FEMA was conceived under President Jimmy Carter, 30 years ago with a mission statement "A Nation Prepared." To this day FEMA still has the same mission to have America prepared for a disaster. To know how to prevent and how to recover from a disaster.

When any national incident occurs, FEMA overseas the total efforts to help in response, and recovery. March 2003, seen FEMA along with 22 other agencies help form the Development of Homeland Security. With this new department, the national security coordination was better equipped to handle emergencies, both natural and man made.

Since the terrorist attacks of 9/11, FEMA now works with state and local emergency managers, local law enforcement personnel, firefighters, EMT's, and other first responders. FEMA was given billions of dollars by the Federal Government to help all American Communities prepare for the threats from terrorists. Whenever a community or city is prepared for what could happen, then in time of tragedy FEMA can respond to that location to help in every aspect that they can.
