even most of the guys who have made the promotion think that way of the 3 of us. But, we are all good at what we do and the management does not want to have to spend money to fill our position, so they go outside to hire for the opening. It saves them money. They have always hired from within but the last two times it has been from outside because it saves money. Now I see this rut and want to get a job at a different place BUT I run into the same problem... They give me a bad reference because they don't want to spend money to fill my place!! I would almost have to commit a major felony to get fired, but then no one would hire then either. What to do Join the Military?
Would you hire and inexperienced 23 year old college dropout/former secretary to run an animal shelter?

Computer expert Prashant Chopra pleads in child sex sting Posted by Maggi Martin July 30, 2008 15:42PM Categories: Breaking News Cleveland -- A computer technology expert who helped program local college computers pleaded guilty on Wednesday for trying to arrange sex with a 12-year old girl. Prashant Chopra, 30, of Cleveland Heights, pleaded guilty in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to three counts of importuning and one attempted abduction. He remains free on a $250,000 bond but had to forfeit his 2006 Mercedes that he drove in to meet the girl. His computers were seized by police. Ryan Miday, a spokesman for the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office, said Chopra began chatting with a person he thought was a 12-year-old girl last July. The 12-year-old was actually an undercover police officer in the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Chopra drove in his Mercedes to meet the girl for sex and was arrested in September. Chopra, who lives in a $1 million mansion, worked as an Internet technology consultant at CampusEAI Consortium which helps universities and governments incorporate the latest Internet technologies. He will be sentenced in September. well..if i am asking this question..this must be BACKGROUND INFO this guy walked

Do you feel that people are spoiled? Wow is that a campaign slogan? a user here has said: "People are spoiled. Stop asking for free handouts from the government and TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. I'm sick of seeing answers like #1 "my dad makes XX amount and none of us get free college or health care, wahhhhh" boo hoo, its not the governments job to spoon feed or give you freebies your whole life. Work hard and youll be fine. Be a lazy bum, and youll be crying for more handouts the rest of your life..." Aside from the fact that MENTAL ILLNESS can account for why MANY veterans or just regular people CAN'T reasonably be expected to "work hard"....please come to Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and tell people we are SPOILED! Is this Mccain's view too...that people who are medically uninsured or inadequately insured are just ...SPOILED?
Pre Employment Background Check? Hi I was arrested and charged with a M1 for petty theft in the state of Ohio. One year later-- I got my record sealed. I was wondering if the charge would show up on a background check at a job that does not involve children- the elderly - or the government. thanks so much
Why do people come to the United States for health care? When they have the rest of the world to choose from? Visitors seeking U.S. health care fret over work By Ramit Plushnick-Masti, Associated Press GIBSONIA, Pa. — A bright girl with dark curls crowning her face, Matisse Reid has been sick all her life with a rare disorder that prevents her body from absorbing nutrients. She nibbles on beet salad for lunch, but Matisse's real meal — fats, nutrients and fluids — come from an intravenous line running from her backpack to a vein in her stomach. After six years of IV feedings, the pressure on her liver is becoming life-threatening and she is running out of usable veins. Often, she is doubled over with chronic pain and vomiting. After months of fundraising in their native New Zealand, Wayne and Jodee Reid, Matisse's parents, packed up their family of six and traveled 8,500 miles to Pittsburgh for a multi-organ transplant that could save their 6-year-old daughter's life. As they wait for a stomach, bowel and pancreas to become available, the Reids must draw from $260,000 they raised, money they are counting on to carry them through the years it will take Matisse to recover from her operation. Like other foreign families in the United States to obtain lifesaving medical care, the Reids are here on tourist visas, which do not allow them to find jobs. Families say that makes it more difficult to sustain themselves on the long journey of saving their children's lives, adding to their anxiety. "At the end of the day, we're just parents trying to do what's best for their children," Jodee said as Matisse, who is often in pain, played upstairs in the home they rent in this Pittsburgh suburb. The Reids arrived in Pittsburgh in January, expecting to spend about three years here for Matisse's operation and long recovery. But with the wait for the transplants expecting to take eight months to a year, they now realize they may have to stay closer to five years — and it's unclear whether the money they raised will be enough. If they spend only $60,000 annually — a tight stretch for a family of six — the money will run out in about four years. Often, coming to the United States is the only choice for families seeking complicated transplants, leaving people who have always worked dependent on charitable people and organizations. On rare occasions, they are forced to return home. "There's no provision whatsoever, even for humanitarian grounds, to allow these people to work," said Bruce Larson, director of the international personnel office at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., which treated about 8,000 foreigners last year at its hospitals, including several hundred children. The federal government does not track how many of the millions of people who come here on tourist visas are seeking medical care. Working with the Mayo Clinic and St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., said he plans to sponsor a bill that would grant work permits to parents of children who need more than six months of medical care. But it could get hung up in the bitter debate over immigration reform. Cohen wants to attach his bill to the broader reform legislation, which collapsed in the Senate in June. "I should hope it would have support. It's logical, it's humane," Cohen said. "I can't imagine anyone thinking this would be a security risk. It's just a humanitarian issue." Matisse was born on Christmas Day 2000 with chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, a disorder in which the small or large intestines lose their ability to contract and push food, stool and air through the gastrointestinal tract. It affects fewer than 200,000 people in the United States and is most common in children and the elderly. The cause is unknown but symptoms include severe bowel problems — from vomiting and diarrhea to chronic pain. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where Matisse is awaiting the triple transplant, treats fewer than 30 international patients a year. Years of lobbying convinced the New Zealand government to cover the $1.4 million cost of Matisse's planned transplants. Independently, the Reids also raised nearly $260,000 in donations to sustain Matisse and her three siblings — Rachel, 15, Kalani, 9 and Fraanz, 2 — during the years it will take Matisse to recover. "It's only the highly motivated or those with some resources to raise money to come to another country, whether it's England, France or the United States, can come," said Dr. George Mazariegos, director of pediatric transplants at Children's Hospital. "Right now the care is very disproportional to the need." Intestinal transplants have been done only about 1,300 times since 1989, nearly all in the United States, Mazariegos said. A study by a group of doctors in Columbus, Ohio, found that of eight children who underwent such transplants, two died a short while later. Of those who survived, the study found their lifestyles were significantly improved and at least three had normal bowel movements within 18 months. For the hundreds of foreigners who come to America every year seeking medical care, the issue of finances is ever present. Sometimes, medical care can take years, putting families in a financial bind. According to immigration attorneys, there are two alternatives for foreigners to receive work permits, and both are rarely effective. A family can open a small business. However, to ensure the business is viable they must invest at least $100,000. In this case, the owners of the business would have their visa status changed and they would get working papers. Getting hired by a research institute, such as a university, can also provide a work visa. However, there are just a few thousand such visas issued annually and they normally expire within days of the lottery. Non-profit research institutes, such as hospitals, do have an unlimited number of work visas that they can issue annually and a foreigner hired by such an institution could get working papers as well. Wayne Reid is a carpenter by trade and desperately wants to work — to keep busy and earn money for the family. He said he was offered under-the-table odd jobs but he refuses to do anything that might jeopardize his daughter's treatment.

The example that he cited are based on relationships, yes- whether they be a cousin or a hairdresser. However, the GREAT BIG DIFFERENCE is that when someone goes out of their way to verbally expound the degree of influence that someone has on you as well as when you tout this person as a role model or "mentor" - well now this is VERY dofferent. By doing this, you indeed are connecting yourself to this person in every way since you indicated that their beliefs were used to mentor and foster your own beliefs. When you look up to someone as a mentor or role model, you are believing in the basic principles of theirs. Obama's open statements to th ereverend being his spiritual mentor and best friend makes his beliefs as suspect as the reverend's. In addition, Obama can now denounce all he wants to but how could he be a parishioner for 17 years and listen to these types of statements if as Obama NOW states are "outrageous"? I think that we need to realy questiob Obama's truthfullness or question his judgement. In either case, the country should seriously reconsider any support for such a candidate. It is frightening that Obama's paltform really emphasizes "change" and his real agenda would seem to indicate other. We need to change our support to Senator Clinton and assure her success in November.3/17/2008 9:05:12 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy LISANROY wrote:amemended comments of dr kamal roy dt 3,17,2008LISANROY wrote:COMmENTS OF REV DR KAMAL KARNA Karuna ROY A REPUBLICAN CANIDATE AND HoPEFUL TO BE the NOMINEE OF GOP IN SCHEDULED ELECTION FOr NOV 4, 2008, IF BE HELD WITHOUT any COURT ORDER OF INJUNCTION to postpone corrpt election as PRAYED BY DR kamal k k ROY ALLEGING SKY_HIGH AND CLOUD_DARK CORRUPTIONS BY DEFENDANTS IN CIVIL ACTIONS FILED IN 20+ U S D COURT actions in 20+ different JURISDICTIONS with allegations against defendants for negligence to enforce laws not TO PUSH OUT ELECTORAL CONTESTANTS FROM WEAKER COMMUNITIES OF HAVE-nots 3/17/2008 9:04:05 PMRecommend (0) Report Abuse Discussion Policy rmorris391 wrote:well this is "midly amusing". It is a thinly veiled attempt to incite debate over issues, and non-issues, which may be unrelated to the national campaign. While the Mainstream Media (MSM) has too much time on its hands, to consider a long winded campaign, the focus has shifted to non-political discourse, about intractable problems that confound american society. We have issues related to baseball players, after all, who alledgedly used illegal substances to puff up their biceps. Certainly, congress can devise a surge campaign to intervene with major league baseball, and save the poor players from the rich players. After all, the economic crisis in MLB is looming, and requires some "foreign ownership equity." This is, afterall the land of "ownership." At least that is what a young president Bush promised the american public. Supporting someone who you say is your "mentor" who says "appalling" things with thousands of dollars is worse than saying them yourself. At least the pastor is being honest. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6]The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. What can I do? have endometriosis. I live in the state of Ohio, and the government seems to think that being paid $6.50 an hour is too much to be put on insurance. The job I have now doesn't offer it. I have lost quite a few jobs due to me not being able to preform and me not being able to show up on the days my pain is most servere. I started my period this morning, and it is by far the worst I have ever had. I had to call into work, and my boss told me to start looking for another job. I've only been employed there since late august. Can I collect unemployment? If not, what can I do? It took me a year to find this job because of what my resume looks like. I need answers asap. Please help me.
I am so tired of the Dems beating the same old dead horse!? Am I the only one here who is tired of hearing the Democrates and whinie liberals going on and on about how not enough is being done to rebuild New Orleans?? How about the residents of New Orleans who are still sitting around in free hotel rooms, and don't have a job yet, and can only feel sorry for themsleves. Are they capable of holding a hammer?? Can they not assist with the rebuilding of their own community?? I live in North East Ohio and in July 2006 entire neighborhoods were underwater. Trailers were washed down the river into Lake Erie. An entire condo complex was completely submerged. These people lost everything. But they didn't get national attention and they didn't sit around with their hands out waiting for the government to help them. They rolled up their sleeves, salvaged what the could and rebuilt elswhere. YES I have been to New Orleans both pre Katrina and post Katrina. I saw first hand how the poor citizens of New Orleans (especially ward nine) are doing in the aftermath. Alot, (not all, but alot) are living large on government welfare checks and FEMA money and even though almost all the local business are up and running, they can't seem to find a job. So don't preach to me about victimizing the victims. They are only victims because that is what they want to be. And if your such a good charible christian, why aren't you down there helping, HUH??? I went to help, but was so disellusioned by the bullshit I saw, I came home after a week with a new outlook on the so called "crisis" of New Orleans. And Ray Nagan is a boob!
I need money!!? Okay, so I live in Bedford Heights, Ohio. I been looking for a job and have not found one. I have signed up with almost every Temporary Agency there is available and they haven't called with a job. I live with my boyfriend and he works making enough to pay the bills. I went and filled out a application to start STNA classes at Montefiore Nursing Home in Beachwood, Ohio. I constantly keep calling the lady that hires and she doesn't return my phone calls. I know the next classes start April 21st. i know once I finish the classes within 3-4 weeks I have a guaranteed job making at least 11-12 hourly. But it doesnt seem like the lady is calling me back before next classes start. I went to my local Welfare Building to sign up for food stamps, cash advance and/or medicare. What I want to know is there anywhere that you know i could get government assistance. I have looked on websites and saw different options but either you have to pay for a kit, pay for the programs and etc.
This is from the Washington Post! And you wonder why? Georgetown's Hidden History First, it was a slave port. Later, it was a thriving center of black life. Today, it's a virtually all-white enclave. Why? Georgetown's Hidden History First, it was a slave port. Later, it was a thriving center of black life. Today, it's a virtually all-white enclave. Why? By Andrew Stephen Sunday, July 16, 2006; B01 Two negro men $300 One ditto woman $150 Four ditto girls $150 Two horses $200 Two cows $30 It was a shocking discovery . Flipping through files at the local library a few months ago for a school project, my 16-year-old son chanced upon the deeds of the house in which we live. He already knew it was one of the oldest in Georgetown; now he learned that in 1807, it was owned by a Thomas Turner and valued at $3,500. But it was the valuation of this other property, listed so matter-of-factly in the records, that stopped him cold: Slaves, he realized, had once lived in our house. This awful knowledge set him on a quest for the hidden history of Georgetown, exposing unpalatable truths that had been lost, if not willfully forgotten, over the decades: that the supposedly chic Georgetown of today had once been the center of a thriving slave trade, a significant port of call for traffickers in human flesh transported in from Africa and plantations in Maryland and Virginia. Yet so obscured has this history become that not even most Washingtonians are aware of it. Nor are they aware of the flourishing black community, mostly descended from those slaves, that once occupied a large portion of Georgetown -- until a combination of legislative, social and economic pressures gradually forced nearly all the black people out, turning the neighborhood into the wealthy, effectively all-white enclave it is today. My son's research unearthed one part of this forgotten narrative of our neighborhood. A second hint lay in a curious Georgetown phenomenon that had always puzzled us: the continuing existence of several thriving black churches, filled every Sunday morning with African Americans who do not actually live here. The history of our own house, though, still seemed surreal -- until, that is, very recently. Deep in the bowels of our house, there is a crude crawl space beneath the basement, a darkly mysterious place in which it is impossible to stand upright. It is filled with an ancient cesspit, cavities, brickwork and ledges that I had vaguely assumed served some long-forgotten purpose; one of my least-favorite tasks is crawling into it to remove the bodies of our share of the huge Norway rats that swarm all over the neighborhood. A month or so ago, an electrician had to crawl into the space, and afterward I apologized that he'd had to do so. "No problem," he replied. "You can see that was where slaves did the cooking." For me, at least, the penny suddenly dropped. In that space below my house where only rats now live, we concluded, fellow humans had almost certainly cooked for Mr. Turner and his family -- and may even have slept there, too. This thought brought home to my family and me some realities of U.S. history that so many white Americans choose either not to know or to forget: the roots of racial animosity and why their legacy persists to this day. Lest we forget, there were neither blacks nor whites in Georgetown -- then known as Tahoga -- before British settlers came ashore around 1696. It was a peaceful village inhabited by the Nacotchanke Indians. Straightforward facts and precise dates of Georgetown history are difficult to establish; much of the subject is undocumented, and accounts differ. But the basic story is indisputable. The Indians were soon expunged by the settlers. Then, in the 18th century, white entrepreneurs realized that huge sums of money could be made from the insatiable demand -- in both Europe and the United States -- for the tobacco cultivated in Virginia and Maryland (of which Georgetown was then a part). Because of its position on the Potomac, Georgetown provided an ideal port from which ships laden with tobacco could sail to Europe; by the end of the 18th century, it was just about the largest tobacco port in the United States, an economic powerhouse to which slaves were brought to provide labor and to service the households of the tobacco merchants. Slavery, of course, is as old as humanity. European powers -- first Portugal, followed by Spain, France and Britain -- began abducting men and women from Africa to work as slaves in the New World. To its everlasting shame, Britain, my own country, was responsible for the transport of probably more than a million slaves, many of them to work in the sugar fields of the Caribbean. But at the point when English abolitionists were finally forcing an end to my country's slave trade, America's exploitation of slaves on its soil had not even reached its zenith. The year of Britain's Abolition of the Slave Trade Act -- 1807 -- has a special resonance for me, as it is the very year when Thomas Turner owned those seven slaves. I shudder to realize that just a two-minute walk from my house, a white man named John Beattie conducted a highly successful slave-trade business on what is now O Street, just east of Wisconsin Avenue, that flourished well into the second half of the 19th century. Blacks thus became essential economic tools for the development of Georgetown, but were simultaneously feared and rejected socially. The first Georgetown law to oppress them came as early as 1795, forbidding them to congregate in groups of seven or more. The 1800 Census showed that, in a population of 5,120 in Georgetown, there were already 1,449 slaves and 277 "free blacks." There was a lone exception to the congregating law: Blacks could go to church on the Sabbath. But they were still kept rigidly separate from whites. St. John's Episcopal Church, established in 1816 at 33rd and O streets NW, had an outdoor staircase built especially for blacks; it's still there today. That same year, hardly surprisingly, a handful of free black men managed to start their own tiny church -- which was to become Mount Zion United Methodist Church, one of the churches that remain a potent black force in Georgetown today. It was another half-century, though, before Mount Zion was allowed to have its own black minister. Its burial crypt, still visible at the church's cemetery at 27th and Q streets NW, was reputed to be a hiding place for escaped slaves fleeing to the North via the Underground Railroad. I imagine that at least the girls who formed part of the property of my house in 1807 were still alive when the 1848 "Black Code; Ordinances of the Corporation of Georgetown" was introduced. It is hard to convey the viciousness of the laws, so I will confine myself to just three examples: The code decreed that any black person swimming in the Potomac or Rock Creek at night "shall be publicly whipped"; that any black person who watched a cockfight could be punished with as many as 39 lashes; and that even flying a kite was punishable by whipping. That same year, 77 slaves tried to escape this kind of oppression on a ship called the Pearl; furious owners sent a posse on a steamer called the Salem to recapture them, and it caught up with the Pearl 140 miles downriver. The black flight from Georgetown was already beginning. But blacks were still being bought and sold here as late as November 1861. The next year, President Abraham Lincoln signed a local law that freed slaves eight months before the Emancipation Proclamation. Furious white merchants demanded compensation, and an "expert examiner of slaves" was brought in. After examining their teeth and general health, he assessed the overall value of the slaves of Georgetown, D.C., at $300,000. Georgetown's whites then voted against a Negro Suffrage Bill by 712 to 1, passing a motion describing it as "wholly uncalled for, and an act of grievous oppression." Blacks from the South, anticipating freedom, nonetheless poured into Georgetown. Between 1865 and 1870, its black population increased from 1,935 to 3,271. Over the next two or three decades, a skilled black working class started to emerge alongside a handful of black professionals. But countless laws and regulations that continued well into the 20th century prevented true economic and social emancipation: Only white passengers were allowed to ride on Georgetown's new electric streetcars, for example, enabling them to commute to Washington for well-paying jobs that were effectively denied to blacks. Then came a series of economic blows that began to seal the fate of Georgetown's blacks. The Potomac silted up, virtually ending the industrial effectiveness of Georgetown's harbor. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, which flowed through Georgetown and was crucial to many businesses such as flour and paper mills, flooded disastrously in 1889. Blacks were the first to lose their jobs when countless firms went bust. By 1910, the black population of Georgetown had peaked, and when the Great Depression struck 19 years later, more and more blacks found themselves displaced by whites taking menial jobs. Perversely, FDR's New Deal then began to work against blacks in Georgetown. Thousands of well-paid white government workers poured into Washington, creating further demand for housing and pushing property prices ever higher in Georgetown. "The dispossession of the Negro resident [of Georgetown]," the Conference on Better Housing Among Negroes reported, "is jointly managed by the city's leading realtors and their allied banks and trust companies." Two pieces of legislation passed in the 20th century by none other than Congress itself, though, were the final straws for Georgetown's blacks. The ostensible purpose of the District of Columbia Alley Dwelling Act of 1934 was to get rid of slums; but I suspect that to a House with only one black member and a Senate with none at all, slums and blacks were synonymous. Then, in 1950, Congress passed the Old Georgetown Act "to preserve and protect places of historic interest," but it had the effect of making Georgetown's gentrification legally enforceable. It was pushed through despite fears from "Negro groups," The Washington Post reported at the time, that it "might drive them from the area." Less than a decade later, Georgetown's black population had dwindled to fewer than 3 percent, and in 1972 The Post noted that fewer than 250 remained, "so few that some Georgetown residents are unaware they are there." Blacks were thus becoming invisible by the time the likes of Democratic doyenne Pamela Harriman started creating Georgetown's all-white "social salons" of such ludicrous legend. Indeed, racism was so entrenched in the nation's capital that even the glamorous young Sen. John F. Kennedy voluntarily signed a deed containing a "restrictive covenant" when he bought his house on N Street NW in 1957, agreeing that the home should not "ever be used or occupied or sold, conveyed, leased, rented, or given to Negroes or any person or persons of the Negro race or blood." Which brings us full circle to 2006. My son and I went to Mount Zion church on a recent Sunday morning and met an 84-year-old black parishioner named Carter Bowman, who was born in Georgetown but who long ago moved out. With neat serendipity, we met three generations of Bowmans because his son and grandson, who attends university in England, happened to be visiting. But if you go three generations in the reverse direction, you find that all of Carter Bowman's great-grandparents were born and raised when slavery was at its most intense in Georgetown. For all I know, they could have resided in that crude basement in my house, or someplace like it. Knowing what I know now, I found it strangely moving when the Rev. Robert Slade, chief pastor at Mount Zion -- who doesn't live in Georgetown -- told my son that "when we didn't have anything, the church was our everything. . . . When there was nothing and no place to go, [it] was the one place to go." Slade's words, to us, explain why the emotional bonds to the black churches in Georgetown remain so strong. It took a 16-year-old to bring all these realities of life in Georgetown, past and present, home to me. As a foreigner who remains deeply attached to America, I find it bewildering how so self-reverential a country can proclaim that all men are created equal but then proceed to implement racist oppression that manifestly expresses the reverse. The truth that my son and I discovered is that for many decades, blacks in Georgetown were treated little better than rats. He will never forget that, and neither will I. newstatesman@usa.net Andrew Stephen is the U.S. editor of the New Statesman magazine.
What do you think of the ENTIRE Obama quote IN CONTEXT? Here's how it is: in a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long, and they feel so betrayed by government, and when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn't buy it. But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there's not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
The Nanny -- Nazi -- State Goes a long with Why People Are Scared (The original & my response)? Willys cynical thought for the day; In my web research, Declaration of Independence, etc., I have yet to find where the government says they'll be my freaking mommy! So you goddamn politicians stay the hell out of my life and pockets AZZHOLES! The Nanny State (I got this in a Biker email rag) Worrying about bacteria, New Jersey banned restaurants from serving eggs sunny side up. The ban has since been lifted. Some New Jersey localities have a ban on people pumping their own gasoline. Policemen issue citations for driving without a seatbelt. By law new cars must be equipped with air bags. Federal law mandates that all new toilets flush using a paltry 1.6 gallons of water. Georgia's governor mandates that classical music be given to all new mothers so as to aid infant IQ development. California, and others, has banned smoking in bars. Clinton wants a law passed banning smoking within 100 feet of a federal building. In parts of Ohio, children going trick-or-treating must obtain a special permit. These intrusions and more were recently revealed by television journalist John Stossel on ABC's 20/20. The stated motivation behind this gross intrusion and criminalization of private behavior is to protect us from making unwise choices. John Stossel asked Ricardo Martinez, head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), why can't people at least have air bag on/off switches. Martinez responded by saying that society makes decisions about what benefits most people, and most people benefit from air bags. Stossel interviewed Yale University's Professor Kelley D. Brownell, director of the Center for Eating & Weight Disorders who thinks Americans eat too many hamburgers and French fries. Professor Brownell wants government to tax fatty foods and those with little nutritional content and use the proceeds to subsidize fruits, vegetables and other nutritious foods. He's suggested that some of the tax proceeds be used to build bike and hiking trails. I'm wondering just when Americans are going to decide that we've had enough government meddling in our lives. It is nobody's business whether I eat eggs sunny side up, drive without wearing seat belts, or pig out on hamburgers and French fries. I'd like someone to show me Congress's constitutional authority for government protecting me from making unwise choices. Those who believe government should be in the business of making us take care of ourselves, should tell us where does it all end? Should government decide what time we go to bed? After all sleep is vital to good health. Should government force us to exercise, read wholesome literature, and bathe regularly? The people who advocate a nanny government (a better term is Nazi government) are cowards. You say, "What do you mean, William?" Take Kelley Brownell. If he doesn't want me to eat that Big Mac and French fries, let him walk up to my table and remove them from my plate. He wants no part of doing that because he doesn't want to meet his maker this year so he prefers using the brutal forces of government. "The rest is mine; When I was young, bullies use to pick on me, take food off my lunch tray and otherwise harass me. That's until I followed the advice of my father who told me that if you let a bully get away with one thing, the next day it's going to be something else and the following day something else again. He told me that the bullying won't stop until I decide to stand up and fight. He said that even if I lose the fight, the next time I'm bullied, stand up and fight again. Let the bully know that when he bullies, win, lose or draw, he has a fight on his hands. Eventually he will stop. I think Americans should employ my Dad's advice. As long as we stand as lambs before the slaughter you can bet that there'll be no end to Congress's bureaucratic stooges bullying us. This is still America, last I checked anyway, yes we have 'freedom' here but 'freedom' is, never was and never will be 'Free.' Those of us who like to eat hamburgers and greasy fries must take responsibility by a) walking around with a big butt b) doing exercise or c) (in my case) taking cholesterol lowering pills and *trying* to stay away from the greasy stuff. If we don't want to wear seatbelts, or helmets, WE, not Congress, must pay in pain, time (in hospitals, rehabs w/e), or loss of body parts. I'm firmly convinced I would never have survived, some of, the accidents I was in had I been hog-tied to the seat. The insurance companies, and Medical providers, ALWAYS lobby for these laws but I haven't heard of a single case where after such a law was passed the insurance company says, "Oh with your 20 year perfect driving record (not mine) we've decided that your next ___ year's insurance is on us." Has a hospital ever said, "Now that our ER doctors and nurses won't have to be patching up all the accidents maybe we should offer breast enlargement at half price?" Now stop laughing and reread this paragraph in it, under sarcasm, is the point I'm trying to make. The answer to both is NO! And unless an insurance company or hospital administrator is reading this, and wants to prove me wrong, I don't think it ever will be! The 'it's good for you' doesn't stop at the things listed above. What if a slimy politician took it in his, or her, head that tattooing is wrong? Or certain subjects can't be tattooed on anybody? Like large breasted blondes, skulls, flames, or spider webs? I hope I'm NOT giving them any ideas because I have all these. This can be taken as far as you want to go like; they pass a law that ONLY Army, Marine, Navy, Airforce w/e tattoos are kosher. Or just Democrat or Republican ink is allowed. How about the ONLY lower back, female, tattoo that will be allowed is a 'GodSmack Sun?' Okay tattooists stop salivating imagining how much business you'll get by people running out to get their favorite tattoo done. And remember the upswing will only last until enforcement duties are figured out, i.e., the local Police, County cops, State Police or help us all if the FBI gets the job. Actually help them I don't need any help! And of course that's not the only thing 'good for you.' This has been tried but what if Congress actually passed a law banning Rock & Roll, Country, Blues, Rock-a-Billy or Rap music. Or what if they legislate pianos, Violins and Trumpets are the only acceptable instruments? No electric guitars, fiddles, Blues Harps or Saxophones? And of course subsidizing lessons is another way to do, almost, the same thing! Americans are lucky the founding fathers came from Europe where Religion - a belief in their God - was considered 'good for you' so it was mandated in some places; which is where 'The First Amendment' came from. If European governments had mandated seatbelts on cable cars and horses, and or required at least 4 oz. of meat at dinner -- chicken, beef or fish -- there may have been another Bill of Rights. This one saying, something like, "Congress shall make no law requiring citizens to do anything somebody thinks will be good for them." Unless, of course, any of them made, or sold, seatbelts or had anything to do with producing, or selling, meat. In 1776 that was, almost, everybody. This was long before people either ate meat or were vegetarians. In fact getting enough to eat was more important than the cholesterol!" Now a few quotes; "The career of a politician mainly consists in making one part of the nation do what it does not want to do, in order to please and satisfy the other part of the nation. It is the prolonged sacrifice of the rights of some persons at the bidding and for the satisfaction of other persons. The ruling idea of the politician - stated rather bluntly - is that those who are opposed to him exist for the purpose of being made to serve his ends, if he can get power enough in his hands to force these ends upon them." -- Auberon Herbert "There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him." -- Robert Heinlein "The most basic question is not what is best but who shall decide what is best." -- Thomas Sowell http://www.total-knowledge.com/~willyblues/ From; Willys Jokes archieves

Isn’t speech the very quality that a person has idependant of status and money? In the fusion of democracy and capitalism that currently defines American life, speech is the only freedom left that transcends class, but when you say that money is speech, then you disenfranchize all those without it – surely not an original intent.
The GPA is weighted, I believe. But, only one of the AP classes is factored into his GPA so far--none of the other AP or college classes are as of yet.
